- This 1959 Volvo 544 stands us zero dollars. We sold the other one we had for the same price we bought it for and got this one on top of the deal, for nothing. The owner seemed to think this red one needed a lot more work than the one we sold him so we’re going to dive into and see what kind of condition it’s in….

This was the most highly entertaining episode. Loved the "interview" of Doug, loved the banter. I've never given money to a youtube channel, but if someone started a little fund for Doug and his son to do some traveling, I'd donate to that. I just watched the latest episode from Vice Grip Garage starting off where he pulled the old truck from the bushes ending the video where he is driving it around all cleaned up, shiny and fixed. All edited to fit into one episode. Showing the "how to'" details of how he is doing things and what he is using along the way but without wasting the viewers time. So much more rewarding to watch. No wonder he has more than 6 times the number of subscribers

The 1959 Volvo 544 is in better shape than I thought. It'll be interesting to see what Chad and Jolene have planned for the old Coupe. Chad's interview with Doug was entertaining. Nate , Doug and Chad are the best of friends . Like a lot of Canning Mountain Men do is to kick back on the weekend and have a few beers and share some stories and laughs.. .
Plan is start cutting it up, weld it up, then start another car.
What happened to the other car? Very disappointing.

That's my point if you know what I' trying to tell you. Nothing wrong with being cheap. Shall I mention the carpet he supposedly paid $ and was so flabergasted about for that car? Point #2: Ol' Chaddie coulda made a template of the '50 Merc floor (like he does for everything else) and bought some cheap, chartreuse remnant at some local Canadian carpet outlet and cut it up himself. It's like that is out of his realm, but for a legit car customizer, interior work is part of the process. Chad is just the fastest, charlatan 'one trick pony' customizer.

Oscillating tool with the scraper attachment works great! I use it to remove seam sealer!

Hey Chad, the last time you played with a Volvo it ended up the basis of the Bugatti for Jolene. I wonder what rabbit hole awaits this one.
When have to remove stuff like that stuck to the metal, or undercoating, etc., you'll have a much easier time removing it if you cover the area with dry ice. Let it freeze up nicely then it'll come off in pieces without ton or scraping.

Another project that won’t be finished
Like this channel needed another work in progress. WTF.
Space the front and rear fenders out 4"and and lower car 2". Put some serious tires on widened steel wheels with hubcaps. You have all the gear to widen the wheels. Don't touch the body! Slip a stock V8 with an auto under the hood.
Color is good but maybe black out the windows. Simple Roll bar to stiffen things up after you install a real motor. 3"exhaust out of the fenders (top or side). Hide the mufflers aft of the front wheels mounted vertical.
Fenders are a piece of cake to widen.
Paint the chrome and widen both bumpers.
If you widened the fenders you could put louvers in the spacer to vent brakes or use the lower rubber bits shape to make a brake duct in the same shape. Paint the inside black.
F that Volvo , try to stay on something . None of us out here want to see that car , not watching any video on the Volvo ! ! !

that sound deadenner material you need heat gun n scraper...but most times therye so well made the glue under never lets rus set in. inspect floor from under n you should see nothing bad

Try using paint thinner to dissolve the glue under the foam and sound deadening material
Widen the finders and put wide tires on. Then put a 289 Ford motor with a 4 speed trans.

Idea for the Volvo: raise the front fenders up to the same level as the hood. Then adjust the rear fenders to get a nice line from front to back?

In 1964, FIVE of us had to ride in one of these from KS to California in the middle of summer....I remember going thru Needles, CA and it was 119 degrees...of course no A/C.
The 544’s weren’t built for luxury like doug said but, they were a very good handling vehicle and were really quite comfortable to ride in.👍👍🇨🇦
Don't worry. Chad will take the value right out of it and make it ergonomically uncomfortable to drive if it ever gets beyond chop stage. No doubt in my mind if I'm being perfectly honest with you.
Half the cars will never pass a Legal Canadian Mechanical Saftey with zframes scabbed in and none licenced mechanic fabricating his own design on fron end steering and suspension. Lets face it working with out squqring stuff. Not using a tape messure , ,and you dont have a structural frame ticket to say your qualified to repair or redesign a car frame . .its a show piece sure ,should they be driven on a public road way No !
