  • A Jewish man playing a Roman? And wait...Elijah isn't his birth name? Our favorite Queens host, Anthony Perrelli, sits down with our favorite snacking Roman, Elijah Alexander, to discuss his role as Atticus Amelius Pulcher on The Chosen. In this interview, Elijah shares about his family and religious background, the research he has put into his role on The Chosen, and the perspective his character brings to the show. He also answers all sorts of fan inquiries, including the frequently asked question of why Atticus is always eating and snacking in episodes.

From the very beginning I had a feeling about Atticus . He's believer. Amazing.actor thank your. I felt the same way Gaius. He's very moved. I really like him also . I love watching the change in him . He doesn't show it the change is coming from within

He does not appear to be a believer, he thinks Jesus is a teacher, like buddah, but not that He is GOD. I pray this show will bring him closer to God and make him realize that what he is searching for in all those other false religions will leave him empty, and that only the one TRUE God (Christ Jesus) is the TRUTH.

I've been a fan of Elijah Alexander way before The Chosen, but since I don't go see certain non-family films, I only get to see him in family friendly projects. He exudes a lot of charisma that makes the viewer side with him whether hero or villain.

In almost all the characters in the Chosen, i can see bits and pieces of things in my own life. From the place where i met Jesus, to my disappointments and my rejections of Jesus, to the times where despite all my own self-righteousness Jesus was still waiting for me with outstretched arms. Up to the places where my heart started to change. All because of the dedication in the love of Jesus. To see how He went through hell on earth, but He NEVER quited. He stood tall through it all, so that there could be a chance for us to be cleaned of the filth we so love to live in. And that is what the Chosen is so great at. Portraying those moments of the disciples, Roman soldiers, and many others when they realized that something is really wrong, (or right) and then those wonderful moments where they eventually surrender.... I am swimming in the mercy of Jesus. Can never thank Him enough... Thank you, Atticus, for being faithful in your role. You are sowing millions of seeds into people's hearts... May those seeds germinate and may many people's hearts also be opened and healed...

I pray you will be able to truly know & understand Yeshua and become a messianic Jew. My husband is from Israel with both Sephardic & Ashkenazi background who experienced a miraculous healing after being blown up in the IDF. He was prayed over in the name of Yeshua, was healed & through that met his savior. I call him a completed Jew - he hasn’t “washed away” his Judaism; he just now follows his Jewish messiah Yeshua. I pray through the Chosen you will met & truly know him💕🙏🏼

I find it so weird most don't understand that Jews denying the Angel of the Lord, his lineage of miracle baby champions, then his incarnation within those lines, Paul explaining the riddle of nahustan to those who didn't get it from Jesus (John 3) himself.... the deniers aren't real "Jews".
I'm glad your husband got past that.

@@nobodyspecial1852 Understand the Jews were brainwashed by their leaders against Jesus and even though there are a lot of Jewish writing about him, they prevent the masses from the Truth. Think about the way the progressives have done in US and Europe. And Hamas and radical Islam has done the Palestinians on the extreme for violence

I can't take my eyes off the screen any time there is a scene with Atticus in it. I know that's because of Elijah Alexander's abilities. He brings...himself in to the role, not offensively, but just enough to make it interesting, believable, and unforgettable. I loved The Chosen before he joined...but his presence absolutely adds to the excellence of this show! Thanks so much for lending your talent to such an incredible project!

Hey Penny G, Atticus is like literally the most underrated character in the series. Man this guy in every scene he’s in steals the show. Out of all the roman characters ever depicted on screen whether its a movie or a tv show. Atticus is one of those characters that are super fleshed out and lovable. And probably one of the best roman characters ever depicted. he and gaius fall in this category of good writing when it comes to roman characters. Other movies or tv shows other then The tv show Rome. They usually portray and depict them as bland and mediocre at times. Like the audience can’t really relate to them because they seem boring or whatever. Thats my take on that. Like for example tv shows like Spartacus.

That would be a terrible plot twist for the character. I'd hate to see it but would be a great feat of writing. But neither Quintus nor Pilot have the authority to order Atticus to perform such an act. A gut wrenching plot twist that would be more likely would be Quintus order Gaius to perform the deed. He would become the centurion who said "Surely this man was the Son of God". I can't imagine how how Kirk Woller could play that. But just speculation. We'll have to wait for that season.

A very interesting, insightful interview with Elijah Alexander. The personality of Atticus in The Chosen fascinated me from the beginning. Mainly because I couldn't figure out what role he even played in the story. I kept being torn to whether Atticus would be, or not, the one who plays an important role in Jesus' crucifixion, or a Roman who becomes a disciple of Jesus (a Saul-Paul story). In any case, Elijah Alexander has a very eventful and spiritual life and is a brilliant character actor. It was so fascinating to hear what he told about his life. Thank you for this great interview. 💖💖💖

I once searched for truth and tried many philosophies and practices, I would move on from one to the next since they were bs. I would meditate for hours, do witchcraft and all that stuff. I was searching for truth, peace, love, joy, healing, and I found all of that in Jesus. All those philosophies and religions are counterfeits, Jesus is the only truth, way, and life. And true Christianity isn’t a religion it’s a relationship, it’s true spirituality amongst all the counterfeits. Religious Christians have misrepresented it and God and that’s turned ppl away from God. But there are true Christians too. May you be enlightened by the light of Jesus.

Facinating possibilities as Atticus discovers the unexpected. I would love to see him continue as that witness for us of the rest of the mortal ministry of Christ, then become a witness to the conversion and mission of Paul and the Apostles.
I think Atticus eats as a way of helping him process and digest what he is discovering. As a person in Law Enforcement for over 40 years, I understand it. Always processing information. Wonderful character Elijah. You keep him real. Stay hungry Atticus.

So you think Dallas plans to take the Chosen all the way to even after, not just the Resurrection, but the Acts of the Apostles, perhaps all the way to Pentecost? 'Cause I thought about that myself. That would be a very long shot type of affair though. The resources that would require are unthinkable. I can tell because of the quality of the scenes so far...this is NOT a low budget production as I thought it was when I first started watching it. That last scene of Jesus walking on water for example...WOW!

I think I may have an answer as to why he touched Jesus as he came into the room. Subconsciously, Atticus the Roman, (who Elijah was protraying) wanted to see if Jesus was real. Perhaps as an actor he touched Jonathan to show respect for the heavy role Jonathan is so wonderfully protraying.
This series has the best acting I have ever witnessed. So very realistic that when the miracles are preformed the veiwer feels joy for the restored life of the one receiving them. That is marvelous acting. You have a front row seat to history as it happens

What a great interview. I love Elijah Alexander. I loved his portrayal of Hosea and have watched a that a few times and has become one of my favourite bible movies. I loved getting to know more about him in this interview and the growth of his spirituality and religious convictions. I love all the actors of The Chosen and the life they bring to the people they portray. Thank you from, Gina Mac of Queensland, Australia. 😊❤️🙏🐨🇦🇺✡️🧔‍♀️🪔🎬

Such an intriguing character in The Chosen. This is a very insightful interview as to who Elijah Alexander is as a person and how he interprets his role as Atticus. I eagerly wait to see where Atticus goes and grows in the remaining seasons. Thank you Anthony Perrelli for a job well done.

I have seen the movie Amazing Love about Hosea the prophet and his wife Gomer. I didn't realize that he's the same actor who plays Atticus. He is excellent in both roles! Now I want to call him Hosea! What a great interview! I will subscribe to Against the Tide! God bless you all! 😊

One of my favorite characters and after this interview I can see so much of himself in Atticus, I love it when he is on, so fun to watch him. I know exactly what he is saying about a habit helping him to concentrate and focus. I would think that his characters job might make snacking a necessity, not being able to leave his "post" for a proper meal. He also captures the wisdom and experience and thoughtfulness that his character would hopefully have at this stage in his life and career, he has developed a good feel for his surroundings and the people he is watching. I love his character, so different from how a Roman is usually depicted, which happens in every character in this show if I think about it, he makes his role so much more interesting and human. Perfectly cast again. Good interview!

Yes, with Atticus, Elijah gets to play a First Century version of James Bond, no? Great to hear about his early family history -- Egypt, Israel, France, and US -- wow! a true one of our Sephardim brothers -- will our tents ever get to be fully dry?

Talk about knowing one's character & relating to it in some way. His insight here really just makes me one to know more about the character Atticus over time...almost like he has his own story unfolding in this greatest story ever told. He's about as close to a deep thinker about his role and truly authentic in this role. I suspect he's very similar too this persona in real life. Really enjoy his openers. I hope this truth does help him come to the universal truth of The Chosen & The Greatest Gift of all time. Blessings.

Thank you for your hard work, Elijah. You've created a complex and compelling character in Atticus. I was immediately drawn to the character and am now stuck in a paradox of sorts as to whether I like Atticus or not ("good guy" or "bad guy"?). His unconventional (and at times dismissive) approach in dealing with local Roman leaders cracks me up. I take it he has earned a great amount of respect (in Rome) to be able to comfortably do that. But I also suspect he's a very capable and tough man who has seen and done horrible things in satisfying the requirements of his job for Pilate. At times you even manage to make the character warm - if only for brief moments. Thank you, good luck and we'll continue to be watching. God bless you and your family.

Elijah will (perhaps) "survive" as an actor because he understands that others (producers, directors, writers) have their obvious say and control over the direction of the character-although I'm sure he has his hopes and ideas as to how the character evolves and changes. He also does a good job of not giving away any of the secrets. Not at all a trivial thing.

There’s something about this actor. He is so magnetic. I have watched every scene with Atticus multiple times…that scene when Jesus is taken in for questioning by Quintus…there’s this moment between Jesus and Atticus…a recognition/acknowledgment from Jesus subtly and then Atticus gives this barely perceptible nod back. It’s so good.

I do love the character of Atticus. I wish the interviewer had corrected Elijah when he says it’s all up to interpretation. No. The Word of God is God’s plan for redemption & His Son, Jesus Christ. It’s not up for interpretation. I have been praying for this man, even more so after hearing this interview. He needs to know the One True Savior of the World. Then he won’t need all that other “religious” nonsense.
