      Simple
      D&d becomes blander the more you play it
      The only unmodified way you can use this system is to make a dungeon run in a cool world and that's about it
      You can modify it to run some other scenarios but other systems do it more efficiently already so why bother

    First thought: Woah this system could be really good for dramatic/tragic characters. What if a character's mythos was that of someone who was super incredible but died tragically like Achilles (or a bit more controvesially Jesus). You could have a character trying to use their mythos to help people but slowly slipping closer to tragedy or even loosing touch with their humanity. I could do so much with this idea.
    Second thought: HOLY SHIT YOU COULD PLAY THE MONKEY KING LET'S FUCKING GOOOOOOOOO

  • @dracone4370
    @dracone4370 4 роки тому +18

    City of Mist sounds like it would be a near-perfect fit for a concept for a game/campaign that's been dancing around in my head since around Christmas. The idea is that each of the players takes on playing what is basically an incarnation of a holiday, I've been calling this scenario "Holiday Heroes" because I'm not that creative with names and I think it fits. So you can basically have Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, the incarnation of the Chinese New Year (which is Feb 12 this year), the incarnation of Flag Day, the incarnation of Boxing Day, and Saint Patrick with new holiday powers (Saint Patrick's Day is known as the Feast of Saint Patrick in Ireland) all in the same party. As an example, maybe the character that is basically manifesting Santa Claus is a toy store owner or toymaker that's overly friendly and likes to help out those in need but then slowly transitions into something a bit more in line with the Christmas lore we're all a bit more familiar.
    There's actually a lot of fun you can have with fairytales, legends, myths, and lore because quite a few of them have quite a few variations, I've actually found over a dozen different versions of the Little Red Riding Hood story, and quite a few of those are what most modern audiences would consider not suitable for children. And popular characters in lore, like Santa Claus, also have a number of variations on several aspects of their stories, some of which have been enshrined in the public zeitgeist in what are now considered classic Christmas specials. Figures in stories can have a number of aspects about who they are change over time, the European folklore character of Jack Frost was originally coined as a villain because he was an evil figure who wanted to enter homes and drain them of what little heat they had but during the Industrial Era he changed to the friendly and fun-loving character that is so loved he's appeared in a number of pop-culture works (especially movies)

      @cloudGremlin 4 роки тому +1

      It does sound really cool! With my experience in running MotW, when you give your characters control over the game it becomes one of the best experiences, if very chaotic at times XD. I’ve found that giving the players a couple plot hooks at a time, or hinting at things they can investigate, works really well to help the players feel like they are free to explore the world without being lost in not knowing what to do or what’s expected of them. This is where having a very small sandbox world, say a city, comes in handy as your characters can pass over plot hooks with the knowledge that they will always be able to come back and pursue them at a later date. And due to the smaller world, I am able to keep track of things going on and forces at work, all the way down to what cafe is most popular this year.
      I try not to push my players to go in a certain direction (which has caused me much panic when players managed to get their characters in deep trouble) and I don’t even keep notes for an overarching campaign or mystery minisodes- instead I have extensive notes on many NPC’s and “artifacts” so I know how the “world” will react to the actions of my players. So far it has been quite enjoyable, especially watching my players figure stuff out about the world and use it to their advantage- or find out too late and end up making a deal with an Eldritchian being to kill their friend which I hadn’t even planned on the players to meet this being yet because I’m not quite done making him **but I digress**.
      Anyways yeah. Let ur players lose. You will instantly regret it and have the most fun ever at the same time XD

    DM _"But what does your Orc looks like"_
    Player _"Like... he got tusks?"_
    Yeeeeaahh... na. I guess I have three or four players at best, which this could be fun with, but it's definetly not for anyone. This is probably great to play with other DMs, who already are used to tell their own story.

    Thank you so much Runesmith. I've been looking for a game like this for a long time.
    I wanted to play a modern based game for a while without the hard magic system of D&D. For a time, I tried using All Flesh Must Be Eaten. While a great system, it doesn't lend itself to non-zombue stories.
    This is exactly what I've needed. You are the best.

    I'm playing this. It's confusing. I'm a cocky teen who mistrusts adults. Lily Chow, which Chow is an interesting name. Not typically Chinese except it is used in a few areas including Singapore and America. I decided her real name is 静静乔(Jingjing Chow) Lily is just easier for Americans. She curses out adults in Chinese, likes to drink coke, pretends tough, and wants to find whoever caused a series of bombs that put her brother in the hospital. She is kind of like a sorcerer.
    I still don't know what secret she found that caused her to runaway.

    I remember this one game I ran using this system with a guy who was the embodiment of the Holy Grail, Sherlock Holmes, the Pied Piper of Hamlin, and Date Masamune. The final fight was against a guy who was supposed to be a gang leader with the powers of Zahhak from Persian myth.
    Sherlock got lucky with the dice rolls and packed in a lot of positive traits, and one-shotted the boss because I gave them too little hp.
