Key word is Bisaya. From Mindanao, I believe it's pretty much what you described. It's also a language they speak. As for the kidnapped: that dude really pissed off the wrong people. I believe it's even been declassified as a kidnapping. That town looks to be about two hours from Zamboanga. He had gotten several specific warnings that this would happen and he ignored them.I feel very sorry for him, but don't know if they have plans to return him.

My ex-girlfriend and her family were born and raised in Mindanao and all those people were absolutely beautiful people. I've been to Davao, Samal Island and General Santos (a couple days) and did not feel in danger at all. My girlfriend is from T'Boli, south of GenSan. I will probably go there some day for a few days. Zamboanga, Sulu, Marawi - no way. I won't even visit for a day. I will not put my life at risk.
I just googled Marawi and it's officially called the Islamic City of Marawi...an islamic city in a Christian country. Crazy. Guess they just want to keep some sort of semblance of peace.
I'll be going to that area next year with my Filipina to meet her parents. I was in Davao/Tagum w/o any concerns w/ my Filipina. Solo, yeah, I could see maybe not going to those areas. This is no different then telling foreigners not to visit certain areas of Detroit, Baltimore, and so on.
Why take the risk when there are beautiful women all over the Philippines? For me, some of the most beautiful women are working in the market, working at the coffee shop, working at the gym. Yeah, I think the island is getting a bad wrap I have been really looking at retiring in Cebu, and Davao and have only read good things about both city. No place is ever fully safe people just need common sense and the chances of something bad happening drop 90%.

They are financially independent, no baggage or financial burdened from the family they are middle and upper class of the society. I’ve been to Butuan city and as far as CDO but that’s as far as I will travel, but i am aiming to settle in Cebu, so I understand about not traveling to the most southwest of the Philippines. My ex is from Camiquin island, I’ve taken the ferry from CDO to the island a few times and I’ve never had any issues plus there are so many checkpoints in CDO once you head to the ferry.
I think that a lot of guys who say women in the Philippines are better looking are comparing the women around their own age that they might have a chance with in their own country to someone 30 years their junior in the Philippines that they could have a chance with. I've been back in the Vancouver BC area (Surrey to be specific) for almost 6 months and my wife and I have spent a lot of time on public transit such as busses, and the Skytrain, and I'll tell you women here age for age are just as beautiful as anywhere in the Philippines. Having said that if I'd look around the bus or Skytrain I was the only caucasian 95 percent of the time.

I was picking up the remote to leave the video, then you hit on southern Mindanao and Zamboanga 😂 had to watch the rest because I said the same thing back in 2009 while discussing my taste w/ a girl from Paranaque. Darn, those state department maps are visually difficult to follow, squiggly lines over terrain and rivers. They would serve us well if the state department would use color shades rather than lines to define areas of concern. I have been to the Philippines many times ,I have good friends in Mindano ( Tampakan) 2015 it was different then it is today, I just came back 4 weeks ago stayed a few days with friends spent a week in Gensen, Talking to many people they all said the same thing, things are safe but not as safe as it was when the past government was in power , I traveled from Gensen to south Cotabato with no troubles, You must be a wear of your surroundings but that goes for any country, As for the beautiful women yes they are all around the Philippines, But they have become to Americanized and don't take care of their bodies after having a child , not like other Asian countries , take China for example 6 months after having a baby you would never know if she had had a baby, also in Singapore they care about personal appearance,

I think it's safe to visit, but living there is a different story.
I visited there for three days and felt safe. I stayed in the nicest hotel in town. Everyone was very nice.
