  • In this video I am rolling with Turk or as I call him Turk 182(movie reference). He is Billy the giant white belts brother, a fitness competitor and all around swell fella. In this video I try and show the best way to roll with a new white belt.

There's a Blackbelt in my gym that teaches me just like this when we are drilling. As a 2 month white belt these type of guys are a gem to have in your bjj gym.

You are lucky! I had some mentors over the years as well. They are key

When you are feeling down about whether or not you’re improving always look to the brand new student. Thank you and respect

Hello, i'm absolutely brand new to this sport. I have just taken my first two classes today and yesterday, and i've been loving it so far. I happened across your channel when I was looking at general BJJ content and just wanted to say I love your videos! You're very instructive but with a super chill, amicable tone. It must be a treat for these newbies to roll with you and just learn. Thanks for the content!

As someone only about 5 months past him, on the one hand I see how far I've come, but also, how I have a lot of work to still do on the basics. It's good to remind ourselves of the essential principles and worry about those before we get concerned over buggy chokes and reverse de la riva. Great video as always!

Great ambassador for the sport and the culture of the gym.
We all know BJJ "works". Especially against people who don't train and "don't know what to do".
No need to relentlessly "smash" like you're looking for a highlight reel.

Thank you Stuart. For me that is the highest compliment. I never understood the relentless smashers. Yet that was how it was when I began. Respect sir.

@4:48 "don't submit them one hundred ways from Sunday"
I am only about 9 months in, and I do really like this philosophy but man I find it difficult against the bigger super new guys who often over power me significantly and want to go berserk.
I've started to just try and keep myself safe against them without using a lot of energy, but I usually just get pinned for most of the roll.

Even so just learn to control them. The submission is the cherry on top.

great video as always, Anthony, the way you teach explains root fundamentals in practice. You masterfully isolated a specific fundamental concept in BJJ (e. g. keeping flat back in side control) and allowed the trainee to experience what that specific scenario feels like. Props to Turk 182 for having the right mentality!
