    You can clearly hear between his 1975 unofficial press conference and other press conference a year later that the attrition Alisuffered at the hands of Joe Frazier in the Manila fight slurred his speech and slowed it down. He never should've fought after that as much as I love the guy

    • @jboy510
      @jboy510 9 років тому +2

      What you say means nothing really cause, the 3rd fight frazier took more punishment than the first two and it was called off in the 14th, so you can say slower speech, along with quicker and stronger hands

    • @simontemplar4657
      @simontemplar4657 9 років тому +6

      jamil hall Thanks for stating the obvious Jamil and about your last comment: " slower speech, quicker and stronger hands" = that's probably the most idiotic comment I've read in a long time and here's why: when Ali came back from exile, his speed and agility had greatly diminished from the layoff. To compensate, he resorted to his durability instead of eluding the punches. By the time of the Manila fight, Ali was battling arthritic pain to his hands and frequently needed to ice them. Right there, that slows you down and weakens you. Number three when cognitive functions are impaired, such as slurred and slowed speech, your physical speed does not increase; in fact it decreases as well such as the rest of your motor skills. Anyone who reads even a little on exercise and sports science knows those facts. Finally before your pride gets the best of you and you feel compelled to retort with another reply which makes absolutely no sense, go on the UA-cam search engine, and type" HBO THRILLA IN MANILA DOCUMENTARY" and listen to what Ali's doctor, Ferdie Pacheco, has to say about Ali's condition following the outcome of the Manila fight. Pacheco left Ali's camp in 1977 after writing letters to Ali, Angelo Dundee, heck everybody, imploring Ali to retire. I won't be commenting to any further comments of yours unless they are logical and thoughtful.

    • @mikewalsh7793
      @mikewalsh7793 9 років тому +4

      George Young He had parkinson's, didn't have anything to do with boxing. His brain function is 100%, he simply has impaired motor skills.

    • @simontemplar4657
      @simontemplar4657 9 років тому

      Mike Walsh And where did you get your information from out of curiosity? Because according to his daughter, Ali can't remember his last world title and his son, Muhammad Ali jr, says it's only a matter of time before his father forgets him completely so it goes beyond impared motors skill. Google it, it's information easy to find.

    • @JR-sn1pi
      @JR-sn1pi 8 років тому +3

      Ali's doctor, Pacheco claims he noticed some signs of this condition way before the Frazier fights. Even before the first Frazier fight. 1970 I believe when he noticed this change. Ali's condition isn't necessarily atributed to boxing, of course it doesn't help it in any way either. But Ali most likely would developed this condition even if he wasn't a boxer, just not as soon as he did.

  • @vidnut67
    @vidnut67 12 років тому +5

    Let's not forget that not only did Ali take a lot of punches in actual fights during the 1970s, but he also took loads of shots in sparring during that period. I remember Cus D'Amato's words of alarm when he saw Ali sparring in Atlanta for the first Quarry fight (1970) and was surprised to see Ali lying against the ropes. You didn't have to be a doctor to see what was happening to him. In fact, Dr. Ferdie Pacheco stated that medical tests could not determine whether a fighter was shot.

      To me, he was the greatest Champion of all! Not always the best boxer, not always the best person either! Him self admits it time to time! I honestly believe George Foremen was drugged in his fight with Ali! Foreman had no losses in his career, he beat 3 of the 4 boxers Ali have lost fights with very easy! They say its style matching but Frazier also had the same style and he knocked down Ali! Foreman was bigger and stronger! However, none of them would ever be the greatest Champ he was!!

But, in those days this kind of stuff was very common in all kind of sports!! Im not buying it!! George Foreman, destroyed 3 of the most hardest fighters of the time in 4 rounds! Fighters that Ali would need all 12 or 15 rounds to win, many times by jury decision!! If you study a bit their carrer wins and loses, you'll see this doesn't make sense!!

    @michaelyouth Ali had 19 more pro fights than Frazier, many of them WAY past his prime. And look, Ali's voice was slurred as early as '76. That's not age. I'm 37 now and I sound the same as when I was in high school. By '80 when he fought Holmes he sounded terrible. They knew even back then something was wrong. It might not have been Parkinson's at that point, but there was no doubt he had suffered damage at that point. That's why his last fight was in the Bahamas.

Norton, Holmes, Shavers, Frazier, all those guys were KOd in fights, which is to say they obviously couldn't take punches as well as Ali. As washed up as he was in '77 watch that fight and see how well he was able to take Shaver's shots. I think the words of the late Floyd Patterson summed it up: "Of all the heavyweights ever, he was the best at taking a punch. And he took shots for a long time. When he lost his legs, he lost his defense. He's been hit in the ring for twenty years, my God. The brain slaps up against the skull and it causes scar tissue. That scar tissue makes your brain not work. Common sense tells you it's obvious what's wrong."

    @michaelyouth Can I say without a doubt that Parkinson's was brought on from boxing? No. But I can say he suffered brain damage because of his unhuman ability to take a punch. Other guys would take a few of those frazier hooks and be down for the count. Ali took countless and was only dropped once by Frazier at the end of a brutal fight. He took a great shot, but as a result his brain got scrambled a bit too. It's unavoidable.

    But I think there are boxers who took more blows to the head than Ali did, not just Frazie, and they're doing fine. So I don't know if boxing gave Ali Parkinson.

And just be cause he got dropped doesn't mean his chin failed him. Frazier dropped him in the 15th AFTER Ali had suffered major punishment. Yet he was up by the count of 2. Shavers caught Ali FLUSH on the chin with a shot that should have killed him and all Ali did was play possum. No heavyweight ever took shots like that.

Then listen to him talk from '76 and later and tell me his voice doesn't sound different. I'm not going to say it was Parkinson's at that point, but it was clear that damage had been done. Ali was the greatest, but no man can take the punishment he did and not suffer some sort of damage. He had the best chin in history, but that chin cost him down the road.

He's been criticized for that. Foreman was the only big puncher I can really think of and look how well that worked out for him. He got KOd in the 2nd in their first fight. Frazier could not take the big shots like Ali could and that's a fact. Also Frazier quit at the right time. Ali didn't.

    @michaelyouth Dude, I'm not trying to insult you, but you're just not being realistic. To say he didn't take that many shots, I just can't believe anyone would say that when you can view all his fights right here on youtube. In his youth he was very hard to hit cleanly. In his prime he was damn near impossible to hit. When he came back in '70 he was not the same and he got hit, A LOT! Matter of fact he once prided himself on his defense. In the '70s he bragged about how well he could take it.

    @dibosh80 Sorry ..but I have read the Quran ..and its NOT very similar to the Bible ..The Bible preaches of love and DOING it ..not about love and retalliation like the Quran does ...The Bible says : Love your enemies ..The Quran says without much ado : Slay your enemies ...Where is the likeness? ...It merely looks that the Quran copied some parts of the Mosaic law, and that is about it where we can refer to any likeness ..besides that, the Bible maintains much higher wisdom in no retalliation..

    @arlington33able Muslims like to glorify God. Man gets complaisant when he forget about God. Saying Allahu Akbar is a simple phrase among many that Muslims use to glorify God. The idea is if you have faith in God then it will manifest in your speech and actions. So it is no surprise that muslims say Allahu Akbar to remember God's greatness. Hope that helps.

    @MrWrjs When muslims refer to Allah, its the same being you refer to as the father, "God". In other words, you and Muhmmad Ali are talking about the same being, God, unless you think the son "Jesus" is greater than the "Father", God.
