Fun fact: If you actually divide by zero, the game will softlock. Reason being, dividing a through b is implemented by subtracting b from a until it goes negative and count how often. If b is zero you can subtract it as much as you want, a will never get negative.
TayoEXE with legendaries like mewtwo and articuno, if you were to try and catch them without inflicting damage and using just a regular pokéball, it will just say the same as it does in the safari zone.
+GamesGod49 So if you scrolled down far enough in your Pokémon menu, could you find the real Pokémon? Theoretically, the last one you have would be Rhydon if the Pokémon are in reverse index order.
+MrFireCowboy I think the reason the Pokemon center goes crazy like that is not because I have 255 Pokemon, but because I have actually do have 0 Pokemon in my party. The Pokecenter keeps counting up the Pokemon to heal until it equals the number of Pokemon in your party. So, say you had 3 Pokemon, the logic would be like: 1 Pokemon Healed. Does 1 equal 3? No. Continue. 2 Pokemon Healed. Does 2 equal 3? No. Continue. 3 Pokemon Healed. Does 3 equal 3? Yes. Stop healing. But, since I have 0 Pokemon, and it starts counting from 1, it looks like: 1 Pokemon Healed. Does 1 equal 0? No. Continue. 2 Pokemon Healed. Does 2 equal 0? No. Continue. 3 Pokemon Healed. Does 3 equal 0? No. Continue. 4 Pokemon Healed. Does 4 equal 0? No. Continue. 5 Pokemon Healed. Does 5 equal 0? No. Continue. 6 Pokemon Healed. Does 6 equal 0? No. Continue. 7 Pokemon Healed. Does 7 equal 0? No. Continue. (and so on... seemingly to infinity) The only saving grace is that due to memory constraints, the datatype the developers used to store that number only can hold values between 0 and 255 (an 8-byte integer). If it tries to use a number greater than 255, the value "overflows", and it wraps around back to 0. So eventually, after healing for a really long time, and totally wrecking the screen with glitch graphics, the logic eventually gets to: 254 Pokemon Healed. Does 254 equal 0? No. Continue. 255 Pokemon Healed. Does 255 equal 0? No. Continue. 0 Pokemon Healed. Does 0 equal 0? Yes. Stop healing. ...which is why the Pokecenter makes it seem like I have 255 Pokemon, even though I really have 0. Even worse is in Generation III, which has the same glitch with the Pokecenter. However, the GBA had a lot less memory restrictions, so they used a 32-byte integer to store the number... meaning that in Generation III, it would take over four billion Pokemon before Nurse Joy would finally stop healing.
+MinePlayersPE [PRIVATE] Since it takes the number of Pokemon you have, subtracts from it, draws a sprite, then checks if it's 0. So if you have 1 Pokemon, it'll set the value to 1, subtract 1, draw a Pokeball, then check if 1 - 1 = 0, which it does. In 8-bit memory, however, an unsigned integer when subtracted goes from ( starting from a random number ) 3, to 2, to 1, to 0, to ... 255. And since it subtracts before checking if the integer is 0, the integer rolls over and results in going through ~256 loops before finally finishing.
Turns out Oak needed to give Red a Pokemon to protect the world from him. Turns out Red breaks reality when left to his own devices. He must be an Eldritch Horror or something.
Wild OAK appeared! What will RED do? RED used LEAVE WITHOUT POKEMON! It didn't affect OAK! Wild OAK used BLAB! It's super effective! What will RED do? ... Got away safely!

The chaos that erupts when pokemon simply disappear is too much, and it results in a dulled version of reality. The disappearance of pokemon takes it's toll on the protagonist, and he starts hallucinating seeing the pokemon he misses so dearly, even going so far as to see people as pokemon and hearing pokemon cries when he speaks to them. Deciding to go home, to the place he started from, he sees Oak, the man who warned him and the other youth countless times about venturing off without pokemon, and he approaches him...or does he? Is Oak just another hallucination? Oak seems to keep fluctuating between the wise elder the protagonist once knew and a beautiful girl his age. Perhaps this girl was a crush he had? Maybe a close relative? Or maybe she represents his dreams - dreams now shattered and lost forever due to the loss of pokemon? He hears the warning of the old man he chose to ignore so long ago echo in his mind: "It's unsafe! wild pokemon live in the tall grass! You need your own pokemon for your protection! I know! Here, come with me." The hallucination walks off into town, but the protagonist does not follow. He turns and leaves, unable to face his friends or his mother. He marches off for what feels like forever, seeing visions of children as shady criminals. Are these really hallucinations? Or are they glimpses of mankind's true nature - that man is the true animal, and that we are all destined to plunder and destroy? He marches on and eventually collapses. His vision fades as he leaves this world, a world without pokemon, a monochrome world that was never meant to exist.
So clearly this happens because the game is reading garbage data and interpreting it as Pokémon, and presumably the intro uses Pokémon data as extra storage. My question is why the ENEMY Pokémon bugs out. Also the healing thing is because the game reads garbage data as Pokémon and thinks your party is hundreds of Pokémon long.
I did something like this back in the day when Red was still kinda new with a Gameshark... gave myself the "?????" item that lets you surf in a new game... too bad there was no UA-cam then to upload this, I did a lot of tinkering with the Gameshark. Still remember the Mew code to this day. 0115D8CF.
In the newer versions (IE: Gold/silver/crystal and onward) going out without pokemon will not allow this to occur. Instead, if you get into a battle, the game goes white and it treats it as if you won the battle (But no rewards are given)
I've already tried it with wall hacks, it's not possible unless you force the game code to bypass the failsafe code that causes it to white-out when the battle loads (The battle doesn't even appear, the failsafe triggers when a battle attempts to load.)
TheUltamitedog No, Gen2 and onward (Gold,Silver, Crystal - Game Boy Color.) The game will white out when a battle attempts to load and you have no pokemon in your party.
This gave me an idea for a Pokemon game where you CAN go without Pokemon by saying "no" to a question asked by oak that the rom hack adds. Then, he would give you a Tranquiliser gun or something like that, and just let you go. You could use this to take out Pokemon that you encounter, kind of acting like a Pokemon yourself in the battle like you have; Punch, which is completely useless aganist any self-respecting Pokemon that is more than level 3. Tranq.Gun, which is a mostly insta KO ability, but needs darts, which are not free. Take Cover, which would make your defense a bit more highed, at least enough to last more than 2 turns aganist anything, Run, self explanatory. But you can't challange any Pokemon trainers or Gym leaders because, well, you don't have a Pokemon. But this game would add some more things to not make you completely pointless, for example you can maybe have a decision to join Team Rocket, which would be a complete diffrent branch of story which would end with Team Rocket victory, or you could take up arms aganist them, blasting your way through their ranks and aiding people who are standing aganist them. But in the end of both stories, your rival would end up becoming the champion after some time because you were really the only unbeatable challange for him, as evidanced by him moving through the Gyms as quickly as you do in the original game. But of course, you can say "yes" to the question at start and play the game normally, even if you didn't and wanted to after about the middlei you can always just buy a Pokeball at any time and catch a Pokemon, starting your adventure normally. Keep in mind Oak will refuse to give you a starter if you say "no", so you would have to do with a wild one that may or may not listen to you and cause you trouble. P.S: You can't use the Tranq. Gun after you catch a wild Pokemon. P.P.S: Wow, you read this far? Conqlurations! (Intentionally misspelled)
***** By changing the battle system, putting actual code to tell the game what to do if the player has no pokemon (So it doesn't freak out and plays as normally if you don't have Pokemon)
Some info to those interested: - The enemy Pokémon encountered are all Missingno. despite having the original to-be-encountered Pokémon's sprite in the battle. (If you catch the Pokémon, it will be a Missingno., and after the Pokédex entry it will revert to a Rhydon like any non-hybrid Glitch Pokémon.) - Just in case the Zapdos cry wasn't a giveaway, the Pokémon you send out is a 'M (hex 00) with no moves, so that the game reads its first and only move as - ("Cooltrainer move", also hex 00; viewing it may start the TMTRAINER effect). I'm guessing the game is forced to read 00 values (since you don't have any Pokémon) as actual useful data, and that's why this happens. - You cannot actually access the stats or moveset of the 'M you send out in any way, because...it's kind of not there. It's like a blank dummy that immediately ceases existing once you catch or otherwise receive a Pokémon.
Absolutely correct. Although I forgot to show it in the video, if you wait around for the counter to reach 256, Nurse Joy does finally succeed in healing your Pokemon. When this happens, the game glitches out even further. The graphics get scrambled, it's difficult to walk around, and the NPCs' text becomes random garbage. Once when I did it, I wound up in a white void with just me and Nurse Joy, and when I tried talking to her, the game reset itself.
I just tried this out. My emulator kept glitching and fucking up on me. How do you prevent? Because everytime I ran from a battle, it would completely glitch out on me.
+Michael Engles You can't. Once you get into a battle without Pokemon, I don't think there's any way out without the game freezing (Unless you're in yellow version, in which case that's a completely different story -- see part 4).
+Michael Engles I use VBA also, so I don't think so. But Pokemon Yellow does a lot of weird things when you leave a battle. If you run from the battle, the overworld sprites glitch out, and if you win a battle, you get transported to weird glitchy areas.
What if you catch a pokemon after leaving Pallet Town before getting your starter? There is the walk through walls cheat and it takes me out in the middle of the ocean. Should I just catch one of those that I run into or just keep letting it glitch out?
+Michael Engles It'll probably fix the game. In Red/Blue, you can't really catch a Pokemon, because even if you do, the game crashes afterwards. In Yellow, though, the battles don't crash when they end, so catching Pokemon probably works.
Prof. Oak: "Here, come with me." Andrew: "Haha, nope!" *[proceeds to run in the opposite direction, phasing through walls, cliffs and vegetation before reaching the edge of the known world and exploding]*
+Thallan the reason is because its game on gameboy, those games were and are only in 3 shades of grey (or rather green) and black (darker green). but the emulator is running this as a gameboy color game. gameboy color was design in the way that gives gameboy games some basic color pallet. it has NOTHING to do with how old it is. how old it is only cause it to be simple in terms of graphics but it has NOTHING to do with character having colour and rest of the game having no color. those ppl arw just dumbass
The RAMS memory overflow makes the game display glitched sprites due to tricks like the ditto trick, old man trick and the Mew trick being used, combining these tricks can have the games glitched game save data output Pokémon in the form of glitched sprites
Hey this is awesome never seen a better video for generation 1 pokemon games mannnn. After seeing this i tried to attempt it on my own i found it intensely awesome! Please upload more videos like this!
wait a sec, i just saw the first battle with the random pokemon sayin its loafing around, like if it has he truant ability.... isnt that slakings ability which wasnt implemented yet in red? ._.
Lets say you trade and get a pokemon level 60 and you only have two badges, then that pokemon its not going to obey you for being overleveled and things like "loafing around" or "randomly sleeps" can occur
Sort of. Red and Blue are actually coded to Japanese Blue (and use the spritework), but the locations of Pokemon and version exclusives were in Japanese Red and Green. In a sense, they are each their own version.
By the way, the reason the health bars were so long, if I'm not mistaken is one of the varieties of the TMTRAINER effect, after using a move called 'Super Glitch'. A confusing thing though, is usually the TMTRAINER effect gives the opponent a burn, says it's frozen solid and when it loses HP it says it's poisoned. Then usually the HP will drop all the way to zero, and after the battle ends your game becomes severely fucked.
So this is why you need a pokemon to be safe pokemon keep the very fabric of reality together

I love how the battle theme turnes into a gym tune
I also had the pokemon cry be the sound of a potion one time
the pokemon glitch sounds like a Cloyster
Dasilio thanks. I was looking to see if anyone knew what it was
electrocat1 ;)
try Rhydon and the other cry is Zapdos or Moltres
Pretty sure it's Nidoqueen's cry followed by Zapdos' cry.
AndrewFMs lol you guys are correct sounds like Zapdos
This video is so old. I wonder how this guy is today? I hope it's ok
yeah I'm good
He and Joar Jakobsson made Rain World. It's a really cool game, I highly recommend it👍
@@high_intelligence_specimen ty for the info
If you use Super Gameboy (SGB) mode, the colors change after glitchy battle! Found this out as Pokemon Cock Edition has grassy areas in Pallet Town.

MISSINGNO. !
the healing glitch 2:21 it does that because the game thinks you have all 151 pokemon so it stops after all 151 pokemon have been healed
Actually the game thinks you have all 194 Pokemon, that includes the glitch Pokemon
HuskyMukipers10 That is because it has to include the spaces that missingno and others were added to fill up.
TheGamingGecko9 Because there were originally going to be 190 Pokémon, but then some were saved for gen 2.
WOW 2008?
This video was too unique
So the fourth starter is ! !
Thank you youtube for letting me encounter this video from my childhood once more...
Isn't it dumb you can't go anywhere in the world without having a Pokémon and you need to beat the shit out of pokemon to get places
I was using Pokemon Yellow on my VBA emulator. Could it just be the emulator?
Prof. Oak: "Here, come with me."
Andrew: "Haha, nope!" *[proceeds to run in the opposite direction, phasing through walls, cliffs and vegetation before reaching the edge of the known world and exploding]*
Caitlyn Jenner at 8:24 lol
Wtf the characters are in color but everything else is in black and white
TheRandomVideo Maker what do you think did the 1991 had good graphics and epic pictures?
DERPUS FURPUS yeah that makes sense
this game is from 1996...
Actually 4 shades of green.
Its grey on emulators.
The RAMS memory overflow makes the game display glitched sprites due to tricks like the ditto trick, old man trick and the Mew trick being used, combining these tricks can have the games glitched game save data output Pokémon in the form of glitched sprites
Ok
2:20 G g
GG you kill me
"Rush of bugs is super effective!"
"Emulator fainted"
Oldest video I've seen on YT :)
Bottemiller Postings wtf? Why do you guys keep saying that? This video isn't even that old
electrocat1 yep 8 years aren't old enough
Bottemiller Postings just search "me at the zoo"
You guys are making me feel old.
You guys are making me feel not old enough. :|
I'm amazed. This video is 6 years old and is still getting a steady flow of comments and views. AndrewFMs, bravo, good sir.
RIP game
6:03 MISSINGNO!!!
OMG
Hey this is awesome never seen a better video for generation 1 pokemon games mannnn. After seeing this i tried to attempt it on my own i found it intensely awesome! Please upload more videos like this!
wait a sec, i just saw the first battle with the random pokemon sayin its loafing around, like if it has he truant ability.... isnt that slakings ability which wasnt implemented yet in red? ._.
When a Pokemon is overleveled (you haven't got the right badge todo controll it) it can loaf around, or hurt itself...
Lets say you trade and get a pokemon level 60 and you only have two badges, then that pokemon its not going to obey you for being overleveled and things like "loafing around" or "randomly sleeps" can occur
IS NOT POSIIBLE!
It was back in red
On yellow is easy ... you can beat the game in 0:00 x) without cheat only glitch
9:15 I laughed so hard at those 2 on the left! XD
Ca me Because reasons.
IS JESUS 2:51
Sort of. Red and Blue are actually coded to Japanese Blue (and use the spritework), but the locations of Pokemon and version exclusives were in Japanese Red and Green. In a sense, they are each their own version.
Thanks, Andrew
By the way, the reason the health bars were so long, if I'm not mistaken is one of the varieties of the TMTRAINER effect, after using a move called 'Super Glitch'. A confusing thing though, is usually the TMTRAINER effect gives the opponent a burn, says it's frozen solid and when it loses HP it says it's poisoned. Then usually the HP will drop all the way to zero, and after the battle ends your game becomes severely fucked.
This is scarier than any pokemon creepy pasta
I can imagine next day newspaper title:
"Trainer leaves town with no Pokemon. Universe collapses"
Oak : You need your Pokemon for protection! Here, follow me.
*runs the other direction*
