  • Join me on a full walkthrough of the Northern Lite 8-11 Sportsman Plus Canadream Spec truck camper. This camper comes fully equipped with a residential queen bed, huge kitchen, full wet bath, and spacious dinette. The camper along with the Ford F350 Super Duty equipped with the high output PowerStroke diesel were rented from Canadream, and I drove this combo from Vancouver to Banff National Park, putting on well over 1000 miles. I share driving impressions, fuel economy results, plus the camper's interior and exterior features. Enjoy!
    If you are curious about the trip I filmed the walkthrough on, here is the full travel VLOG, including the itinerary from Vancouver to Calgary, how much the rental cost, and how I got a major discount. Be sure to check it out!

    You did a great job on this review. I would like to see more detail on loading/unloading. You seem very honest and I feel like I would get a true opinion of how it works and if its the pain that I think it might be!! Great job.

      Thank you so much for your kind words! Although I haven't done it myself, I've seen videos and it seems very straight forward but more complex than unhitching a trailer. Thanks for watching!

    I was really surprised by everything about this truck camper experience, from the spaciousness of the camper, to the fuel economy of the Ford PowerStroke diesel. Really gives me something to think about for my retirement RV...🙃

    Great overview! My first viewing of your UA-cam Channel. I had a basic truck camper in the 1970's. Loved the ability to remove & use the truck. But, also loved the absence of hands-and-knees trailer leveling, too. Well done.

      Yes, I wish Canadream would let us take it off the truck, but I also understand why they don't. I certainly have a new respect for the heavy duty diesel pickup truck camper setup after this experience. Much appreciate your comment, thanks for watching.

    I think it's fantastic I wish that I had one. If I had a truck I would absolutely get one of those over an RV.

      Yup the truck is a barrier for sure…it’s the perfect option for someone who already has an HD truck for sure! Thanks for watching!

      I have a truck, but it's a mid-size so can't carry this weight (payload capacity). A larger SERIOUS truck (and 4x4) that can carry this weight (and even more for a decent safety margin) it outrageously expensive. So is this truck-camper.
      I'll have to pass....

    Thank you for a very thorough tour and evaluation, and especially for all the stunning scenery. What a blessing!
    Re bathroom: I will never understand why in campers/RVs with kitchens, designers waste shower/commode space with a basically useless, minuscule sink. Especially in a truck camper like this one, or all but the biggest RVs or fifth wheels, the kitchen sink is usually just a step or two away from the bathroom anyway.
    I would love a camper like this, but as a larger person I envision airplane lavatory levels of frustration and claustrophobia. I wish manufacturers would ditch the bathroom sink and give customers a little more hip/belly/elbow room.
    Thank you again. Angels on your bumpers and all around you.

    I recently purchased GMC 2500HD AT4 with Duramax; I am saving up, when truck is paid for the Northern Lite 8-11 is definitely at the top of the list, when I am ready to purchase a truck camper. Your review may have solidified the choice for me. Thanks!

    Excellent review. Kind of shocked by the fuel efficiency bing better than your car and trailer set up. Lucky enough to have a truck already so this is definitely an option for us when we downsize from our fifth wheel. Really enjoying your channel!

    It would be nice to have the toilet on a slide system that would allow more room. They need to get rid of curtains in the bathroom and use that shower door that goes into the pocket door.

      As it is, it’s functional, but I agree that it could use an update. The dry bath they offer looked awesome though, although dealers don’t seem to stock it for some reason.

      We do offer a dry bath version. The curtain is in our wet bath which is what's used by CanaDream.

    When did you film this haha? Only curious cause we were at the same campground this summer in our camper and sat looking at the ocean the first night. Couldn’t the second night since someone in a Northern Lite pulled in haha.

    Beautiful truck. Not living in the USA I’m curious about the economics of a combo like this. Would you say the average American or Canadian could afford to own a setup such as this?

    • @DayHikerFromTheSix
      @DayHikerFromTheSix  17 днів тому +2

      I think for those who own the truck as part of making their living it’s doable. And there are plenty of folks wealthy enough to do it. But I would say most folks here in Canada couldn’t afford this setup. Thanks for watching.

  • @pesto12601
    @pesto12601 16 днів тому +1

    14MPG... oh man.... and those prices... lol.. why would anyone spend $120,000 for this setup??

    • @DayHikerFromTheSix
      @DayHikerFromTheSix  11 днів тому +1

      The gas mileage compared quite favourably to towing a small trailer. Unfortunately poor fuel economy is the price of RVing, but you save on hotels, restaurant food, and you stay right in the middle of the most scenic places as a payback!

    • @pesto12601
      @pesto12601 11 днів тому +2

      @@DayHikerFromTheSix I suppose you are right.. just wish the price of entry to this type of setup was more like $60,000.... for $100,000... I'd get a well appointed class B.. and use the rest remaining 20,000 for gas seed money for a few years!

    • @kenp4464
