Heard CFh no vocals... Darrell there's your logo, they almost changed the band name to Cowboys From Hell
I don't really hear it, tbh. I love Rhoads, but he never really incorporated so many harmonics like dime did. I can't think of a single Rhoads solo that this sounds very similar to.
TeeEighchSee really? Maybe have another listen to Diary of a Madman and re-examine. I'm talking about the entire song, btw; rhythm guitars and all. The entire song has a Randy-era Ozzy feel to it. Randy didn't use the vibrato bar as much as Darrell (and who the hell did?), but he certainly used it often; Over the Mountain, Mr. Crowley, Steal Away the Night, etc.
I can't emphasize the epicness of this solo enough!!! 2+ mins long with a mini bridge, it's damn near its own song. Dimebag made that guitar sing like Pink Floyd did back in the day.
Agreed... besides being an ass kicker, Dime's tone on this is just perfect. Having just heard The Sleep (for the thousandth time) on my Pandora station yesterday it was on my mind. Heard and old Floyd song in my truck today and remembered this comment. Great comparison.
OMG a 2+ min solo!!! When I saw Zakk Wylde soloing for Ozzy he did like a full on 10 min+ solo. I'm a bigger Dime fan than Zakk, but don't pretend that length means anything. Jimi just soloed songs start to finish, as did many others. I suppose you've never listened to Rory Gallagher or Stevie Ray Vaughan. Don't get me wrong, Dime is god, just don't pretend solo length means anything, or next thing you'll be telling me Yngwie is cool.
this solo is... haunting, i get chills every time i listen to it... makes me all emotional. and that's the reason i love dime so much he evoked emotions from what is considered "hateful" music amazing
i cry everytime when i hear that song. damn. i've never seen them on concert. And their CDs it's all what we have now. Fuck, i need a time machine, i want a time machine.
Exact here hearing this or floods makes me tear up. my biggest influence on guitar and personality. dime was godlike at guitar but also had humble personality. sucks i never seen pantera live.
All of those influences created the ultimate guitar player which is DIMEBAG. Its going to be a long time if it even happens until we come across a guitar player that is at Dimebags level. He was just so technical with his playing. Like Zack wylde said at first your watching his guitar playing and then you find yourself just watching him. Hopefully that made sense hahahahaha. R.I.P. DIMEBAG AND VINNIE
Greatest solo ever written. It’s construction is just perfect. There’s no wasted notes and every note matters and all fit together like a glove. There are so very few like it where I’m just captivated from beginning to end. It truly does tell a story. It just grabs you and makes you feel those bends.
Bought this album in the third grade. This solo gave me goosebumps then and still to this day. My favorite lead guitarist is zakk wylde but this is and will always be my favorite solo. Period. Pure genius combined with whammy bar finesse and perfect harmonics. A true masterpiece
nah, this is the best solo, listen to that heart.....great call. all of his solos are nothgin short than epic, but this one, this one shows how much feeling you can possibly put into a single note at a time
I remember the first time I heard this solo. I couldn't believe that he wrote it. The backing riff does so much for it. It's a once in a lifetime peice.
Sounds so classical I love it. One of the best guitarist to live. From those badass riffs, acoustics, solos, and the use of the whammy bar dime was king. He help keep metal alive in the late 90s while other bands went off to make pop or country.
Makes me cry this solo as its so, so, so... full of emotion and incredible technicality. Probably one of the greatest guitarists in metal history. And in my top 3 solos of all time. Thank you so much, DD. R.I.P. :).
Always thought this was the best heavy metal solo I've ever heard. So emotional this solo. I ran into dimebag at a blockbuster video in 1997 in Arlington and I got his signature which I lost 😰 I should have said "the sleep solo is so great, how do YOU rank it against the others?" What a great guy he was.. So cool to everyone . I don't think they played this song in concert much . Maybe it was too tame compared to the other songs? This was my favorite panthers song . This song is very affecting on an emotional level for me
I've found 1 life recording of it and he kills it more for more and rec kills the backup on it and vinnie as always is damn hard on the kit.phil did too.thats why Pantera is kings over " the big 4"
Stumbled onto this video recently. Metal was my jam during middle school and high school and one day I just stopped listening. Just turned 32 and this brought great memories of my teenage years.
Jömpa definatly doesn't this solos fucking amazing and definatly one of my favorites but the floods solo just has so much soul in it it's overpowering really
Love everyone’s comments. Seen Dime 13 times live and I will never see another band like it. Truly some of the best times in my teens and 20’s. Legend!!
This masterful beast of a solo! The wails, the harmonics, it’s absolutely brilliant, always mind blowing, hands down best axeman of my generation and life. These pieces are gifts from a legend, with age they hit different. It’s not the same without him either. RIP DIME and VIN! Thanks brothers!!
I Saw them in 1991 opening for judas priest on Madrid. No one knew who were them at the time. Next day i brought cowboys from hell on vinyl wich i still keep as the treasure It is. Makes me feel proud. March 1991 i became one if their first fans worldwide. No words to describe this solo. Since Dimebag no better guitarist has been born yet. Rest in peace brother.
The fact that the guitar solo has its own video says it all.
