Had the Honor to see Mr. Hiatt in my city 2 years ago (Northern Alberta). I'll never forget the show. What a singer/songwriter. One of the best! And he did Smash a Perfectly Good Guitar (figuratively speaking).
Drum Guy; Lindsay here, this guy is awesome, band is excellent👍👏👏...I have couple more videos you might not have seen, don’t see them listed on your channel.
Thanks mydrumkitrocks for sharing this HOT One with the Fans Hopefully you can Upload more of this Concert!? :-) Its Superb! GOT SLIDE Musicgrtz ~Will from The Netherlands PS: Hope to see Sonny again during his second European Tour in NOv. 2009!
Smokin' version! Thanks. Just had the pleasure of seeing John perform with Lyle Lovett: a great buddy act. They clearly delighted in being on stage with each other.
I am a huge Mark Knopfler fan, so much so that I dismiss every other guitarist against Mark's fingerpicking. But its in Mark's 'Gravy train' and ' Cannibals' that I got to hear Sonny Landreth for the first time. Sonny just blew me away with his unique slide guitar playing with his two fingers prominently sticking through his long hair! :) Great video! Thank you for this upload.
Hiatt and the Goners played at 2023 New Orleans Jazzfest on Saturday, May 6 at the Fais Do Do stage. It was one of the best sets of a great Jazzfest. Everyone was in top form - and a little older, a lot wiser and still funky. Sonny's technique is still inpeccable. His band closed Jazzfest for me at Rock and Bowl Sunday night with another great set.
Yeah Good Old "The Goners Time"! John with our Slide Master Sonny and Dave Ranson and Kenneth Blevins Check UA-cam "Sonny Landreth Specials channel :- ) GOT SLIDE ~William
Lena Kristin Jönsson, if you've got an issue with Sonnys' loud guitar playing, take it up with JH who definitely gave Sonny permission and encouragement to do so! Besides, the song lyrics are about escaping from Nashville's overly sterile, over-polished, pop-music production values in favor of gettin' "good and greasy", turnin' the telecaster/ vibrolux up to ten!! Ive actually seen John play live dozens of times over the years, both solo and with various band members. Have you?
Forget the mousse and the hairspray we don't need none of that, a little dab will do ya beneath a pork pie hat". Love it !!
"We're gonna get you to Memphis; Sonny's drivin'". - Sure 'nough.
It shakes, rambles but its tigt and full of plessure. Wow
Sonny Landreth Louisana's favorite son...when you see him live you almost I swear forget to breathe...
He's actually our favorite "Native Stepson" - born in Canton, Ms.
F'ing cold chills... John Hiatt is an American Treasure... Why is he not in the R&R HOF!!!???
Because they don't have a clue.
Sonny kicks ass.
What a Fantastic combo , Sonny & John 🎸😎👍✌️
Memphis in the meantime- John Hiaitt. Little Feet. Dixie Chicken. Two southern songs I just love.
One of the baddest Cats to come to Nashville.. 50 years of great tunes John..Thanks man
The way Sonny nails all of Ry Cooder's licks for this song, and adds so much of his own as well is truly staggering.
Where's nick
John Hiatts is a true America songwriter
Sounds like the real deal to me. Reminds me of my last road trip south with my girl. Good times😎 Thanks John!!!
Sonny Landreth is a wizzard. A true wizzard. Saw him once in the 90s when he supported Willy de Ville and I couldn't believe what I saw and heard
Always liked this song because it was just fun listening. John H i a t t. Is he still? I see he is.
Yes John Hiatt is still writing among the best songs today.
South of I-10 is one of my faves of Sonny's. Mark Knopfler also plays on it...sweet!!

the slide sounds freakn amazing I want to go to memphis
Kick butt version!!! I love John and Sonny but Dave and Kenny just blow me away too. Saw them in around 2002 or so. I hope I have another chance.
John's voice is in top form on this one & Sonny's slide guitar playing is the stuff of legend - he really tears it up on this jam.
From the tip of my tongue
to the absolute END of the line!
Righteously good 'n greazy
The video was shot in 2003 in Chicago.
Sonny Landreth rules!
Drum Guy; Lindsay here, this guy is awesome, band is excellent👍👏👏...I have couple more videos you might not have seen, don’t see them listed on your channel.
Best version, in my opinion. Just killer.
While I love the studio version, where Ry Cooder just GOES - I am a huge fan of Sonny and he definitely makes this rock and roll.

Kenneth Blevins. Awesome drummer who has worked with Hiatt for decades.

The Electric Guitar is too loud and takes all the attention away from John Hiatt !! 😒
