I cry when I listen to this song. Because when I was 7 yrs old my dad passed away in cancer and we played two Pantera songs on his funeral this song and cemetary gates. Love you dad keep ROCKING in heaven F CANCER!
I think Phil said once in an interview that he thought Black Sabbath could play any kind of music they wanted. So instead of Pantera covering one of their heavy songs (as it should be expected), they did the opposite, and covered Planet Caravan. Correct me if I'm wrong. It is a great cover nonetheless.
+moreblack Don't forget their cover of Electric Funeral. That one was bad ass. Their cover of Planet caravan, however, is flawless. Just perfect. 11/10.
@@davewalters6214wrong, Dime is way better and does 10x better on the solo. Dime is a far better guitarist and it doesn’t take a genius to recognize that.

Back as a teen i was in a really low place. Pantera helped my confidence, self-image, creativity, and my mental health so much. This song especially brought a bit of peace to me everytime I'd listen to it. The first time I heard it I was in some kind of a trance, it caught me completely off guard and for the first time I've felt the anxiety letting go off my chest. At one point it was even kind of a lullaby to me. To say Pantera saved me would be an understatement. Never thought a group of people I'd never met would do so much for me.
I have chronic depression and my days are up and down. Yesterday I turned on my car...this song cued up on my cd...and all problems in the world and my own melted away into oblivion. I physically just melted. Life seemed beautiful again.

Pantera repeatedly impressed me. As an enormous Black Sabbath fan I believed this song was one of a kind. That only BS could write and perform. Pantera delivered in such a way that Ive not heard in any other "cover" from any other bands. I absolutely love this song from both bands. That said, Pantera presented this cover in such a way that pays homage to the band that wrote it BUT shined Pantera's sound through as well. That is so very difficult to do and have it be nearly better than the original. This tune is truly beautiful. Coming from a band that normally delivers sound in such a way that strikes you between the eyes. Only with this one it was a strike deep into the soul and heart. Unlike most Pantera fans, I wasnt immediately a huge fan of them. Ive never really been one to embrace this intense and guttural growlings of some Metal bands. However, I heard this remake for the first time while on my way to report to the US Army. After nearly 20 years of playing in a original band of my own and being a huge Ozzy / Sabbath fan, I was floored by how flawless this rendition is. Pantera immediately shot up the ranks on my appreciation for their band. I have since seen them perform in Ozzfest many years back and its fair to say, Ive come to respect Pantera as one of the Greatest Metal bands of all time. Kudos to this remake.
Perfectly said. This is a masterpiece. Maybe the best cover in metal history. A huge fan of both as well. First time I saw them they opened for sabbath in 1999.
Every time I listen to this song, at the end I turn the volume up to 100/100 in order to hear Dime's solo until the last note. I wish it were infinite, I hear notes never played... as we travel through the universe.
We sail through endless skies Stars shine like eyes The black night sighs The moon in silver trees Falls down in tears Light of the night The earth, a purple blaze Of sapphire haze In orbit always While down below the trees Bathed in cool breeze Silver starlight breaks down the night And so we pass on by the crimson eye Of great god Mars As we travel the universe

Lyrics explained by Starwatcher 23 on Songmeanings: First off, I want to say to those who find the lyrics hard to make out: that is intentional. The nature of the vocals is meant to invoke the speech of aliens. The song is about a fleet of alien ships that travel through the universe, looking for others who are ready to do the same. The song explains that they have just discovered Earth, but they bypass it. Why? There a couple of hints as to why: first, the moonlight is describes as falling down like tears, invoking sorrow. The second and most important clue comes from the lines, "And so we pass on by the crimson eye - Of great god mars". Mars is described not as a planet but as a god, and if you know your Roman mythology, you will know that Mars was the god of war. Hence, humanity, which is still embroiled in war, is not yet ready to receive the amazing gift of advanced technology which would allow them to join the fleet of universal explorers, the planet caravan. The aliens are saddened by this, because of the distance they've traveled, only to find a species not yet evolved enough to join them. It is a sad, chilling and beautiful anti-war song.
+Salar Alehossein the humanity needs to be reconnect with nature rather than lust for power, reputation and conquer that brings chaos, destruction and death
+Salar Alehossein This is really thoughtful.. if it wasn't wrong. Geezer Butler said it was about traveling through the universe with one's lover, but I guess people can interpret it a different way.
I remember Pantera playing this before going on once and everyone was chill and relaxed in the pit. People raised their lighters and some were swaying. Then "Suicide Note, Pt. 2" followed and the world exploded into elbows, fists, blood, spit, and unbridled chaos.
Who thinks so?? :DDD If anything nowadays they embrace them because they are probaply reason for half of the people who every year decides to start learning to play guitar. They are poster boys for guitar companies. Can you name some folk artists signature guitar line? How many of those guitarist who even has signature model is from outside rock/metal genre? There has to be some but i would still claim that they are few & far. Gibson, Fender & other guitar manufacturers know that its bad business to design a model for some popper or experimental styled guitarists, they may sell more records than Dimebag but they dont produce or inspirate people to start playing guitar like guys like Dime does. Guitar as an instrument is forever tied and first associated as instrument for rock musicians. When you mention guitar no one first thinks aahhh instrument of very skilled spanish flamingo players. Everyone pictures a long haired guy on a stage doing solo. Guitar more than any instrument is allmost synanomous with rock.
One of the ultimate faithful cover versions. Mind messaging lyrics, soul mesmerizing instrumentals, unearthly evocative vocals, Otherworldly hypnotic music video visuals.

I find to love both Sabbath's and Pantera's version of this song. Sabbath's version gives off a mellow feeling of ease and content, not caring what happens during your course of outer space and into the great unknown while Pantera's version sounds more angry and tiring as if a soldier from a far future war lays in a field being one of the feel people left alive in a bloody battle only to contemplate the meaning of all of this destruction and suffering.
As Pantera played this on the 2023 tour. In my city the moon was shiny directly down on the stage. With the Sandia Mountains in the background. I sparked up a super joint and held my beer up and slowly drank it for all the other people who could be at the show
+Cobain Fan Est 2002 - I wouldn't be surprised if half or more of the musical artist that I listen to are by racist. Black or White. In the end the only thing that really matters is if their music sounds good. And if you don't get attacked when you go to a concert.
Dave-O You mean an acoustic electric guitar which is simply acoustic with one pickup and plugged into an amp .I have seen the actual guitar that was used it is an acoustic .
Because our favorite band we treasure is gone. No chance at ever seeing them again. I unfortunately did not have the privilege of catching a pantera show as I was a kid. My dad did though. One thing I truly dislike is how it all went down. That's one thing I want but can't have.
2013, grandmother passed away on 11th oct, came back to my home on 27th Oct from her native, turned on VH1 and somebody had asked to play Pantera's Cowboys From Hell on VH1 playlist and that's how I discovered this band. Don't know who it was but Thank You 🤘🤘 Sail through endless skies Dime and Vinnie ❤️.

I dropped to my knees in my doorway, balling like a baby... it changed my life n made me very very sad for a while n the shock lasted a lot longer. As a muscian myself it hit home for me as they were a very big impression on me and my playing, Love you DIME, Love you VINNIE...... we miss you n we will never forget!!! ever.!!!
This is one of those covers that are better than the original. Spectacular. Specially Dime's solo. Lightning fast, sharp and clean. No mistakes. I could listen to that solo go on and on for hours
pariskotsaros I know it's a nice cover, but "nothing compares to the original" is because cover is a tribute to original. Even though Pantera is fucking Pantera.
okay then check out the solo on Cemetery Gates. Then say something about Dime. The end solo was all Dime on this song "Planet Caravan" BTW all opinions do count, this is just mine. Have a Nice Day :P
Remember watching this video when i was a teen and also being fascinated by space at the time. So the idea of a panspermia with plants across space was the coolest.
Caravana Planetária Nós viajamos Por céus infinitos As estrelas brilham como olhos Suspira a escura noite A lua Em árvores cor de prata Cai em lágrimas A luz da noite A terra Uma chama púrpura Da neblina cor de safira Sempre em órbita Enquanto em baixo Sob as árvores Banhada em uma brisa fresca A luz cor de prata das estrelas apaga a noite E então Nós passamos Pelo olho carmesim Do grande Deus Marte Enquanto viajamos Pelo universo
This is one of those rare instances where I prefer the cover version of a song over the original, Pantera totally nailed Black Sabbath's song in this case. Absolutely love this song, Pantera did it best.
Yea, Pantera's Version has more element. However Black Sabbath's is not so bad either, it has a catch to it too. It's just made in different times and what appealed to the listener.
This is a great cover, but Sabbath's was better. More delicate, subtle and haunting. Pantera's version keeps your feet on the ground. Sabbath's takes you up into the stars.

Vulgar Display of Power and Far Beyond Driven are two of the best hard-hitting metal albums of the 1990's, and they both end with epic slower tracks! VDP has "Hollow" which starts slow and sad but turns more aggressive towards the end, then FBD has this amazing cover which is straight up trippy and arguably better than the original!

+Salar Alehossein the humanity needs to be reconnect with nature rather than lust for power, reputation and conquer that brings chaos, destruction and death
wow that's an amazing explanation
thanks really valuable info always wondered what this song is about
+Salar Alehossein This is really thoughtful.. if it wasn't wrong.
RIP Vinnie Paul. May you jam eternally with your brother. And May all your demons finally be laid to rest.
For all the people who think metal players don't have any real talent...listen to this solo. Brilliant!!
Sabbath wrote this in 1970. One of the few bands capable enough to do the original justice. Thank you Dime and Vinnie for everything.
One of the ultimate faithful cover versions.
Mind messaging lyrics, soul mesmerizing instrumentals, unearthly evocative vocals,
Otherworldly hypnotic music video visuals.
2:33-3:48 is one of the GREATEST guitar solos that will ever exist. I get chills every single I listen to it, RIP Dimebag Darrell
I had to learn it after I heard it
The original is the Black Sabbath
Uwielbiam ten kawałek❤Jak byłam mała to zasypiałam przy nim😴mój brat przewijał go na kasecie📼 i włączał milion razy.
I love this piece❤ When I was little I used to fall asleep with it😴 my brother rewound it on the cassette📼 and turned it on a million times.
Widać, że brat miał dobry gust przy wyborze kołysanki, gratuluję wyboru. :D Mam po dziś dzień oryginalną kasetę "Far Beyond Driven" i nieraz do niej wracam, pozdrawiam
All I know is it's fucking epic 😎🤘
@@mariocooldude9092 Exactly brother 😎🤘
Beautiful song, I know its a cover but Pantera really did this song justice. Beautiful ending to an amazing album.
Nicely put
I think Pantera covered this song perfectly. A great tribute to a great band.
I get chills at silver starlight every-time..
Lisa Bates it's at 'Lite of the Night' for me...
the chills are you coming off heroin for a week straight
If I knew my time on Earth was almost up, I’d get this tune playing on a stereo, volume full blast, and pressing PLAY as I drift on to the other side.
I have never heard such a great song... it brings me so much ... so many good feelings. I ADORE!
One of if not the best cover I've HEARD just shows the immense talent of Pantera
Such a beautiful voice
Valarie Close Phil did them proud
Ahhh, 90's CGI makes me nostalgic...so does this song.
As Pantera played this on the 2023 tour. In my city the moon was shiny directly down on the stage. With the Sandia Mountains in the background. I sparked up a super joint and held my beer up and slowly drank it for all the other people who could be at the show
Phil is a multi-talent. Period!!!!
+Tag Traum hell ya he can scream in "this love" and do a song like this? pure talent :) rip dimebag:)
+Tag Traum hell ya he can scream in "this love" and do a song like this? pure talent :) rip dimebag:)
+Cobain Fan Est 2002 how is he racist?
+Cobain Fan Est 2002 - I wouldn't be surprised if half or more of the musical artist that I listen to are by racist. Black or White. In the end the only thing that really matters is if their music sounds good. And if you don't get attacked when you go to a concert.
FatGirl Anxiety that's where you're wrong. Extremely wrong as a matter of fact
One of the greatest solos ever
he's playing an electric
Dave-O You mean an acoustic electric guitar which is simply acoustic with one pickup and plugged into an amp .I have seen the actual guitar that was used it is an acoustic .
hmmm... interesting. it doesn't sound like an acoustic, even one with a pickup, but if you say you've seen the guitar then i defer to you.
Dave-O The guitar was in a pantera video ,im trying to find which video
acoustic guitar on rhythm and an electric on the lead.
Rest easy Vinnie! A truly gifted drummer.
People who say that Phil can only scream should listen to this song. He's more talented vocalist than some people see him.
Phil (everybody) does just an exquisite job on this. Forever loved and missed this band.
Simply a beautiful song of art pure music much love ❤️🤘🥹rock on
just close your eyes and feel magic...
What a perfect way to end one of the heaviest albums ever. Peace after the storm
This will always be my favorite song. I want to hear it at the end of my life
Which part of this 🌎 do you live in?
Brazil@@droppin_sik_beets
Perfect way to end far beyond driven
somehow it holds my heart and rips the insides
Because our favorite band we treasure is gone. No chance at ever seeing them again. I unfortunately did not have the privilege of catching a pantera show as I was a kid. My dad did though. One thing I truly dislike is how it all went down. That's one thing I want but can't have.
Certain songs give life meaning. This is one of those songs.
R.I.P Dimebag Darrell......
the Brothers....sounding tighter than ever here... this tune pulled me into the PANTERA TERRAIN....
Jason Jobb
2013, grandmother passed away on 11th oct, came back to my home on 27th Oct from her native, turned on VH1 and somebody had asked to play Pantera's Cowboys From Hell on VH1 playlist and that's how I discovered this band. Don't know who it was but Thank You 🤘🤘
Sail through endless skies Dime and Vinnie ❤️.
I miss these guys, Im still so very brokenhearted that the Abbotts are gone.......sometimes I still cry, its so not fair, why why why did they have to be taken from us....... there will never ever be a duo like the Abotts in my life time. Was leaving for work when it came over the TV in the morning with Katie Curick. I dropped to my knees in my doorway, balling like a baby... it changed my life n made me very very sad for a while n the shock lasted a lot longer. As a muscian myself it hit home for me as they were a very big impression on me and my playing,
Love you DIME, Love you VINNIE...... we miss you n we will never forget!!! ever.!!!
Music that makes your soul move🤘🏽😊
This is one of those covers that are better than the original. Spectacular. Specially Dime's solo. Lightning fast, sharp and clean. No mistakes. I could listen to that solo go on and on for hours
Nothing compares to the original
00744SSS This one does. Even though Sabbath is fuckin Sabbath
pariskotsaros I know it's a nice cover, but "nothing compares to the original" is because cover is a tribute to original. Even though Pantera is fucking Pantera.
Tell Jimi Hendrix on his cover of Bob Dylan's All Along the Watchtower. Dylan himself said Hendrix's version is better than the original
just as good
A classic that always takes u back in time
Thanks pantera from existing .. Will never get old.. one of the best bands ever
Dime sure did nail that solo God Damn!! Rest in Peace Bro
one of the greatest solos ive ever heard. dime was a fucking god! cheers bro.
It's Tony Iommi solo, Dime add some improvisation nothing more.
okay then check out the solo on Cemetery Gates. Then say something about Dime.
The end solo was all Dime on this song "Planet Caravan" BTW all opinions do count, this is just mine. Have a Nice Day :P
RIP Vinnie Paul...sail through the endless skies with Dime
One of the best covers of a classic song..
Remember watching this video when i was a teen and also being fascinated by space at the time. So the idea of a panspermia with plants across space was the coolest.
The song is from Heaven 👌👌🙌🙌
The poetry Is speechless
Dime and Vinnie 2 Angels came and gone too soon
Caravana Planetária
Nós viajamos
Por céus infinitos
As estrelas brilham como olhos
Suspira a escura noite
A lua
Em árvores cor de prata
Cai em lágrimas
A luz da noite
A terra
Uma chama púrpura
Da neblina cor de safira
Sempre em órbita
Enquanto em baixo
Sob as árvores
Banhada em uma brisa fresca
A luz cor de prata das estrelas apaga a noite
E então
Nós passamos
Pelo olho carmesim
Do grande Deus Marte
Enquanto viajamos
Pelo universo
Obrigado Teixeira!

Rest in paradise dad. This song will forever be what keeps me going. I can’t help but cry every time I hear it.
Still sooooo good even in 2024.
We miss you Dimebag, and Vinnie, we miss you.
Arise, Chickun I would prefer the original Black Sabbath version,
but Pantera did a pretty decent job oncovering this song :) oh, and /)
This is a great cover, but Sabbath's was better. More delicate, subtle and haunting. Pantera's version keeps your feet on the ground. Sabbath's takes you up into the stars.
You heard Type O Negative's cover of Summer Breeze? Oh man that is one of the best covers I've ever heard in my life it's utterly amazing
and...... have a great night
I heard this on Headbangers Ball on mtv 2 in 2009, I’d never felt something so vulnerable in my life.
There's something about this animation that screams 'windows 98'
Biosphere game maybe?\
Windows 94 :P
I had it on disc for Win98 myself. This sorta reminds me of it?...
not that there's anything wrong with that
woah v a p o u r w a v e
We sail through endless skies
stars shine like eyes
the black night sighs
The moon in silver trees
falls down in tears
light of the night
The earth, a purple blaze
of sapphire haze
in orbit always
While down below the trees
bathed in cool breeze
silver starlight breaks down the night
And so we pass on by the crimson eye
of great god Mars
as we travel the universe
Thanm you lol
11 years ago, warm summer night, comin back home after random party, drunk, lighting up a cigarette, and this song on headphones. How i would love to come back there...
Rest in Power Vinnie Paul !! :(
Better that the orginal in my opinion. I used to listen to this song to fall asleep, so peaceful, for a few minutes...no more worries
Yes wasnt into.pantera but gotta give them their due in this one fly high dd 1966 brother
🤘
This is the best version of this song; Pantera nailed it.. Phil has a good voice. I like him right up there with Lane Stanley and Chris Cornell.
Ohh those days. Pantera was so true. Big fan. I saw them 98 in santiago. I was 16-17.
This sounds like it could of been in alice In chains's album jar of flies
bangasou12 True af..... Love both bands
If only layne was still alive to cover it. Damn that wouldve been a good cover if layne did it
Hit the nail on the head
Definitely reminds me of nutshell
spot on.
Hardest song off of FBD is strength beyond strength.
Cowboys From Hell was good too all of Panteras albums in the 90s were awesome my older brother got to see them 4 times in the mid 90s out of all the bands he seen he said Pantera always put on the best shows
Almost 30 beer years later & still one of the tightest covers ever!!! 🤘🌏🤘
