This is great advice. I'm very flexible and tend to hyperextend. I have a Baker's cyst from pre-yoga days behind my left knee that is not painful, but I'm almost sure came about from not being careful of this.
Oh Ester, I love this video, i practise yoga for 3 yrs already, and i am having serious knee pain, i know there is sth wrong with my legs alignment when i do the warrior, and this video is very useful for me
i think i might hurt my poor knee after the careless warrior poase during lesson
thank you!!!!!
Excellent explanation on how to keep knees safe....👌👍👏👏👏👏 I became a fan of yours....😄🤗 Lots of thanks, Namaste....🙏🙏
thanks for this good post, just start ashtanga yoga practice and i have hyper joint mobility so the focus about the hyperextension was really interesting. Thanks for your work and see you soon
Thanks for these knee videos! I have spontaneous saphenous nerve entrapment in my right leg, causing numbness from just above the knee to the ankle and some pain at the inner knee and groin. No relief from massage, chiropractic, doctors (exams & x-rays) and much less yoga d/t instability on my right side. I will definitely follow these excellent tips for knee alignment & safety. Can you recommend anything else that may help? Many thanks for all the good info you share! Namaste.
Thank you! This was so helpful that I hope that you will continue with more videos on knees. : )
Perfect timing....my knees have been feeling sore...thanks Esther for focusing on the details...while other teachers are all about the big picture. :)
@robinbrum Being overweight is taxing for the joints, so you need to be extra careful! If it feels too much it probably is. It being strenuous is good, but if it feels too much on the knees it isn't!
Thank you for your explanation, Esther!
This is totally different from what I was taught in Bikram. In my Bikram classes we have to "lock the knees". It just worsen my knees and ankle problems. I've stopped taking Bikram classes about 2 years ago and practice Universal and AntiGravity yoga instead.
Thank you for posting this!! Can you show us how to protect our hips and lower back during yoga?
Thank you. Very important imfornation.. I'll keep those things in mind during my practice.

Could you please tell me how to prevent the Achilles tendon pain during the triangle pose, especially the twisted(revolved ) triangle pose?
Hi Sam, It's difficult to say without seeing you in person I'm afraid. You could experiment with your foot position to see if it's more comfortable with a shorter or wider stance or different angle of the feet - making sure not to put any strain on your knees. However, we would always recommend you consulting with your medical professional if you are experiencing pain.
thanks for this video. I always hurt my knee during yoga ;(
