I keep hearing that Jormungandr is completely shut down by backdodging. Could we get a video to deny/confirm this?
I'm not the professional here, but it's not true, you CAN still do something. Although, it's ALMOST, true. Not to be the guy who looks too far into this, but for new Jormungandr players, definitely going to be shut down. For those who are experts or somewhat decent with Jormungandr, they'll stop you.

I do it all the time i don't have video obviously but when you feint and unblockable for a grab every time they dodge or attempt to parry, it completely fails

JizzoTheLoneWolf It doesn’t, it was more of a joke statement. You have to play the character to learn how to fight them imo. Hence why I have a good ten reps on everyone except aramusha, glad, and orochi. Didn’t need to learn them to fight them.

I forgot to mention one thing in the video: PK, LB, Glad, BP, and Shaman's counters no longer work after a hit light. All other characters still work fine.
Most of the time you'll use these counters after blocked heavies anyway.

Question: it makes sense that a character like LB with a 400ms attack could Boop to interrupt Hito, but how come gladiator can just throw a light (or even shaolin left lights) when other characters can’t?

Endless Dark you can, just you’ll eat a guardbreak or a sweep if you guess wrong so I don’t normally go for the flip

If you’re Kensei and you dodge the sweep. You can get a side heavy for 40
Damage. I tested it with a friend as he is maining Kensei and it was consistent as the guard for the Hitokiri was too slow to be able to block and/or parry the heavy. [Edit] Like so he sees this

It's about time... this game trully suffers from not having such kind of tutorials (anti characters). Everyone posts montage, anti ganks (including myself) and almost nobody cares about anti-strategy, which is the most crucial in any game mode.
I myself still struggle a lot against Jorm and Tiandi. Hope Jorm is next.
I mean freeze always gives tips to counter moves whenever he uploads a frame data video of a certain character. It's just the fact that most people don't watch it properly/don't play optimally
@@aeroblaze4 I honestly barely watch any videos of FH, rep 200 here, but always get my hands on Freeze's videos. Thing is, I focus %100 on videos titled 'counter' or 'anti', I guess the ones you mentioned were tips thrown here and there that is why.
@@zangana3052 if you really wanna counter a character, just check out Freeze's video on the specific character framedate. You'll learn what's reactable and not, and freeze even tells what moves have actual offensive pressure and what gets countered by abusing the unintended moves.
Other than that, competitive sub used to be pretty good for checking out counters but it's gone dogshit recently. You can still find something good there once in a blue moon though

Even though I know they can be option selected in many of their moves, but I dont have the time to lab them myself and test every possible option. Glad someone s taking time to do that for us.
I find BP to be the worst character to fight against. Unpunishable chain bash is something that shouldn't be in the game.

Dude this is no where small! Needs all possible testing with every single character in the game, and if something works or not, you gotta test it again and again just to make sure.

Use hitos full kit and dont be predictable I have 40 reps on Hito and my favorite thing about her kit is the Variable timed heavies I love watching people suffer while trying to parry them
I needed this video, freeze. Hitokiri and Jorm are the only characters I struggle against (I took a break from the game when they came out) and now I don't have to struggle as much with hitokiri.
IMPORTANT TIP: In addition to Hitokiri's 3 kick mix up. She also has a 4th: kick feint into lights and heavys. Thus keeping you in her game of guessing.

@@mankeman4460 No, don't think so. They can both be backstepped but at the risk of getting baited into a guard break. But to test it, go into custom match with a friend.
I'm a filthy Hitokiri main. Jorm is the best counter to Hitokiri. As he's mix ups are similar in nature but with stamina pressure, hyper armor, and faster attacks. But in my opinion Hitokiri is the most versatile character along with kensei.
The light has low tracking while her fastest heavy can be blocked after the 1st Backward light
Could you please do HLs kick to grab next? Many people watch your vids so if you cover it there'll be a lot more people who counter it, which would lead to Ubi realizing that HL needs a rework even more

Conqueror may not be able to backstep attack out of the mixup but I think his side dodge bash covers everything, albeit inconsistently. If Conq dodges into the kick (opposite side of the Hito’s first attack, but idk which side for tops) he can dodge the kick, bash snuffs out feint to GB and also can’t be armored through for a sweep. The timing is very finicky though, because if you start your bash too early you’ll get kicked (I think you cancel some dodge frames or something) and if you delay the bash the GB can come out before you get the bash off. I wish I could test this but I have no friends who play the game!

Thanks for the great vid and keep the great content coming. Valk also has an option select for this though. I'm certain you're aware but I'll say it for other people's sake, Valkyrie can option select the entire kick mixup, on reaction, with her Shield Tackle (the back dodge GB/full block that nobody uses). I apologize in advance for the length of this comment.
The basics of it are that the GB input during the back dodge moves Valkyrie back more into the full block stance, acting like a double back dodge, meaning that she's outside of GB range and she just dodged, so right there the kick and the kick-feint-GB will both just wiff, from there she can feint the full block to neutral and either dodge the sweep for a GB (she's already outside of GB range so dodging is safe, and this can be done on reaction), feint into neutral then GB to catch Hito's wiffed GB/kick recovery (may require Valk's forward dodge GB to not double wiff the GB's depending on distance), or just feint to neutral cause Hito feinted to neutral trying to bait Valk's dodge attack or something.
The timing can be a little weird so here's how you do it. First, the back dodge, blocking a heavy will but Valk in hitstun long enough that if you buffer the back dodge and the GB to enter full bock then she won't back dodge and she'll just throw a gb into HIto's kick/sweep (ouch), if you delay the back dodge too much then Hito's sweep will hit her cause she can't feint the full block to neutral fast enough to dodge so, the back dodge has to be input at a slight delay, with a buffered GB input to move into full block, and then and immediate feint to neutral with a buffered dodge if you see the sweep coming (the sweep will track early dodges so it's best to use the training mode to get an idea of when the animation is right). There is a pretty narrow window to do this but it is always possible to option select the whole mixup on reaction from a blocked heavy. I have not tested whether or not this works on on a hit light, I only know that it works on a hit heavy and blocked heavy. The only real weakness of the Shield Tackle option select is that it takes at least 1/4 of her stamina to use, and that's not including any punishes, imo this is probably the strongest defensive tool in the game since Hidden Stance got nerfed.
Feel like I should mention this while I'm at it, this move also option selects/counters these mixups:
1: Warden's Shoulderbash Mixup
2: Kensei's Top Heavy Mixup (with the exception of a forward dodge GB soft feint from the top heavy)
3: BP and Conq's delayed shieldbash mixups (GB or bash mixup)
4: Lawbringer's Shove (can punish it if you let the shield tackle go immediately, but has a narrow timing)
5: Warlord's delayed headbut mixup (GB or bash mixup)
6: Highlander OS Mixups (some of them can be countered some of them can't, and some can be avoided but not punished)
7: Jiang Jun's Shin Kick Mixup
This is formatted really well and made it pretty easy to understand, despite being some pretty deep knowledge. Now to try to implement it into my gameplay without going full stupid and forgetting.

I think Aramusha can actually backstep heavy, but only his top. Yet I feel like it can be GB countered if the Hitokiri feints into GB.
Not if you continue the chain, ara is GB invulnerable
Do you do backstep attacks on reaction to see her start the animation, or do you have to buffer it on prediction that she will branch into kick? If it's the later, then do any of her other options, ie the heavy or a chained light, track you well enough as you backstep?
333cheeseboy all of them can be done on a quick reaction since you can see and acknowledge the kick before the blockstun from the heavy ends

I think Hitokiri would be a lot less of a threat if the uncharged kick only guaranteed a light. Hell, even a chain starter light would be fine. But hito’s mix up options almost all lead to a heavy on success.
I know this is off topic for this video. But what if Cent was able to stoft-feint his punch into a kick? Make his kick faster and remove the light attack punish. Then only allow for a non-guaranteed heavy. Boom full combo loop. Or just keep the confirmed light.

To counter hito, I use warden, back up, get the bashing going and force them to predict, which can push them into defence.
For lawbro u can just side dodge shove once u see the indicator and it shoves hito out of the mixup

Conq can avoid the kick with left dodge bash and can trade(interrupt?) sweep. Not done too much testing on this, but from my experiences in live matches that is the best way for him to do it
I usually feint the kick and dodge on prediction when a conqueror dodge bashes my mix-up and i get a free guardbreak after, so be careful with that

I didn't know about the back light into shoulder bash but I've been top heavy trading for a long time. Also the heavy feint into gb. But now I understand why some heavy feints didn't work, it has to be side.
A friend of mine said that (he mains shogo) that it is a little bs that he can hyper armor with his lights and said that BP needs better hyper armor on his heavy attacks.

Good lord the only time i've ever intentionally backstepped a attack was to get to a specific part of a combo with a character so it can't be blocked or parried.
This is some big brain stuff.
You've missed a lot of backstep counters that used to go on in this game since launch.
@@aeroblaze4 Every time I did it was mostly either a happy or bad accident that I immediately grew out of during beta, only other things related to backstepping I still do is either backstepping itself or just backstepping into roll.
It's good to know that the characters not included in this list can't do anything against the Hitokiri mix-up Thankfully, most characters do have some kind of counter.
Seems like Vipers retreat on Nobu would work. Maybe they missed it. And I'm guessing Shinobi can't do anything even with his OP defense.
Haven't tested it, but it can probably be parried if the kick is feinted, and most likely trades with the sweep.
Do Warden SB too. I don't believe it's a simple guess game, there has to be something more on how to counter that

as much as I dislike seeing Raid in every content creator's videos nowadays, you gotta admit... they're really out here putting food on the table for a loooot of folks that aren't otherwise compensated for their effort.
I still skip past the adverts and I'll never download the game, but yanno, it's still nice to see our favorite creators make a bit of dough for a quick minute of adverts, that UA-cam* doesn't force *you to watch 5 seconds before skipping (or a full 15 if you're unlucky.)
