    Advice is sound. But maybe show an example of trying on a standard wave rather than one of the most perfect, clean breaks on the planet 😅

    My best advice to you all. Consistently is key. Just get out there no matter the conditions and have a go.
    Most of the people out in the water learn by trial and error. You’ll get it eventually

      @@Dobertathonwell sounds like you've got the whole year to surf, so there shouldn't be a big problem learning to surf. And if you have a surfable beach, there is most of the time nothing as too flat, just the wrong surf board. If it's to flat for you to catch, you have to work on your paddling and maybe get a softtop with enough volume

    Think of all the surf-able waves, at all of the surf breaks around the world, that may be wide open with no one there to catch them. Get going. Now is your chance.

    What about the last second double knee bend to move more weight forward to help catch the wave?

    • @rleriche5044
      @rleriche5044 8 місяців тому

      Weight on the back. The more central weight position the harder to turn.

    • @aussiesurfer805
      @aussiesurfer805 8 місяців тому

      - plant your bum, in a quick single move from paddling to sitting up, near the back half of the board so most of the board from where you sit to the nose elevates up and out of the water at a steep-ish angle.
      - grab one hand onto the rail, use your feet under water like a duck and your free hand to push yourself around ... the elevated board will help the spin go more easily so keep it elevated all the way around.
      - once around slide your feet either side of the board, whilst you have both hands gripping either side of the board, back down the board and lay back into the paddling position.
      - As you get the feel of laying back down with the nose initially elevated, you'll be able to push back on the board with your hands more towards the nose, as you do this it gives you essentially a little (or big) spring forward (a frog kick at the same time helps ). You can actually catch waves like that with barely one or two easy paddle strokes only. I'm finding it hard to explain this but watch advanced surfers do it, and you'll get the feel of it as you learn to spin. But the spring forward is a major asset because it helps with your momentum going forward after the spin to get back up to speed to help catch the wave..
      - you'll soon get the hang of spinning because you get so many opportunities to practice it i.e. not just when you're catching a wave... paddle back and forth out the back and practice at every chance... you can do it in stages to get each stage really solid... , practice padding then sitting up on your bum quickly in one motion, then sitting up and elevating board, sitting up and elevating board and spinning , sitting up elevating board spinning and springing forward...
      -it looks graceful and easy when done well, but don't think that way, think powerful deliberate and smooth , use your muscles, for me I especially use my legs in the spin..
      practice practice practice ... time in the water is what's needed for everyone for anything in surfing - no substitute - do it in different conditions up to your level of safety / confidence / line-up etiquette

      @@aussiesurfer805 thanks a lot man, went out today and these tips helped. slowly getting better and at least now can coordinate my legs to spin them the proper direction to turn the way I want. kind of hard on a 9ft foamie but I know the more time I spend on water the better I will get!

      @@TechboogieTV that's awesome mate .... I'm glad you could get something out of it ....
      Enjoy the journey, and once you can paddle strongly, read waves a little better and get to your feet consistently, you'll improve rapidly and just love it even more ....
      Surfing's one of the greatest thing in the world, but also one of the hardest - and that's why we're just so much better then everybody else that doesn't surf 🤣 ... really important to never forget, just how great we are ... 🤙😏😜
