I've lived with back pain since my 20s when I slipped and fell in my bathtub. Now in my 50s. Can't count how many times my back has gone out from lifting something heavy to something as simple as sitting in my chair. I have been laid up in bed for weeks unable to move, to having to use canes to walk. I found this channel after my most recent back pain. That was 3 weeks ago. I have found the information in these videos extremely helpful in getting my back back up and better. Thank you Bob & Brad.

What symptoms did you have in the beginning was your lower back feeling tight around the pelvis and did you get any spasms?

This just happened to me. I was cleaning the kitchen and my back went out. I had to lay over the island, and then hunch up the stairs to lay down to ice it. Needless to say, That is why I am here now.

I have a similar job where I'm sitting all the time. We need to get up and walk. I feel much better when I'm walking so I make sure to walk even if it's just to the bathroom every hour. If I don't do this, my back freezes up and will go out. I have arthritis. Hopefully your job allows you to do this. Humans weren't meant to be sitting or stuck in one position for long periods of time. It's too bad modern life doesn't let us move the way were supposed to be!

Your assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much ❤

If you guys still have your backs go out, what hope is there? : ) Seriously, this concise summary of information on warning signs and pre-emptive things to do is really helpful. I've jotted them down on a card to help improve my back habits. Also, for me now at day five after my worst sudden back strain, it is helpful even just hearing you say that just about everybody has his or her back go out now and then, and recovers. Encouraging. Thanks. Long time fan, first time commenter. Subscribed.

I’ve been straining/spraining (don’t know the difference) my low back for 15+ years. I probably have “crippled” myself about 7-8 times, I’m only 43. My most recent and worst one was last week where I had to use a cane to get to the car for a ride to urgent care for meds. Now I’ve always heard to ice it but I’ve always heated mine because it felt so tight. Heat always loosens me up and I can eventually stretch and crack my back. I tried ice one time and it got so tight I couldn’t move at all and was screaming in pain. I will never ice it again. I’ve never been stuck in bed more than 3 days until this last one which was 4 days. Now, I’m not 100% but I’m moving fine after 5 days. I always get prescribed muscle relaxers, naproxen and Tramadol. I only take the relaxers and Tramadol for 3 days usually.

Thanks for this vid will def look out for signs. I'm a surfer and I do those push ups movements regularly.. back is ok after surf sessions but neck and shoulder would hurt from it. Then one day did a deadlift and then free hanging and cleaned the house bending over and ohhh my lord Jesus Christ.. that hunch rounded over posture did it.. felt like someone shot me in the back. Was on the ground for 3 hrs couldn't move or walk. The worst pain of my life.

The motto I live by is “Movement is life!” But since I started a medication for Graves’ disease (hyper thyroid) one of the side effects is weight gain. It’s one thing if someone gains 20 lbs in a year but I’ve gained 55 lbs in less than 6 months and my body just can’t handle it! My endocrinologist says there’s nothing that can be done but I refuse to accept that! I used to love walking, I even worked my way up to jogging, but now just a few steps makes my entire body tighten up, including my lower back. If I can’t exercise I for sure won’t have a chance at losing this weight!! Would you have any ideas on what I can do to release the tightness my lower back and entire body feel?

  • @MammaCass

this is exactly where I'm at right now as I've said before I've got numerous medical issues and I'm well aware my posture is awful, spending all day immobile I spend a lot of time on my phone/tablet and this seems to be what makes mine and many people's posture so terrible these days. after seeing my physiotherapist I see how bad it is and even watch my kids as they sit the same staring at their phones! I'm on many pain relievers and nerve pain suppressors, I'm not allowed anti inflammatory meds unfortunately. you guys talk a lot of sense thanks for all your efforts x

I run equipment for a living I am writing a message on my windshield in my truck and machine to do a stretch and sit up straight as a reminder so I don't forget and start slouching again. I get working and focus on that and forget how I'm sitting a lot. Bouncing up and down on that seat in my truck or equipment hasn't been good for my back over the last decade.

You may have sciatica or inflammation. Both of which can be helped by anti-inflammatory meds. But I'm not a doctor. Just a patient with experience. If it persists and you're in pain, you should see a doctor and a physical therapist.

Anti inflammatories and ice, then leave things ready for the next day, cause you won't be able to walk, crawling on hands and knees is least painful . Stay in bed for 2 days then start the physio. Start trying too stand and walk on day 3 for 10mins every 2hrs,walk,bed,walk,bed. On day 4 walk around the house for half an hour every 2 hrs then bed, avoid sitting. Day5 you should be walking without much discomfort, but it will take a another 7 to 10 days for the strength and stability to build in your back. This works for me, I've torn the same little muscle 8 times over 25yrs mostly on a half bent over rotational movement.

I went to a PT and she had me push weights lying down on a machine. I am a pro portrait painter, so instead of standing for hours with my arms out, I sat on a chair...was bent over my palette. I now can't walk too well for a few days. Very Painful. I need to paint as its what i do, but I'm in constant pain and numbness goes from piriformis to ankle! what do you recommend??? I have the same problem sometimes where as walking doesn't help a sore back no matter how slow or paying attention to correct gait. I don't know what the answer is as it could be a combination of things such as tight hips, legs or other muscles in the chain causing or in conjunction with a herniated disc etc. I would quit walking and concentrate on stretches, correct movements and sleeping posture outlined in other vids to get to a point where later walking would be more of a physical maintenance thing.

After experiencing the first severe issue with my back (at 54 I can't complain but never want to experience again) I went in search of information & stumbled upon your video. THANK YOU for the bits of information that's fun to watch too! Will be checking out the other informative videos to learn more from you two. Also, spied Gumby on the skeletons shoulder...made me giggle :)

Dream Big89 I can walk, slowly, but have to be so so careful, and look out for signs of cauda equina. However, I can’t sit at all! Too painful. MRI shows I tore L5/S1. Made it worse than it was already. 😫

Dream Big89 Yes, several herniated discs, stenosis and facet joint arthritis. The disc pressing on the stenosis is causing foot drop, and the crowded nerve roots are causing pain when I sit. I would love Bob and Brad to find me some exercises that aren’t going to make me worse!

I had a L4-L5 and L5-S1 herniation with severe nerve compression due to heavy dead lifting. I was in pain for a month but could walk from day 1. After the pain ended I had feet tingling and numbness for a full year. Luckily no surgery needed and now I am symptom free.Walking 1 hour daily and doing back stretches daily helped. Get well soon.

Preach Bob preach 5:51! Great detailed vidéo. By the way, how can someone that's cursed with a nearly absent lumbar curve sit? Today I tried sitting up straight in class and had a tight lower back all day. My body tends to forward flex to decrease pain even though that's not advised.

I've been doing yoga more regularly now, but the thing is I'm not very active. I think when I went into plank then into cobra and then into a downward facing dog I went too fast. I also have been a tech (web design) student for quite some time, you sit a lot in front of a computer, I've been telling myself to adjust my posture but now I'm just laying here watching videos on how to fix this...

Nice vid. I am a 46 yr old male. I had a herniated disc with severe nerve compression because of dead lift. Due to this I had 1 month of back pain and spasms followed by 1 year of feet tingling and numbness. Then I was symptom free for 3 months. Just the other day I blew my back doing a light goblet squat. Again 3 weeks of pain and then feet tingling. Why does foot tingling start only after the pain has ended? Should I stop working out my lower body for good?

I threw my back out once and I tried sitting on the edge of a bed and slowly lowering my self down using core muscles untill I felt a pop in lower back, instant relief,
what do you think happened there? Self chiro adjustment?

    • @thedude8526
      @thedude8526 3 роки тому

Likely. Ive had that happen to me multiple times. Sometimes if I lay flat in my back or on my stomach it'll crack and get I instant relief during a spasm. Its likely that you had some nerve impingement and the crack adjusted the vertebrae away from the nerve.
