    • @thismessismine
      @thismessismine 2 роки тому +76

      If you don't know what you're doing and want to make your song sound a little better, grab some good quality headphones and try a few of these tips. Use a noise reduction tool on every track after you record it (it might be called noise gate, noise reduction tool, or something else depending on what program you use). For some of these you just select your track or tracks (so all of your instruments and/or vocals) and basically just apply a preset with one click, hit OK, and boom! Way less noise. Or you can Google how your particular noise reduction tool works, since each program is a bit different. But this will help to remove noise from your environment on the track. You may not notice it while recording, but even seemingly-quiet noises like a car driving a block away or an air conditioner in another room can create a LOT of noticeable noise on your track, so definitely check these tools out. Then I'd recommend using some preset settings you see in your program. In the place you apply effects or "plugins," you'll usually see some preset options for vocals, rock guitar, or for whatever other purpose. These are a good starting point--apply a vocal one to your vocals and see if you like the sound. Compare the sound before and after in different parts, with and without the effect (apply the effect, listen, undo, listen again OR use a "compare tool" if your program has it to quickly compare the previous version of a track with the effects version). Just try different ones until you like something. And don't be afraid to move the dials that pop up and listen to the difference. What happens if I put the dial for this effect's setting all the way to the lowest? What about highest? In the middle? Doing that helps you to learn and HEAR what each thing in your program does. In this way, you can learn about these settings while still using presets and their default options sometimes to make it easy and save time! :) As you learn, you might find that you have preferences for how to adjust these dials for different effects. The key is just starting with built in options and listening to compare different sounds until you're like "ohhh I see what this one does, and I like it at 30% for my guitar for this song!" Also, lear how to pay attention to levels (green/yellow/red bar that moves on a track you're recording or about to record). Nice-sounding tracks will have a green level, but a higher green level, that may go yellow at times but never goes red. A quick rule of thumb is to get the level for each track as high as you can without ever letting it go red (aka "clipping") and then reduce the noise after you do that. Whatever you do, use good quality headphones to experiment because it'll help you hear the difference between different sounds/settings. I would look up headphones for this purpose because you don't want mega-bassy headphones, you want relatively "flat" ones so you get a decent idea of what your track sounds like at baseline. Those tips and UA-cam will get you well on your way! Good luck!

    Really helpful video! It's amazing how much you can do with a budget setup. People don't need a $1,000 mic and Pro Tools to make music. Just go with whatever you can afford and just do it - that's the most important part.
    However I do have one small suggestion - I think your explanation of a condenser mic plus interface could be confusing for some people. I'm sure your point is to use an XLR mic and an audio interface for better quality. But this has nothing to do with how the mic itself works (aka condenser or dynamic). With your explanation it seems like "condenser mic = XLR mic = better quality", but you can also have a USB condenser mic such as the AT2020USB+. And they're perfectly fine if you don't want to buy an interface.
    The important thing is not to go for a dynamic mic instead of a condenser, no matter if they'yre XLR or USB, at least for the purposes you're talking about. They're just better as allround mics for all kinds stuff you want to do - YT videos, vocal covers, podcasts.
    Bottom line: sorry for the long comment, I didn't mean to over-criticise. These are definitely very good tips if you want to start recording! Keep it up!

      Hi, I see what you mean but it's not 100% true.
      Why is the Sure SM7b so popular?
      If you are a voice over artist or a singer, you're looking for a mic who can reproduce your voice accurately. That's what a condenser mic is suppose to do. It's called "flat". UA-camrs & podcasters are lees concerned with this and like their voices sounding deeper, (these mics are "coloured") that's for example what the sm7b does.
      Another important point to notice is that the diaphragm is smaller and will pick up less background noise which is very important when you are not recording in a booth.
      Last but not least, every body focus on the mic the audio interface but the xlr cable is as important as the other 2 elements and a good one is far to be cheap. A bad one will ruin your work or start creating distortion after 30mn

      @@LeSaff so condenser microphone can record other annoying sounds like fans or cars outside etc??

    • @LeSaff
      @LeSaff 2 роки тому +1

      @@km-ke2lz yes it will and it will also sounds like you record from a church if you don't have a booth.
      Voice meter banana will allow you to reduce this effect and Krisp the external noises. After, with the noise reduction and a noise gate VST plug in you will be able to completely remove it.
      But if you don't record voice over I highly recommend to buy a USB podcast dynamic microphone.
      I don't recommend the SM7B because if your audio interface is not strong enough you will have to buy an external (expensive) preamp and this mic is also super sensitive to the plosives.
      A usb mic will provide the same quality without the set up of an audio interface and a good XLR cable.

    Great video❤️ I just wanted to clarify you can use a dynamic mic on an interface too. She accidentally said if not usb better quality is a condenser or xlr but there are condenser usb mic and dynamic usb and both in xlr. Xlr is the balanced cable to connect your mic to your interface or preamp! Stay happy much love ❤️
