  • Is Christianity just an absurd religion? Why does God need to die to pay for sins? Surely, there could have been a better way.

You have understood God more than any pastor out there.
But God is also Father , A Father will rebuke and Chasen His children to teach them and make them walk in the right direction because He loves us.
Imagine you being a father of a child who does wrong with his friends and you punish that child because the child did something wrong , wouldn't you punish your child first.
God judge His children before judging the children of the world. But when God will only make us carry a burden which we can carry ( God is a father who knows how much we can carry) but when He judges the children of the world the burden might be heavy for their own strength.

The Christian god is not loving. He is the most abusive boyfriend character known to man.
How can a god who is said to be loving, actually be loving when if you dont reciprocate that love he punishes you by having you burn eternally?
Imagine if I had a girlfriend, and she said that she loved me, but if I didnt love her back she was going to break into my house and dislocate my shoulder, waterboard me, and then break my feet...that's abusive right? So how is it any different then god burning you eternally, for ever. Billions upon trillions of years, no escape. How is that love?

@@benclark4823God created hell not for humans, but for some of His own perfect and sinless angels who have decided to become sinful. Anything related to sin is repulsive to God, just like how two of the same signs of a magnet repulse one another. It just so happens that humans too decided to stray away from Him as well and fall into the pits of hell by covering themselves with sin like pigs being covered by mud. This is why He sent His only son to take away the punishment of sins of humanity so that they get washed by the blood of Christ, your only task in return is to accept that gift because God will not force you against your own will. To me, it makes perfect sense for God to throw sinners into the pits of hell, not because He hates them of course (He loves us all), He just cannot stand with unwashed sin and wants no one to go to hell which is why He sent Jesus Christ on Earth to die for us, and well even with that some people refuse to accept His love.. so as an act of love, even against His own will, He accepts your rebellious request by sending you in a place that has no God, because this is what a sinner always wanted, this is how they lived their life, living and acting like they did everything in life and that God doesn't exist, so all God does isn't punishing the sinner but instead fulfilling the sinners' request out of love and respect for the sinners' own decisions that they have made by not accepting the gift of Christ and send them to a God-less place. Now if you complain that the place He sends them is cruel, I find that obvious, life cannot move on and live without God, obviously a place where the appearance of God is absent isn't going to be all sunshine and rainbows. You're not gonna kick your rude and narcisstic neighbour out of your dinner table after inviting them at your home and then go right at them and give them food when they don't even want to be with you and don't respect you, would you?
There's a reason why this religion isn't dead, I've heard the same question asked like a dozen times already and well I'm sure that question was asked thousands of times way before you and I were ever born in this world. God has given you the free will of either choosing to accept His gift, or refusing it and getting what you want instead, but one shouldn't always trust themselves (you know how the saying goes "you can be your worst enemy") so it is better to put your trust in God's perfect plan, but that's up to you. I pray that you find the answers to all of your questions 🙏

@@carlcool20 People do not go to hell because of their so called “choices”, it’s your god “chooses” to send them there.
I’ve often seen Christians argue that god is not to blame for hell. They say: “god doesn’t send people to hell, their choices do.” This is an obvious cop out, and people saying this are treating (more like forgetting) god as if he isn’t all powerful and doesn’t have free will.
If people go to hell because of their actions (or beliefs), we must ask why? Who is the cause of this situation? It is god. If god created everything in the universe, and god decides everything that happens in the universe, the he set the condition that people who do not believe in him go to hell.
He chose, actively chose, that unbelieving souls would not merely go to some kind of prison without being tortured, or be annihilated. He specifically picked that hell will be a place of eternal torment. He wanted that pain and suffering. If it were against his will it would not happen.
Even if god did not create hell and make it the kind of place it is, given that he is omnipotent, he could choose not to let souls go there, and put them in a different place. Hell only continues to exist because god, in some way shape or form, desires it to. If he did not want it, he could easily put an end to it. If god chooses to be a bystander when he could intervene, then he is at fault for hell.
Whether or not hell is a fair punishment is an entirely different argument. But, fair or not, we must acknowledge that God is the ultimate cause of souls going to hell.
      Eternal hell is unjust.
Even the most evil of humans who walked on earth don't deserve it because it goes beyond punishment they deserve. The concept of eternal punishment surpasses any notion of fair or just retribution. Instead, an alternative approach could be considered, such as rehabilitation or a finite period of punishment proportional to their actions, what does it even do if they have a never ending torment.
The fact that you go to hell for all eternity means that God doesn't believe in rehabilitation.
Let's say you are a horrible person. You tortured many people, you killed some of them and you never kept the door open for someone. This doesn't mean you can't change after death. I agree that you have to be punished, but eternity is a couple of years too much. During our lifetime we can forgive someone if we see genuine remorse for quite a lot. From my point of view the fact that you go to hell for all eternity means that you will not change after death and that you can't evolve in the afterlife. Which is a scary thought by itself. I think this idea makes God appear as a deity which is not moral. And also makes the whole argument that religion is moral a whole lot weaker.
The notion that someone would be condemned solely based on their lack of belief in a particular faith raises questions many people who belive in a religion were raised that way and were told if they question otherwise they will go to hell forever, so it sounds odd if they are wrong God will just send them an everlasting torment.
Even a 1000 Quadrillion decillion years in hell would make more sense in comparison even though it's still messed up but it's still finite and would have some sort of meaning rather than actually never ending.
The idea that one's life can be summed up in a moral balance sheet or that a couple actions could trump all your others and get you into heaven or hell is patently absurd. No great “”all-loving”” being could possibly devise a just moral system where a finite set of actions could lead to only two options: [eternal bliss] or [eternal torture]. There is no proportionality per heaven and hell both in terms of the requirements to get in and the very nature of everlasting reward or punishment.

An infinite, thrice holy God found me through time and loved me, my ancestors, and my descendants enough to die and give himself as a sacrifice to alone for the things I had yet done just to give me the chance to know him. He knew I could reject him. He knew I would disappoint him, and yet he still gave himself fully for me. Are they any other believers that still find the gospel both bitter and sweet and sufficient for them today?

@@NickNameMatters -- Face it, religion LIED to all of us. I too was a Brainwashed christian for the first 30 years of my Life. Then, I wanted to get "Closer" to our "lord and savior", so I did something Radical... something too few believers do... I actually READ the bibles. During the first reading, and from the very first page, I was Shocked!! There are way too many Contradictions, Errors, and EVIL in there done by and commanded by that claimed "All loving" god. But... I was a believer, so I too did the Pro Style gymnastics and made the all Excuses.
But by the end, I was tired of having to make so many Excuses for a claimed "Perfect and Flawless" being!
So I told myself I would read it a 2nd Time, but that time with an Open Mind, not a brainwashed one, and ask ALL the tough questions that I refused to ask during that 1st reading. Best thing I ever did! I asked all the tough questions I refused to do during that first reading. I did the research. I ... was... Shocked. But as I've always said = I want my beliefs to be based on the Facts, Logic, and Common Sense! So after that 2nd reading and the research, I was turned Atheist. All that means is = I see ZERO Proof of ANY god, so I simply do NOT believe in any god. That is ALL it means. Nothing else.
I ask you: Have you read the bibles? Most never do. Instead, they go to their place of worship and have the nice handpicked parts read TO them. Then they Blindly believe.
If you have read it, did you do so with an Open Mind? Be honest. Most believers START with the Conclusion. I know I did back when I believed. You should NEVER start with the Conclusion.
Do yourself a huge favor and read it with an Open Mind. Do the research. Ask all the tough questions. Remember: “The Truth is made stronger by questions; only Lies and Errors are weakened by them.” You will be shocked.
Those stories are nothing more than Plagiarized stories used to CONTROL people. Religions and belief in gods were started by con artists for Power. They have actually convinced people that the best way to believe... is with BLIND Faith!! They have convinced people that the LESS Real Evidence for their god, the better = "... for blessed are those that have not seen, yet believe..".
Honestly, take a step back and think of what your beliefs are based on. Had you and I been born in a Muslim country, we'd have been praising allah!! Had we been born in different time, we'd be praising Zues!!!

I am amazed at those who claim God, in sacrificing His son, Jesus is guilty of mistreatment of a child. Since Jesus is (not was) God, that isn't even close to the truth. As pointed out in the video, the Mosaic Law demanded 'blood for blood' as a response to sin.
Then, consider the fact that of all the religions on earth - in all of creation we know - Christianity is the ONLY one to have a free way out of sin. All others demand adherence to a certain code of conduct, so many push ups, or self flagellation.
The only one where God has provided a way to escape. I suppose that is absurd to those who insist on making their own way.

I am not a devout Christian tho I am a devout student of knowledge.
In both science , philosophy, religion and anything of value on this realm we inhabit.
Currently I am attempting to study the beliefs and practices of the first Christian’s. The Jewish Christians that witnessed and professed their accounts and those who attempted to uphold those accounts up to and through the first century after the death and resurrection of Christ.
I’m curious if you have read the book
Unity and Diversity in the New Testament
    James D.G Dunn
If you have, what are your thoughts on it and the potential accounts of the earliest Christian’s in that Jesus was a profit of God and was resurrected as so.
Not as a divine man but as close as 1 could be in the flesh. The actual Jewish messiah.
In this book it speaks on James’s issues with Paul’s account.
I’m very much interested in scholarly accounts and discussions on the earliest Christian’s pre the Church.
As in the Ebionites as such.

But His love was far greater than parental love. It was indescribable. It was almost physically overwhelming. And He revealed to me things that I never knew, as I had never truly studied the Bible, such as that we must love Him more than our own parents, and that the true reason we help people on Earth is to glorify His name. Please pray with true intentions in your heart. I hope you find Him. Best of luck.

I watched a video a few days ago by David Wood, where he addressed this issue from a different direction. He noted how in ancient days, the pagans believed that the way to curry favor with God was to sacrifice what was most precious to them, culminating with sacrificing their children to Moloch. Then along comes Abraham, and God tells him to sacrifice his only son to Him. Same story, or so it would seem. But at the last minute, God tells him to stop, and says that He Himself will provide a sacrificial Lamb. In other words, God doesn't want us sacrificing our sons to Him; He sacrificed His Son for us instead. He flipped the understanding of the ancient pagans on its head.

@@SoRunThatYeMayObtain - I don’t believe that it is obvious. The 3rd Century theologian Origen developed a way of understanding the Scriptures. He perceived that not all parts of the Bible should be understood the same way; he distinguished between various “senses” of Scripture as literal, moral, anagogical and allegorical. The allegorical sense looks beyond the most obvious reading to illuminate some greater spiritual truth - one story which could fall in that category is the story of Abraham’s sacrifice. While there are some Christians today who take an almost entirely literalist interpretation of the entire Bible, that is a fairly new development and is well outside how scripture was broadly understood for most of church history.
As a Christian, in the specific case of the story of Abraham and Isaac - if I’m asked if I believe it literally happened my response would be “I don’t know, and I don’t care”. Someone could provide compelling evidence either way, and it still would not impact or influence an allegorical understanding of the story.

@@SoRunThatYeMayObtain - “Seems to me” is the key phrase in your comment. Go back, reread the passages you are referencing, and ask yourself what would eliminate an allegorical interpretation.
As a non-Biblical example, I’ve listened to comparisons of Tony Stark’s sacrifice in Endgame to Christ’s sacrifice where - based solely on a written transcript of the commentary - you could not tell if the speaker honestly believed Iron Man existed. But a typical reader is going to bring outside context - it’s a movie, movies aren’t real, etc to conclude the speaker is aware Tony Stark/Iron Man are fictional characters. That’s appropriate in the case of Iron Man - but not appropriate in the context of Biblical exegesis. How are you concluding that Jesus believed Abraham literally believed the story with Issac?
It almost certainly runs into the same issue atheists point out about Jesus believing a mustard seed is the smallest seed in the world - and literalists have to create increasingly unlikely interpretations to counter atheist arguments.
The better argument is that we were given both scripture and tradition, and tradition never accepted a solely literalist interpretation. But accepting that would start many down the road of becoming Catholic, which is completely unacceptable - much better to hold fast to a newer Biblical view of literal exegesis which means atheist objections are valid.
“Seems to me” is irrelevant - how did it seem to the church, and what traditions have been passed down. If “seems to me” contradicts that - you’re wrong, plain and simple.

Let's say a CEO of a massive company is getting reports of the workers constantly dragging down the business and making the loyal workers do more work, working conditions are dropping, the sanitation of the whole place is awful, and people are bound to be fired which will result in them losing their jobs and in tern not being able to provide for their families. despite all of this the CEO is still rich, but he doesn't want them fired and want's to ensure their well being due to him they are able to pay for their families. he wants to make sure they know he cares about him by fixing up the place.
      so he can either:
      A) just hire more people to fix up the place but that will make the workers he cares about feel replaced
      or
      B) Personally come down to demote himself as a lowly janitor by cleaning the place up himself, encouraging the other workers and helping them with assignments, and showing the other workers that he cares.
God HAS to do it because he has limited himself to a just character, if he DIDN'T judge sins and suddenly forgave them by tossing away the debt, he would be unjust. however, if he paid the debt of sin, this would fit in his framework of a just character. because the entire crucifixion is a reversal of the original sin in genesis.
in conclusion, this was a act of love, justice, symbolism, and the message that god would humble himself for you.

There is a lot that could be said. But your most obvious issue is that you kept saying everyone else is on the outside when in fact they are on the inside. Supposedly we are all included in the things the god loves. Yet it is only willing to do a single act that some will recognize as love and others won't. And it knows exactly who it'll fail to reach and how to reach them. Yet it doesn't do it.

I have to begin by saying that, im not a christian.
Now that this is out of the way...
Theres a deeper meaning behind the crucifixion of Christ than most atheists come out with and i have to point out that, even many christians. Most anti or pro fanatics against or for christianity quote bible verses completely out of context for their own personal goals.
Problem with Bible is that, reading it and understanding it are two different things.
For starters, its already written in a form that is quite difficult to read and second, it mostly contains stories and to understand meaning in these stories you have to read the entire story and understand it, not to quote single verses out of it that may support your narrative!
When it comes to crucifixtion of Christ, its so much more than just ''he died for our sins''.
It depicts a story of a loving god who manifests himself in a flesh and takes part in our mortal suffering. It makes it possible for him to forgive our sins without being unjust against some other who may have been a victim of said sin as he suffered and died himself for that sin.
Anyway, wheather you whole heartedly want to believe it or not, its all up to you. Im not here with wild claims about what is right and what is wrong!

You do realize that God would rather us in heaven than in hell, right? And the only things that keep us from entering heaven is our sin. And if we try to earn our way, we will not see the gates of heaven. Rather, if you want salvation, stop working for it. Accept God's gift. God loves us so much, He gave us the option to CHOOSE a free gift. A gift that costs absolutely nothing. That is the only thing you have to do on your end, is to accept His gift, nothing more, nothing less.
Also, isn't all love about finding that significant other, anyways? If you love someone, you wish to seek them out. But with God, all the seeking you have to do is accept His gift. He made it simple for a reason.

@voltekthecyborg7898 so in other words, love me or burn forever? I'm a deist. I have no problem believing in a god or a higher power. But the way Christians describe God makes him seem like an emotionally unstable teenager. I don't believe at all that that is what God is. The concept of a creator is way too complex for our minds. It would be like an ant trying to understand quantum physics. So what we do is give this creator human characteristics and human emotion. I don't believe god is that simple. It's so much more complicated and inspiring than how we simply it.

Child: “I really feel like eating a bowl of ice cream before dinner”

Love is an emotion that isn't always rational, but does one underlying good: aims to keep those close to you at your best.
A father loves their child so much, they want to raise them to live their lives independent. For this to happen, the father teaches the child that crossing the road without looking both ways, doing narcotics, or for the younger folks: eating ice-cream after brushing your teeth, regardless of how tasty ice-cream is, are all bad choices. He can leave you sheltered, but he doesn't, he wants you raised independently, but make rational choices.
The father is God. We are His children.

In all honesty, I have belief in God as I’ve heard testimonies within my circle that they experienced his presence and even felt him in subtle ways, but I have trouble with the Bible. I have trouble with the fact that it tends to deliver messages ambiguously, to the point that there are differing interpretations on the same verses. How can a “perfect” book supposedly by the word of God can have followers with different conclusions about its content based on the denomination? I asked about Orthodoxy because that seems to have the most sound stance on biblical views based on the little research I’ve had, but even it falls short on some flaws. How am I suppose to discern from what is the most “authentic” interpretation or am I missing something? For anyone that reads, I’d love to get your insights.

    • @rizdekd3912
      @rizdekd3912 Рік тому +1

Sorry, but my insights mirror yours. The ambiguity of the gospel has led to several major religions and countless minor sects/denominations/churches. Each one claims they're the way and many of their doctrines diverge to the point of contradiction. Protestants think Roman Catholics blaspheme and Roman Catholics think Protestants blaspheme. Many Protestant denominations believe other denominations are headed the wrong way (the recent Methodist schism over homosexuality). At it's core, Christianity is simple...almost too simple. Just 'believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and those shalt be saved.' But almost NEVER does ANYONE leave it at that...not even Jesus himself who claimed many will on the last day say Lord Lord did we not cast out demons in your name and he will say to them depart from me because you did not do the will of the Father. So he seems to be saying not everyone who thinks he's a Christian will be saved. He also warns that broad is the path that leads to destruction and many will follow it but narrow is the way that leads to salvation and few will find it. SO, notwithstanding this video's assurance that there are 'so many' Christians in the world, it seem Jesus might be saying not ALL of them are actually Christians. Perhaps THIS is why Christianity is so popular today...it's a one-size fits all. At its core there are almost NO requirements except to believe one thing. Anyone can, with a thought, call himself a Christian.

Great Work again! I saw someone ask once "what type of book is the Bibble?" and I though, for the ancient ones it would have been a comedy, like the Oddisey, but after seeing this video I get it more clear, the Bibble is certaintly a love story, a story of the love of a creator for his creation. Keep it up! Despite the Suffering of the world God is always there for us.

Jesus says we are to love Him with all our hearts, souls, and minds. If you are more analytical then focus on how you were made. God has called you to love Him with your mind. Study the evidence for Christianity and know that He saved you from the sin you commit. You don't have to feel emotion to follow Christ, you have to accept you are a sinner and ask for a savior. That requires a mind to do so.

      Let me help you here.
IP vocabulary is way too doctrinary and religious and way less psychological.
To love is to care. To love is to give importance to something if not action by reaction.
I know a little about autism. You have not complete apathy for anything or anyone, you care but maybe you don't process well the info in your conscious mind. Maybe you don't know how to react neither exchange love to another but that doesnt mean that you don't mind if another dies of suffer, just don't know what to do.
Being autist, does not make you a psychopath.
As well caring for God maybe you don't get it, but lets say that is about caring for others, for truth and what is right.

    • @omnitone
      @omnitone Рік тому

@@supergastonh the thing about the caring idea is that my cares are rarely aimed towards living human beings.usually my cares are aimed toward the arts, morality, and truth. which sounds like a good description of the imago dei, but the desire to love persons and be loved is barely there. souls rarely cause me to delight. and all the delight i've got from souls is a speck compared to the delight i get from music. it's like music is alive but humans aren't. weird stuff.

Suuuuuuuch bad reasoning! If your god is all powerful and decided everything before the universe even began... then he decided to put Jesus on that cross as the price rather than... Just forgiving people. I can do that. How am I more capable than a god? An I a god? No I exist...
The tap dance is just childish. It's illogical all the way through and this attempt was just another in a long line of bad arguments to try to excuse such.

Beautifully put. Now for those that still can't let go of the objection even after the explanation: the wages of sin is death because sin is antithetical to life itself. Requiring blood to atone for sin is just metaphorical language to signify that death is necessary to atone for sin ("the life of the flesh is in the blood"). Hence, the only way to resolve the disequilibrium created by sin is through death. Death is to sin what OH- (base) is to H30+ (acid), they neutralize one another and produce H20, however without God's intervention this way of resolving the sin problem would result in losing the person who was trapped in sin. If death is necessary to resolve sin, then how can sin be resolved without losing the person trapped in sin? Is there a way for this person to experience death without actually dying? The only way is for God Himself to take on human flesh, die sinlessly on our behalf, such that we can share in His death and indeed experience death to sin, thereby being spiritually revived and cured from the spiritual disease that is sin by being reconciled to God.
That's as succinct as I can put it, which still doesn't do it justice, because the doctrine of salvation is so incredibly multi-faceted. However, the fact that the solution to such a complex and multi-dimensional problem is so simple and elegant does make it all the more ingenious and beautiful.

Then: why could Satan keep any powers, and EVER be able, to revisit heaven, in any time, or way, whatsoever, post, fully, witting, fully CONSCIOUS - and none 'inherited'... high treason, @truthmatters7573 ?
In day of Job, say. To give his silly opinion, there. After many angels became unaccountably unhappy, gullible, or confused - in heaven.
I think that might be more... beautifully put. Including to victims of Torquemada, Calvin, Pope Paul III, and others.
Or about Eden, about 'inheriting' anything from what only TWO people (semi) wittingly, choose, unaware of full implications. Nor of 'giving' Satan anything...
And also, where does Romans 8:30, Matthew 7:13, 1 Corinthians 2:14, 2 Corinthians 2:4 - and Revelations 13:8... fit into, this wider, picture, too?

"the only way to resolve the disequilibrium created by sin is through death." - but who created this rule? God did it. No matter how many rules you will put forward, they will all be created by God. Hence it always comes back to the problem that God is solving problems he himself created. It makes absolutely no sense.

    • @truthmatters7573
      @truthmatters7573 7 місяців тому

@@piotr.ziolo. it is not a rule created by God, rather it is an inherent consequence of the moral law, which itself is a reflection of God's unchanging nature. As such morality is not arbitrary and neither are the consequences of going against morality. Declaring morality to us did not create the moral law, neither did declaring the consequences of going against morality create those consequences. Those declarations are predicated on the reality of God's unchanging nature, not on an arbitrary act of will. The same goes for the rules of logic and mathematics. These are as unchanging as reality itself and are not arbitrarily decided upon, rather they are reflections of God's nature.

    • @piotr.ziolo.

@@truthmatters7573 Can you provide this logical proof that goes from the unchanging nature of God to "the only way to resolve the disequilibrium created by sin is through death."?

    • @truthmatters7573
      @truthmatters7573 7 місяців тому

@@piotr.ziolo. No, not at that level of rigor. Philosophy is best done slowly, and I don't have that time now.
However, if you believe that injustice merits punishment and justice requires the punishment of injustice, then that solves that.
You can also view it as a matter of injustice being a voluntary act of separation from God, who is also the source and sustainer of all life, meaning that your days are numbered the moment you choose to cut yourself off from God.
You can also view it as the love of God making it impossible for the inevitable suffering that results from injustice to be multiplied infinitely in the absence of some greater good being achieved through that end.
Now it's probably all of the above and possibly more. Anyway, good question, but I probably can't really help you more than this. Hope this serves as food for thought. I'm sure you should be able to see by now that your question is far from some insurmountable objection and has plausible answers, even if you are still a little fuzzy on the details.
