@@pulaski1 well that's certainly a possibility. If you're advertising something as all original though you should at least take the time to verify that.
@EarlofBaltimore Exactly. Whether the seller did the swap, or someone upstream did it, the seller's in the wrong for stating the pickups were original. If they didn't know, they needed to just say nothing....now they've inherited responsibility for the pickups whether they did it or not.
@@ryanevans371 You're making it out to be some great fraud, when it's probably someone who bought it when he was a teen, was told it was "all original" and never had the interest or curiosity to take it apart to look. Then posted it for sale, not ever having reason to doubt what he was told when he bought it.
I've been trying to find a m3 stealth, m3 h, or m4 in natural for a while now. At least one at a decent price. I love the shape and think its a really cool guitar. I played a 90s standard one in a pawn shop in St Louis 15 years ago and it always stuck with me.
All else being in good condition (and that blue is gorgeous) swapping in a set of Dirty Fingers and fixing the wiring is worth it for this guitar. Whether you ultimately keep it or not. Maybe even see if you can find someone to re-do the neck touch up so it's not so obvious.
Just return it to original specs Trog, the body is about as good as youll find from that era....unless you really want to get that picky....which it is ok to do. Up to you my man.
its probably to late for you to see this.. but as someone who has run an out of phase set of pickups. they do work very well in a professional recording and performance environment.. depending on the mix it helps pull it out of the mix. or the engineer lied to me and just put it back into phase in the mix.. lol
It looks like a refinish to me. Originals were painted over the mahogany, allowing the grain to show through, then shot with clear lacquer. Also, the floyd rose cavity should not be painted black!
Salutations Austin! I glad that you’re able to get the correct pickups to restore it back to it’s original configuration, it’s a bit of an inconvenience, plus you will likely have to take it to a reputable technician to do the re-wiring, so you will be inconvenienced for a while while that gets done, but otherwise, you will have a fairly decent representation of this guitar when it is completed. Personally, I would install a set of four conductor wire’57 Classic pickups in it, however, that would not be the correct set of pickups to restore it back to original, but they might sound really great in that guitar. The Cobalt Blue looks good on that model, I really liked the green as well. Thanks for sharing! Please have an excellent and awesome day! ☀️✨🌟🎸
Thin position 2 & 4... they probably got the polarity backwards when they replaced the humbuckers. Either reverse +/- on both HBs... or just the single/middle. Should fix it.
It’s possible the pickups are wound in reverse to the original. I dare say when you do the restorative replacements it should be fine! Love my odd-ball Gibsons
I bought mine new in 2013, I have the orange one. Mine is in much better condition than the two you have shown. I'd never sell it, as I'd been after one since the 1990's. I have changed a couple of things on it, the knobs, the truss rod cover, and it has strap locks on it now. It's a beautiful guitar, but I mainly play Strat's now, so it's a case queen. Mine also hasn't got the silkscreen Gibson logo, it's got the mother of pearl logo?
It looks like a very stretched out PRS S2 Standard 24 with a hockey stick headstock. Edit so there’s a PRS SE (or older S2) out there with Dirty Fingers pickups. 😂)
Glad you're going to keep this one Austin and put the original style pickups in it 👍. This one's inn excellent condition too. Just promise us you'll do a new video on it when you get the original pickups back in it okay?
Really pretty Cobalt Blue and maple fretboard on this 2013 M3. I like this if it skipped the Floyd Rose. Well your SE 245 pups match the Gibson esthetic at least (meant for 24.5" scale PRS models). But the swap sucks. Distorted SE pups sound ok, their weak point can be articulate cleans. Hope you review this with the proper pups in it.
You can immediately tell if the m3 reissue has dirty finger+ pickups because it is printed in gold lettering right on top of said pickups! Orange glow owner...
If it came out in 1981 it could have failed by being ahead of its time. While Jackson existed at that time, it wasn’t yet what it would become. What the MIII was copying wasn’t yet there in 81, even if elements of it were. But who knows?
dangit it looks soooooo cool, but that's all I really like about it. Red one on reverb right now for $2500 is a hard pill to swallow when there's so few out there to try.
I own a tobacco burst Les Paul Standard (1984). Gibson constructed them differently up to that year, but not sure what's unique about them. Can you offer any info on what's unique about the '84 ? Thanks.

I use to have an autographed Adrian Vandenberg Peavey back in '89 or '90 in that same color. Those were really pretty looking super strat type guitars.
I don't care if it looks like a "Majesty" still think it looks wonky. If they'd have cut the goofy lookin long horn down some on the bass side, it might have begun to look more like a Solar. (And I may have bought one) But it's OK Gibson got more money outta me this year anyway. There's only one thing I like about it: the reverse head-stock!
Someone wanted those hot Dirty FIngers pickups for another guitar, and didn't care about this one. I recently purchased a vintage Hamer Scepter (big dollar guitar) that someone had swapped Duncan Designed pickups into, because he wanted the vintage DiMarzio pickups for another guitar. Some people are unscrupulous and don't give a F about originality. (My pickup swap was disclosed, however).
I can't help it but that's a fugly guitar. sorta a mashup of an Ibanez and a Jackson. definitely not a guitar for me. when it comes to a supersrat type guitar. I'll take a Charvel any day.

Flip the leads on the middle pickup around, and you should end up in phase on the in between positions. :)

Elect’s is an easy fix.
Just reverse the leads and/or the magnet polarity of the middle p’up.
When this was wired they probably just mixed up the wire color codes causing the out of phase. Should be easy fix swapping wires on the PRS pickups.
“Cobalt blue” is a really nice colour. Quite reminiscent of Lake Placid blue in Fender World. 😊
