In October my dad and I were at a reunion at an old aunts house, and she gave him a large plastic container labeled with his name. In it was thirty-five Hot Wheel cars, (including the Sweet 16), this set, and misc... guess what we did for the next three hours.
I wish I had these older sets, however, I was born in 2007 and can't find any of the these sets, but I have the modern ones and have a lot of fun with them.
I got this track set for Christmas back in the day. I don't think I ever got a Christmas gift that I had more fun with.. I would love to get another one someday.
This was sooooo cool! I had this as a kid, but I think a couple of pieces were missing so it wasn't quite as elaborate. They should make this today! Soooo cool! :)
+fumedrummer An interesting idea. There is a Japanese Sizzlers track that uses the 6 half curve layout you see in this video. I was going to run that one by itself, but a little North American track competition with a 2-way Super-Charger might be a good idea.
Just so anyone is having trouble with these old boosters OR the new boosters.....a car called NERVE HAMMER works perfectly at FULL speed on the old and new boosters. Also, get yourself the Perfect P-81 light oil and put 1 drop on all 4 axles of all your hot wheels to make them superfast and smooth. My slowest car was actually squealing, then i put oil on it, now it's my second fastest car! Until I oiled everything else of course.
This is the one of the ones I had. So it's called super charger okay looks like this is more for the regular hot wheels cars as opposed to the sizzlers. I get it now. It's been awhile. Very helpful thanks for doing these!
I collected every Sizzler car and set thats out there ..Even the European one's also . Maybe I got too many Sizzlers ...Something been telling me It's time I tinned out my collection.. I'm getting old here. lol
Is there a way to prevent rubbing paint off the car's? I have some and I play with the kids but there is barely paint left. I only have one left with lots of paint.
+austin weber I've been using automotive pin striping to protect my cars from having their hoods scratched by the automatic lap counters and their roofs scuffed up by Rod Runners. But, in spite of your efforts, all you need is one really good crash to take a big chip off the paint. So, my redlines sit more than they run these days.
PLEASE HELP...I just bought this same setup off Ebay. It was very dirty so i washed everything in some kind of gentle-hands dish soap we have in our kitchen. Now all the track and turns are now lackluster, and not very slippery at all. When a car goes into a turn it slows down a lot. I can't even get 1 car to go around and even shorter loop with just a 180 turn and a 90. Do I need to wipe down all the track and turns with silicone spray or something to make it slippery again ? The superchargers work with D-cell batteries, i plan on installing 3v power supplies so i can eliminate the batteries. Is there anyway to adjust the supercharger foam wheels? It seems to only work half-way decent with a few cars like a C6 Corvette.
Good questions. The track itself does not need to be slippery. It just needs to be clean. And it sounds like you have already done that. For the Super-Chargers to work well you may need to clean the battery terminals with sandpaper to remove corrosion build up. That way electricity will flow more easily from the batteries and the foam wheels will spin faster. You cannot adjust the foam wheels. Your main difficulty is probably with the cars themselves. My video looks smooth because I had 2 cars that work well. During testing, most of my cars (both redline and newer) could not run the length of the track. You may have to keep experimenting with different cars. I have always found that I have more success with Mustangs (for some reason) on Super-Charger tracks than any other car model. In particular, the recent Faster Than Ever series of cars seem to run well. Good luck!
Great. I did find a great way to make the track fast again. Rubbing wax paper on it! The hard plastic turns are much faster, and no more cars flinging off. I think the friction was so high after washing, that the wheels would actually grip the track and jump the curb. Now being much slipperier, they stay on the track more and slide a little if they hit the curb. I also just experimented with a loop immediately after the booster and then 2 feet downstream. Failure. What DOES work on a consistent basis, is putting the booster up to full speed, and inclining up at about 20 -30 degrees or even steeper and then leveling off at 20 inches elevation. Just about every car I tested worked great. This way I can use gradual declines and more curves to make a longer track and let gravity do all the work. Can't wait to try out a whole bunch of new layouts.....Now i just need to find a bunch of cardboard boxes/stands to elevate the track that high. My 2 young boys are going to lose their mind.
+bttfdmc1984 Yes! The swing arm on the automatic lap counter would strike the car on every lap. I actually ran five 100 lap races before settling on the one you see in this video. The blue pin strip had a visible rub scar on it when I was done. I took the worn blue pin strip off and put on a new one for the still shots that you see. And I ran the Six Shooter with a clear protective cover on the window canopy as well. The Six Shooter did great and the Mustang, which had no protection, also did well.
+bttfdmc1984 In fact, I had a lot of trouble finding a new car that could run 100 laps on this track. It turns out that the redline metal on metal design gives the necessary weight to stay on the track and the redline axles give the speed to go around the course. Most of my new FTE cars flew off the curves because they were too light. For some reason the 2010 Ford Mustang GT FTE stayed on the track and ran lap after lap.
The new Classic 50th anniversary Cars (The 5 set of the Mustang, Camaro, Cougar, and Barracuda) could probably do the track pretty good. They roll really good, and are metal on metal. Not to mention they are based of redlines lol
+Burnout VW There is only 1 country in the world that blocks some of my videos...and that is Germany. Apparently the musical unions in Germany refuse to allow videos that use copyrighted music. You can still see this video on my other UA-cam site "Smackeral Cafe Unplugged". Those videos have no copyrighted music.
Yeah, me too, thinking we had no alkaline batteries then those booster stations used up new regular batteries in like 5 hours of use. Must be great with alkalines.
+Norma Zapata Back in 1969 Mattel released a group of cars under the Grand Prix banner. A lot of Super-Charger Grand Prix Race Sets came with these cars from the factory. Vehicles like the McLaren M6A, Chaparral 2G, Lola GT70 and Ford Mark IV. Sorry that my 2 video cars are not Grand Prix style vehicles...they just worked really well so I used them.
The beauty of the adjustable power setting is you can keep the race close. Also, if you use too much power the car will wipe out. It's a fine line between fast and crashing. That what makes the original Super-Chargers fun.

Beautiful layout!
+RaceGrooves Thanks. It's a straight forward layout but getting out all the track, setting it in place and putting it together took me nearly an hour.
+ racegrooves are you this guys mentor?
+Dionte Bryant We have mutual respect for each other.
RaceGrooves thanks for telling me I can see you commenting every time this guy makes videos like these.
Oh the memories! Watching this with my 7 year old son and showing him how we had all the good toys!

Damn ! Nice!

Now this is a huge set and it takes a lot of space. Good you have all the space you need :)
Awesome! They run smoothly over and over again in this track...
I got this for Christmas back then. It took up my entire bedroom floor
Nice set ! Nice to see a good ol Red Line in action… and to see it WIN the race 🏆 very nice 👍
Love this track set, the older ones are by far better track cars
Agree. Those older tracks also look way more durable compared to today's.
I got this track set for Christmas back in the day. I don't think I ever got a Christmas gift that I had more fun with.. I would love to get another one someday.
+mrrpepsi24 Glad to bring back good memories.
Very good. How long have you been collecting track sets ?
mrrpepsi24 Since I was 9 years old. But more so in the past 5 years.
I wanted this so badly for Christmas, but my parents said “too expensive” 😢
I also wanted to add that we had the same blue carpeting too, back in the day…interesting that I caught that too !
that is a Great Play set , Thanks for the Video
Without love...where would we be now? Awesome old school track! I have The Roadrunner set.
Fantastic video, a pleasure to watch as usual, thank you ;-)
Fantastic. Great memories.
I had one these in the 1970s as a grade school kid(born in 1969 myself)
Wow crazy track my friend 👍
Peace ✌️

Hi there, can you give me an idea of the dimensions of this layout? Doing a little space planning here....
awesome set up!
Totally awesome 👏
Ever consider pulling out one of the superchargers and replacing it with track and running a Sizzlers vs. regular car?
+fumedrummer An interesting idea. There is a Japanese Sizzlers track that uses the 6 half curve layout you see in this video. I was going to run that one by itself, but a little North American track competition with a 2-way Super-Charger might be a good idea.

Does this damage the cars? just wondering because i want to test my old Hot wheels on a track, but i don't want to damage them./ nice track btw :)
Running any Hot Wheels car on any track runs the risk of causing damage. However, I find with careful handling the cars do quite well.
Thanks :)
You do not want to use the Super-Charger on "Open Wheel Cars" ..it bends the axles. I learned this in 1969
I don’t recommend Twin mill for the boosters that go from the top. I bent the axel really bad on one.
the number eight super charge grand pix racetrack!

did you add the blue tape to the six shooter to protect the paint?

How much was this set in 1969?
I'm not sure but if you search the internet for Hot Wheels in the Sears Christmas catalogue from 1969 that should give you an answer.
Actually, I just saw an old add for sale on eBay. The Grand Prix Race Set sold for $19.75 back in 1969.

If the super chargers are set arbitrarily, how is this a legitimate race?
The beauty of the adjustable power setting is you can keep the race close. Also, if you use too much power the car will wipe out. It's a fine line between fast and crashing. That what makes the original Super-Chargers fun.
