As a child back in the late 60's to early 70's, I used to hate my Spoil Sport. All of the other cars passed by it every time. But this is what being slow taught me! Everyone else is in a big hurry to get ABSOLUTELY nowhere, but like my father used to say before he died when I was 19 in 1980, just take your time and smell the roses! In other words, don't rush. Life is short. Enjoy your life. Memories of youth will keep you young at heart as you age! Many I've known are gone. My parents and brother, friends; gone. I'm still taking my time at 60. I've learned that even with patience, you can still come out a winner!!!
Absolutely AWESOME 👍 We had this + many cars in the 70's 🙂 It would be amazing to see a fully functioning and in excellent condition set like that once more ❤❤
My dad won me a sizzler set when they first appeared in the UK. Mattel held a competition to win a set for the person who could find the most words from “Hot Wheels Sizzlers”. My dad was a school teacher with a list of degrees the length of your arm in chemistry, Maths and was generally an all round smart arse. We had a library, with over 40 different dictionaries, including the Oxford English Dictionary which is 20 Volumes! He made some ridiculous number of words and I was declared the winner! I can just imagine some kid entering with 50 words thinking they were going to win and then my dad with a PhD and a library of dictionaries, blows them out the water with over 800 words! As an adult now, I would want that kid (me) disqualified, but as a kid it ranked amongst his homemade fireworks and lemonade, as something my dad could do! This circuit with early 1970s battery technology is outstanding.

My brothers had Sizzlers in 1973 but I never played with them, I was 10 and had trains. My dad was a truck driver in NYC. One day he came home with a bag of plastic matchbox size cars that were 2nds off a production line. I had about 25 police cars, 25 fire trucks, and 25 silver box trucks; I think I had a few ambulances or some other type, but I clearly remember the other three. They were well made and fairly detailed. That was the extent of "Romskyville": no crime, fires put out quickly, and a heavy police force/local delivery economy [laugh]. I would give out tickets to the firemen for going too fast - imagination. Every now and then a box truck would get stuck on the train tracks.... smash! And the truck goes flying. I wish I had a Sizzlers set now. I would make a lap counter/speed detector using RF ID for car detectors and IR LED/phototransistor pairs for speed detection. This way, as soon as a car is going too slow, it ejects the car. My youngest brother loved playing with hotwheels and matchbox. He would play out conversations with the drivers of each car... but everyone was named Joe!

My set had haybales and flags you would attach to the sides of the track to slow the cars down. You also got devices to push your car away from the rail to avoid them, or to direct an opponents car towrad them.
nice but i think the lane 2 counter is broken at 1;32 it shows them at 1 1 1 1 then at 1:36 the counter reads 2 1 2 2 then at 1:37 it reads 2 3 2 2 some how lane 2 jumps from lap 1 to lap 3 in less then 1 second. i can't tell if it double jumped or some thing hit it twice to throw off the laps
Very good eyes. You are the first person to comment on the vagaries of this type of mechanical lap counter. If cars go through too slow the lap will sometimes not get counted and on occasion a double count will occur for no apparent reason. It's not broken, that's just the way the mechanism works. When I had one of these as a kid, we didn't care. It just made for more interesting races.
yeah when i was watching it it just caught my eye with the jump in the lap count i thought i was seeing things and was watching it as the laps kept going to see if it would jump from 1 to 3 again but just the one time. I guess it wouldn't have really mattered since at some point the cars would all be a tad off with the pit stops.
Omg I want my childhood back, I had this exact track. Damn, my parents threw it away when I grew up, without telling me. They should have prosecute them for crime against game collectors. This was the best toy I ever had (except my Atari 2600 but that’s a videogame).

There are three different types of antenna mounts that come with the lap computer. So even Hot Wheels Sizzlers cars have variability on which mount works. So for Playing Mantis Sizzler cars (which I have never got my hands on personally), it's possible one of the 3 types will work but I don't know.

it honestly amazes me that with compact electronics and smaller batteries than ever, mattel isn't taking advantage of things like this to bring back small self powered hotwheels, I quite often come across 1:64 or 1:76 scale RC cars, so I'm sure a simple motorized car would be easier than that.
Ok.. You said 14 feet that's 2 ft sections right? So 7 pieces of straight track. You said 4 180 degree curves plus 2 curve center pieces? So actually 6 center pieces?
Correct. The original Super Circuit Race Set had 6 center pieces. Check the contents list on the back of the box at 14:15. My track for this video is a modification of the original set up. I only use 4 center pieces.

All 4 cars have had some type of modification including new NiMH batteries, new wheels, new motors, new chassis and new body paint. Most of this I purchased from Sizzlers-shop.com. For the paint, I went to a local hobby shop and they recommended spray paint formulated for plastic. I stripped off the old paint (used Easy Oven cleaner), applied the new paint and then I sprayed on some clear coat to reduce wear on the new paint.
