I did this to my diy Tele I got for Christmas a couple years ago , it had the typical top loading ashtray bridge. But I had to wing it with my drill because I don't have a drill press. Came out pretty good and was definitely an improvement in resonance...
Man, I gotta hand it to ya: I'm pretty sure it was here on your channel that I saw the advice to check if a piece of fret wire is fully pressed in before looking to file or dress it. I've had 3 guitars now that all had a bit of buzz due to a fret sitting proud because it wasn't fully seated, including my Schecter C-7 SLS Elite. A couple good taps on the proud frets, and 3 out of 3 were fixed the easy way, no fret dressing needed! Thanks so much, brother.. I'm all about that practical advice that saves me time and money. Love this channel. Subbing.
Merry Christmas Sean, Cathy, & Everyone Scarred ...
Live Free or Die, From Pew Hampshire !!!
Yeah, guitars find me more than I go looking for them.
I like your channel, great humor and a lot of fun.
Subscribed.
Awesome, thank you!
tons of humor I laugh through every episode . this guy is hilarious.
When you can make an electric guitar sound like an acoustic you must be doing something right. I'm almost afraid of watching anybody else. Hey I'm a rookie I need to learn fast. Thanks Sean and Cathy.
I have had several CORTs from Indonesia and they had excellent workmanship and really good pickups...
My first guitar. 1985 was a Cort Strat body, but a solid body no pick guard. Dual humbuckers, a built in speaker and a spring loaded tremolo. I gifted it to a friend to learn on when I got my Harmony Strat
That is an awesome guitar. Corts are great, you’re right! As for that body wood…I bet it would make an incredible acoustic.
Right on!
Like your tricks and ways of progressing. Enjoying your channel .
Bo from Georgia.
Thanks 👍
Wow 😱 Worth every penny 💯 work of art Sean as usual 👏 Hello to Cathy 🤗 and everyone 👍✌️ From the Pacific Northwest 🎄🎄⛄⛄
That’s a feather weight I’ve always liked the way those Cort Strats look and I’m digging the red tortoise with the zebra duncans and those witch hat knobs tie it together just right. It sounds great too , you can just about bet your paycheck if an electric is that loud played acoustically it’s going to rip wherever you plug it up. Honestly if I’m looking at electrics below 500 dollars a lot of time I don’t even plug them up if they feel good and sound good acoustically if the pickups pots and switches suck gives me a good excuse to put something I want in there anyway.
Nice grab Sean. Cort makes good stuff. Read commenters' testimonials below. Watch for Samick too, they're in the same business as Cort, mainly building guitars for other brands' "affordable" lines but without the giant markup. Merry Christmas everyone, or which ever holiday you're celebrating.
lol Kathy is the real mastermind of Scarred Guitars 😂
I would like to see you show a couple of cheap bass teardowns and reviews. Thanks Sean
I don’t play Bass so…
@@scarmyguitar I hear ya brother, thanks
Thanks Sean and Cathy.Another great video. 🐕🎸
A CORT 2-HB guitar is a well made guitar from Indonesia and guitar guys know that Samick and CORT make most of all the electrics for all over the world...
I had a couple cort guitars growing up they were awesome but now there crazy expensive now if you could even find them looks like I'm going to start looking there
Florida man looses his finger thumping a a moving drill bit , hahahahaha, Guitar looks and sounds great.
This wuz a guudin' Sean. Like the way you think and do. That is a killer Cort!! Thanks for the instruction with everyman's tools! Scar On!!
You had a connection with the acoustic and that helps. Good job finding this lightweight gem! Pickups helped a lot, as did the string through mod. You created a keeper man, good job! Also, some of your best playing IMO right out the gate. This is why we do this!
Merry Christmas Sean!
Peace and Love to you and your family.
🎸🎼🎵🎶✌😔🙏🇺🇸❤
It's super fun upgrading junk guitars.
You give me so many bad ideas LOL!
Corts are nefariously underrated
Nice demo and playing 👍
Definitely a workhorse guitar worth keeping forever.
Nice find, cool budget guitar and sounds good. Merry Christmas Sean and Cathy 🎄🎁
Good tutorial Sean. Merry Christmas
😂😂😂 You’re clearly trying to stop Cathy from shopping by going to the GC website yourself! Go get him, Cathy! Sean is denying you your right to buy affordable (PINK! 🤣🤣🤣) guitars! 😂😂😂
i found a Xcort under a floor of a house i was working on, had a few dings but it cleaned up well and sounds non to shabby..
i think i need to dig it out and scar it a bit, but i hear you brother about the neck i remember i liked that alot
I've ben shopping at Guitar Sphincter since 81, and it's a very different place from where they used to be. It's now owned by a venture capitalist firm, and it shows.
I built a strat using a Paulownia wood body and have the same result as you did here. Everybody said that wood was not good, but I like the sound as much as the Tele that has heavy ass Swamp Ash. To each their own!
Hey Sean! I bought an IYV issy 200 na , sandwiched neck thru body and after some better pickups and fret polishing… it rocks! $160 delivered.
That thing is great. I think I'm gonna put the locking tuners on that glarry I got sitting in the closet. Merry X-mas!!!
Yeah! I’ve been using a Petrucci with piezo and electric split stereo for years but have always toyed with the idea of adding a piezo to my tele
Well done, I especially like your answer to the reason for the strings through the body. I have been wondering about that, now I know.
hi shawn nice cort .i bought a awesome cort acoustic lefty for my nephew when he was 15yrs old he still has it and plays it all the time it was 20 yrs old when it was made awesome guitar
Much better than This Old House remodel videos.
I would buy a Cort HH100 and a string through the bridge bridge and put Cathy’s pickups in it. I would also dig a used throw away carcass and be happy with it! And then is true about the bridge rattling. The string through and HT Strat bridge is the truth! It sounds as good as an HH T Fender, every bit!
nice....
but I'm a'liking my CathyBuckers...!
Nice one, Sean. You really nailed this one. Guitar, I mean. ALL of your videos are awesome!
Merry Christmas Scarnation
Happy Holidays to You & Yours
I have a Cort bass. It's a dual load mount. Running the strings through the body, as opposed to top mount, makes a huge difference in sustain.
I was going to do a string through on a telecaster and chickened out. I traded the Tele. Figured it was better than ruining the body
Seymour Duncan used a record player to wind pickups
Nice work! Great explanation as usual - thanks!
Awesome job Sean love that guitar.
Sean, thank you so much for this! I was wanting to do this exact same thing to a telecaster style guitar I recently bought.
Although it's a different style of bridge plate (It has already has holes for the string-through option), it also wasn't drilled.
I was wondering if my hand drill would be good enough to do the job, but since you've shown me how a bit can bend and walk, I'm fixing to head to my local Harbor Freight for a cheap drill press, and a champering bit (and plastic hammer), so I can do justice to this awesome $98 (shipped) tele.. My 1st tele style, ever!I bought another scratch plate and ferrules from Temu, and am going to have a blast modding this guitar shaped object from China.
I also have two Strat style bodies and necks from Temu that I'm building from the ground up, alongside a Squire Strat that needed a fresh paint job.
It also needs some of those Catbuckers, "hint-hint".
Thanks for all of the helpful and inspiring information and support!
Rusty
CORT guitars are well-made in Indonesia and one with Seymour Duncan pickups was already done over. Duncans are top notch pickups! But a plain Cort pickup set is fine! I buy guitars used and correct small defects, if any, and do all the setup myself and it is easy to learn...
You are super creative and good presentation. Thanks man.
Thank you too!
Cool Cort , looks and sounds great 👍
I am almost to the ferrel drilling on my scar kit
We want to see when you are done 😁
Great episode, thanks. 😎🤓
You got time to do that. Black back
I had a used Cort back in the 90's. It got a lot of use before the bridge/tremolo system fell apart. Back then I didn't know I could have just replaced it. I don't remember what I ended up doing with it, but I still have the pickups.
I love that guitar! I want to do a HH setup on the Plywood Silvertone. I am surprised that it is not heavier and that sounds is to die for. What is palawina wood?
Hey Sean. Merry Christmas!
Same to you!
Sounds good unplugged and the red stain did made the scars less noticeable though being that it's a second hand guitar and the marks are on the back I don't know if I would have wasted the stain. But, if you like it better then that's what matters.
Yeah I woulda gigged with that, back in my giggin' days. Total sleeper guitar. I'm always lookin' at Corts when I'm surfing for used guitars. One of these days... Yeah, I played a New Years gig once and a mosh pit formed and someone ran right into my mic stand and mashed the fretboard on my Gibson Flying V. It wasn't new, but still. Anyway, happy holidays to ya man. \m/
Thank you!
Guitar sound perfect. You don't need anything else. Nice find and upgrade.
Nice vid buddy!
Yeah buddy new video!!!
Great channel besides the guitar info, i like the interaction between them both 😅😅. I like Cort Fat series guitars. Want one real bad someday. They are good for the money. Take care 👍👋💯🎸🎸
Cory builds some solid guitars one of my first guitars was a cortez Les Paul copy (Cort was named Cortez in the 70’s) not sure what spured the name change but it was a pretty good guitar
I love Cort! I have three now;) love em !
Great deal and upgrade. You Scared that guitar, for life.
Speaking of Guitar Center employees, I had an interaction with a human feminine hygiene product there today.
LOL!!!
ha ha!
You da man! Awesome guitar bro.
oooooooooooo that cort sounds really nice!
That's a nice guitar. Great work. What size bit did you use for the string ferrules?
Great find, great gtr, great vid, better than wastin time on some whacked dumpster gtr.
Merry Christmas to all
I do like your videos. Great job showing the novice luthier that it’s not an exclusive practice
That's enough FLIP FLAPPIN'!!! 💥😁
Damn, Sean that is good unpluggeg
Dang that sounds so nice!
I have a Palownia body strat and it resonates better than any my other guitars
I'll take the acoustic Sean!
Really do detest top loaders, this is a great solution 👍
Great stuff
I f you play a gig in place where there’s a sign over the urinal that says “ Don’t eat the Big White Mint “ you may be in for a tough night. Road House, the original version, by Sam Elliot. 😂Giggidy Giggidy.
Gold pick guard screws
Nice it's certainly light compared to my American Alder body Super Strat which weights in at 11 pounds, love pickup choice, that Scar guitar looks like a screamer ,
Have you ever owned a Yamaha Pacifica electric ⚡ guitar the new ones are getting up in price back in the day you can get them cheap and they played good
You should buy a Black & Decker Workmate Portable Project Center and Vise
I think you should holler at Warren Haynes and you could play some Govt. Mule
Love cort guitars
I always look for Aria Pro, Electra, Yamaha, Westone, Greco, Peavey USA Predators are a really nice guitar, and Peavey T series. Guitar center has a weird way of cataloging the used stuff if you type in Used Used Electric guitars you will find a lot of the unknown brands. I love your videos and you have taught me a thing or two. Happy hunting.
Even Cort student models are good quality. Good modding platforms, although, the mid level ones ( still under $400) don’t really need it unless you have a personal preference for tuners or pickups.
GREAT nice video....
He/they always does great vids.
Love to see a man enjoy what he was meant to do...
How did it sound with the original bridge blocked? I just deck my trems and go🎸🎵🤟
So… are you just not going to post an update on the dumpster Les Paul?
I just received a strat kit for Christmas and the neck and body fit is really loose. How should I go about it? This will be my first build. It’s really loose.
My Dean 7 string and Ibanez 7 string are both made by Cort guitars the Dean is a 2002 so it was made in Korea before they moved to Indonesia where my Ibanez was made great guitars
You should check out Japanese rust erasers
Good find... should be a great "work" guitar ..
I'd love to find another austin hatchet
Whatever happened to that gold top that you saved from the dumpster
I'm looking for some help. I bought a Cort action plus bass. It's a beginner level, nothing special with a 2 band active eq, maple bolt on neck although it has a scarf joint,etc... I want to upgrade have already put some seymore duncan pj pickuos in, although I'm hesring I may need to put a better eq in to get the most out of them. It is not able to be intonated messed around with the bridge but cant get it. What replacements can I get, I.e. bridge, eq and pots? Also do you know if the necks on these are any good say if I do a truss rod adjustment and fret level because it has some buzz ?
Scars and scratches on a used guitar are LOVE MARKS!
