Gio, I have checked out almost all of the vloggers in the Philippines and I think you are the best. Very clear. Well edited and your information is great. I just joined your patreon.
Excellent video - I do like Dumaguete for the reason some people doesn't like it: foreigners and the amenities that go with a big expat presence; I made heaps of fiends during my last visit and planning to meet more people ; you cannot have enough friends 😁
I spent several nights at North Point when I was there in March. Awesome restaurants, great live music, great view of the ocean. The ambiance was amazing and very relaxing. Definitely my favorite part of town. I will be in the Philippines in two weeks for 3 to 4 weeks. I will land in Manila and stay there for at least a few days. Hopefully, I can make it back to Dumaguete. I was there for two weeks and loved every minute of it. The Sunday market in Valencia was also nice. Forest Camp in Valencia was a cool place to stay. I also spent a weekend in Siquijor. So, what Gio said about Dumaguete being a great central location is on point!
For me, temperature and humidity would play a major role too. I've found an hidden gem with very low prices, fresh climate, almost zero expats. What I don't like about Dumaguete: 1) Brownouts and bad internet. I work online, I couldn't afford that. 2) Too many expats. 3) A *LOT* of "professional" Filipinas who live by scamming those 70 old expats while also video-scamming 6-7 other "LDR" expats at the same time. 4) You being a foreigner does not really give Filipinas that "exotic" vibe any more. 5) Prices are not the best.
My cousin works as freelance programmer/web developer working for foreign companies and living 2 hours away from Dumaguete. He is paying premium for his internet otherwise he can't do the job.
Thank you for your video, Gio. I was in Dumaguete for the month of January this year, 2024. I stayed in a small hotel about a half mile south of the point where you stopped walking south on the beach-front boulevard. I would walk the half mile north virtually every day to the North Point commercial complex and get coffee and or a meal there. There's a nice little coffee shop that converts into a bar at night there owned by a friendly German guy. I got to know one of the baristas at the coffee shop, her name was "Menche." I'm sorry I never got to say goodbye to her before I had to get up to Manila to get my flight back to the States. If you happen to see her would you please tell her that "Tom" from the States says "hello." Thanks. The coffee shop is called "Break Time"; it appears at 11:07 in your video.
Love your channel and info. I'm most likely going to end up in the Philippines. Dumaguete is probably my 1st choice, this north point area seems awesome. Looks like it has everything, I would definitely need good internet and ease of getting around. Would love to run into you someday and get the whole scoop. Thanks for what you do
Gio another GREAT video! Thank you for the excellent tour and description of the North Point area. I had no idea that this was a part of Dumaguette! Last year I went to Duma for only 1 week and just saw the downtown area:(
Hi Gio, So, do you think you think you began to appreciate Dumaguete more because Maya and her family made you feel more at home there than anywhere else? And one more thing, do you think that expats like it more there than urban cities like Cebu and Davao because despite being a smaller town, it still has relatively good medical hospitals in comparison to anywhere else?
I've been thinking in trying Darwin. What do you think about it? I was told the ocean in the North is not as clean as in the South, as currents take the port's trash there. Are there any beaches nearby?
Dumaguete brownouts are one of the issues. Here in Davao good water supply and no brownouts. Expats living here are spread out. I see only a few. It is cheaper living here in Davao.
Thanks for making. We would-be expats would get more knowledge of Dumaguette from your videos if you turned the camera forward so we could see the roads and start building a mental map of the roads and the lay of the land. (Even better would be a 'geo tracker' in the corner of the video where we could see on a roadmap where you are going. After a handful of those, and we could show up in Dumaguette and get around town like a native :)
Lived in Dumagete for 10 months. Out of 10 give it a 7. Sidewalks not good, I am not so anti-expat as some so no problem but noticed most I said hello to just kept on walking. Not friendly. Many brownouts. You say Lee plaza is closing, why? I shop there alot. Nice video.

Lets get real. The only reason Gio is in Duma is because of Maya. Thats it. He used to say he loved Davao and liked that place the best. Duma boardwalk smells like sewerage, not many bars/restos, prices all jacked up because of the amount of ex pats there, no beach. Duma sucks ass
Incorrect. Maya of course is the main reason but what I said about location is very true. If I was a single guy would I live in Duma - no. But don't assume, thanks for the comment.

There was a Bob Marley - One Love , Jamaican restaurant in Dumaguete.
You had me interested in the Henry Hotel. Then I checked the prices. It just seems like prices are expensive for being the Philippines
Are you sure that the henry resort is just 5K pesos? I checked a couple of random dates in january february and march and the price is $133-160/nt the cheapest available rate
Well, it will depend on the month and day of the week.
Shaka has good food and really good live music
How hot does it get there
Do they have a S&R there
I am 70 where would be best for me to live
@@wilberneubanks1581 most of the time it's hot and humid. Mid to upper 90sF or about 30+C. But last couple of weeks I think it's been pleasant but I live way south of dumaguete
@@wilberneubanks1581 what are you looking for? Chill with some people and things to do or people all around and always something going on
all good
I don't like big cities, so places like Manila and Cebu would be out for me.
Lapu Lapu has one the best dental on our planet earth. Green Apple; is also at Ayala lower inner court.
I missed my flight, canceled from bad weather and then I got really sick, in and out of the hospital.
God willing, I’ll make it there someday.
Okay, nice.
Do you know places in the Philippines where there are no or few dogs? Because I really don´t like dogs.
10:40 she better use an umbrella, haha
There are some cities that are much stricter on animal control, one of those being Davao and iloilo.
I like cooler Marpas with swimming pool.
I like walk and talk videos
Hey Gio, I just got into Dumaguete on Friday. I'm staying at Florentina Homes Hotel and I was at North Point on Saturday night and it was great.
Walk and talk isnt the easiest form of vlogging. RIP Chris in Cebu's channel.
The one downside to dumaguette is the extra travel time involved if you like to travel internationally
Very true
over-rated or under-rated?
The best dental is Green Apple at Lapu Lapu & Ayala
Lets get real. The only reason Gio is in Duma is because of Maya. Thats it. He used to say he loved Davao and liked that place the best. Duma boardwalk smells like sewerage, not many bars/restos, prices all jacked up because of the amount of ex pats there, no beach. Duma sucks ass
Incorrect. Maya of course is the main reason but what I said about location is very true. If I was a single guy would I live in Duma - no. But don't assume, thanks for the comment.
I watched critter hunter yes Mr Big guy. If it wasn't for his kind charitable nature, that place is full of trash.
I enjoyed your content!
Hi
what doesn't foreigners want to be around other foreigners?
Prices go up, and panties come down. 😂😂😂
There you go Enzo lol
Gio....I Think personally u need to cool it with the cover shots of all the AI girls. How does Maya feel about u doing that? (Maybe shes ok with it?)...otherwise good info...
She doesn't mind, thank you for the comment.
@bhinbayoucity If not minding your own business was a person.
White ppl always getting offended on someone else’s behalf, that’s where the term white knight came from 😂
You sound like the jealous type the girls are AI
Nice video... I was wondering more about places to avoid? In one of your video, where you were answering viewers questions, there was one are mentioned to avoid (Mafia or something). Could you maybe specify more precisely which areas Expats/Foreigners should avoid? Its not that I plan to travel whole Philipines, but knowing which areas are problematic, might be little help, when using online service like Christian Filipina, where girls are from all around the place...
