One of published papers talked about how "the summer solider and the sunshine patriot" would shrink away from that conflict. The marketing was kinda genius. Because Bucky = Winter Soldier was an open secret (any minor research would reveal that on the web if you weren't a comic book reader) they focused on that angle so the Hydra twist came out of nowhere. But no, don't feel bad about not knowing. Makes the experience better going in fresh. I'd say it's impressive youve seen zero marketing in the following years, though, which doesn't even try to hide Bucky. I saw a couple reactors who knew he was Winter Solider just from trailers for later films made it obvious.
Also timing this up with Agents of SHIELD so that the discovery of Hydra in SHIELD happened at the same time in the movie and the show was genius. Like the episode of the show where they find out ended with Fury being attacked in the SUV by the Winter Soldier and the next night the movie came out. That was pretty genius.
21:00 people praise that whole sequence but specifically the fight between Rogers and the Winter Soldier for how well choreographed and realistic that battle is.
I went into the theater completely blind to every aspect of this movie, and like you, was blown away from beginning to end. Seeing that Bucky was alive was the most awesome moment of the film, while at the same time, drawing huge sadness at what the character had been through. The final fight between Steve and Bucky was heart wrenching and I was relieved to see that after pulling Steve from the water, a piece of Bucky was still there. His character arc has become my favorite of all the MCU characters and his portrayal by Sebastian Stan is brilliant. Your reaction was pretty much the same as mine (years ago). Looking back at all the MCU movies, this is probably still my favorite, and now that I know them all so well, it's amazing how they were all tied together. You'll find that out as you progress. I should add that I just watched Black Widow and loved it.
Yaaaas this film is so great! Nahh they are super sneaky with the Bucky reveal. Drip feed it. He's there in his full goggles and mask, then just his eyes at night when he catches the shield, then his eyes in the day fighting the 3 of them, then sat in the shadows with no mask at all, then finally full face reveal. It's beautiful. The technique...and his face. Sebastian (Stan) has a great scream on him too he's good at the noises hahaha! The Winter Soldier OST is freakin FIRE. Don't take my word for this but i hear they like remixed Bucky's screams from when he fell from the train to make some of that soundtrack! So scary!! Also so happy we've finally met Falcon he's one of my faves! So many twists and amazing fight scenes. Great reaction!
“There’s so much pain in his eyes.” Thank you! YES! So meany people just look normal when watching that. One of the best actors Sebastian Stan is! So much in his eyes! Like Jack in Kings! You can clearly see even if he has a blank expression, you still see the pain. Amazing actor
The Winter Soldier is the MCU at it's absolute peak. It legitimized Captain America for me in this universe and set the stage for The Russo Brothers to run the show. GSP fighting Captain America was the best moment of my life. 🤘🤩
Early on you said "I can see both sides". And in my opinion, that is one of the best parts of the Marvel movies that the Russo Brothers direct (winter soldier, Civil War, Infinity war, and Endgame). They don't always have black and white situations between good and evil.
Love the reaction Seb! I knew it was Bucky under the mask since it was practically confirmed before movie release that he would be the winter soldier. But the Hydra angle completely took me by surprise and it made for a great twist imo. Sebastian Stan did a great job as the winter soldier. The limited lines he had didn’t stop him from portraying a fantastic character. I can’t wait for you to get to the remaining movies! As you saw the twins will be appearing and ‘she’ is one of my favourite marvel characters ever. Can’t wait for the rest. Keep up the great work Seb!
Yes, I was so excited for this one. It has to be my favorite MCU movie. Bucky is the greatest character in my eyes. Sebastian Stan does an incredible job playing him. He doesn´t even have many lines, like 5 in the whole movie. :D But he can show everything with his eyes. And he looks so cool in the Winter Soldier costume. Your reactions were hillarious Seb, I enjoyed this video so much. Hope you have a great day.
Six years ago I was spending Christmas at my sister's house in western Pennsylvania. When I walked into the living room, my brother in law, who was a staff sergeant in the Marines and did two tours in Vietnam (as well as being a cop for 25 years), and my nephew, who was finishing up a 20 year stint in the Air Force and had spent time in Iraq, were both sitting there watching this movie. Two guys who have never read a comic book in their lives. That's how damn good this movie is.
This is still honestly one of my favourite MCU films. I *love* Captain America & Black Widow, & I thought this film was amazing - it was great to see them (& Fury) in a spy film that showcases their skills so well, especially w/ such amazing fight scenes. Not to mention it was great for Natasha's character development.
This is my favorite of the mcu because like you said. It doesn't feel like a marvel movie. It surpasses that and becomes a action spy thriller that happens to have comic book characters
The thing I love about your reactions are how you integrate yourself into the fandoms. It's gratifying when reactors have the same excitement and love for a franchise as the viewers. Star Wars is my favorite series followed by Lord of the Rings followed by the MCU; but they're all very close so seeing you get hyped for these MCU movies makes me remember how excited I was. It "re-hypes," me if you will.
The “shall we play a game?” line Natasha is referencing is from WarGames (1983). It’s a movie about a kid who plays a computer game about global thermal nuclear war, and in doing so unintentionally convinces the US military there is an incoming Russian nuclear attack. Link to the scene (spoiler): ua-cam.com/video/KXzNo0vR_dU/v-deo.html This film could be worth a react honestly.
Peggy is going be Captain America in the upcoming "What If?" series. "Is this the villain?" Well, yes, but no. I love that Seb wasn't spoiled about who Winter Soldier was. "Why is Bucky made to suffer this much?" Oh, Lord. This is why Bucky is my favorite character in the whole MCU.
Fun fact, the Winter Soldier theme (that eerie sound that plays when he shows up) is actually made from Bucky’s scream as he fell off the train in the first Captain America movie.
I think there were two reasons why Bucky did not wear a mask on the Helicarrier. One, to unsettle Steve, expecting Steve to be hesitant to fight his best friend and two, they thought they would win and then the Winter Soldier was either not neccessary anymore, either being a hidden threat or not usefull at all. They didn't care if he survives or not and tbh, I think that Hydra did not expect Bucky to survive. He was just a tool for them, a highly useful tool, but they did not consider him a human being, just a weapon. comic book readers knew about the Bucky being the Winter Soldier, it was more or less an open secret, the big twist in this movie was not the reveal that Bucky was the Winter Soldier but that Hydra was SHIELD. Even after all of the movies. Winter soldier is still in my top 3 of Marvel's best movies.
The old lady with the moves is Jenny Agutter. She starred in Logan’s Run and An American Werewolf In London among others. It was nice that they gave her the opportunity to be Black Widow for a scene.
Old Peggy Carter is actually played by Hayley Atwell, the same actress from the 1st Captain America film. Instead of covering her face with a bad looking prosthetic, they aged her using CGI. That shrieking sound when Bucky appears is actually Bucky screaming as he’s falling to his “death” in the first Cap film. They just distorted the scream.
Fun fact the little theme it plays whenever the winter soldier shows up in the film its actually Bucky’s scream when he fell off the train played backwards and edited
i’ve watched a lot of people react to the mcu (probably too many) and i gotta say you’re definitely the best one. keep it up man, your reactions are great!
@@SebScreen I like the fact Bucky is named after an American President. James Buchanan is one of 46 American presidents. I don't know which number he is but I know he was an American President.
Steve was a paratrooper too, in that he was trained by the US Army to jump out of planes into combat, it's displayed on his uniform. That is something I can add to the list of things I have done, as well. Different kind of soldier, the kind that come from above. Far more dangerous.
Ever since this film, I've said that Superhero isn't a move/book genre, it's a setting. In phase 1, we had a war film (Captain America 1) and a horror film (Incredible Hulk) set in a world with superheroes . And now with this, we have had a spy thriller with superheroes. This won't be the last example either.
Okay first of all, I have to say how much I adorrre this reaction. This is a reaction worthy of how absolutely mental this movie is. Agreed, best MCU film. I have such a hard time picking one, and I often have to go back to the original Avengers or Civil War but good god is this one out of control. Best hand to hand combat scenes, Chris Evans and Sebastian Stan went ham on their fights and I even consider this to be ScarJo’s best, physically. The Bucky reveal always killed me, made me an instafan of his complex character, and that elevator scene is so iconic, Sam Wilson’s Intro... It’s also when, I believe, Steve starts his deviation from that staunch patriotism into a more deviant character willing to fight the system. I like to think of it as the transition out of Captain America into simply Cap. There is just so much about this that’s other level. So good. Cannot waittttt for you to get to Civil War. It just keeps getting more nuanced from here.
Oh dang I missed the live stream. Darn it. The Winter Soldier is the best man. Definitely top 5 MCU films. So glad you're as in love with marvel as we are. And yes I wasn't looking at his face either. Pec hypnosis was in full effect. Edit: "Are we ever gonna find out what happened to his eye?" 😂 Wait until you get to Captain Marvel. Edit: Seb being surprised all the movies are linked. It's called a universe for a reason. All the movies are linked man. Edit: I love his reaction when he saw who the winter soldier was haha. That was me too. Also, Fury never dies. Ever lol. Also it's called vibranium. His arm and caps shield is made of it.
I think one of my favorite things about this movie- and another testament to what makes it so good- is the fact that it was actually filmed in DC. I live in DC and pass through the areas they show in this movie fairly regularly. So many movies/shows *say* they are in DC but then every shot is clearly some generic city with skyscrapers (which we don't even have here!) and brownstones (also not common). So while DC is a fairly common "setting" for movies, this one has a unique look and feel to it because they took advantage of DC's distinctive aesthetic. They end up going all over the city and take advantage of landmarks like the mall and the Smithsonian American History Museum. Superhero movies have to fight against feeling "generic" because they are formulaic for the most part and often take place in big cities. Having a grounded sense of setting and geography is one of those underestimated things that is a vital aspect of setting the foundation for the story.
I didn't see it coming either Seb, I think only those who already knew from the comics knew. That's how good they made it, and this is my favourite one too
Sebastian Stan is beautiful One of the best 'villian' entrances ever and the best superhero landing of all time from Capt, all in one movie. haha omg Sebs face at 11:08 when Winter Solider catches the shield.

My Brother and I took an entire afternoon hashing out a ranking list for the entire MCU and we argued over everything except this film being the Best.
Okay, your reaction to Winter Solider is by far my favourite out of all the ones I've seen so far! So good dude
21:00 people praise that whole sequence but specifically the fight between Rogers and the Winter Soldier for how well choreographed and realistic that battle is.
He is going to be like BEST MCU MOVIE in every movie and I approve.
This is why you're such an excellent reactor. I'm 50 and I cry at that scene every time my man. No shame in that. Cheers.
The Winter Soldier theme is my absolute favorite 🔥
Love this movie. It’s a blend of a superhero film, Mission Impossible and Jason Bourne.
Not really Mission: Impossible. 🤨
Bucky is one of the best written characters in the entire MCU.
Rewatching this again for fun. Gotta admit I lol'd when you said "this is the most emotional I've gotten in a Marvel film yet". Awww, Seb!
The actor who plays the German doctor Zola also does the voice of Dobby in HP.
Not German, Swiss! 😊
My all time fav!!! MCU movie!! I can watch this everyday.
Early on you said "I can see both sides". And in my opinion, that is one of the best parts of the Marvel movies that the Russo Brothers direct (winter soldier, Civil War, Infinity war, and Endgame). They don't always have black and white situations between good and evil.
One of the best Marvel films! Every time I hear "who the hell is Bucky" and seeing Steve's face after he says it, breaks my heart 😭
"Cap is back. And he didn't skip leg day!" - Honest Trailers.
I really hope we get TFATWS season 2 and atleast a couple of Bucky solo movies too.
I 100% agree with everything you said.
Pressing "Like" just on principle.
"What is going on?!" Yeah, this flick really is next level. Brilliant reaction vid!
For me this has to be the best MCU movie. It's just so well written and well-paced.
Its my favourite movie of the MCU. Best fightchoreo, best cap, best twists, the soundtrack is perfect. An absolute masterpiece
This is still honestly one of my favourite MCU films.
I *love* Captain America & Black Widow, & I thought this film was amazing - it was great to see them (& Fury) in a spy film that showcases their skills so well, especially w/ such amazing fight scenes.
Not to mention it was great for Natasha's character development.
this is definitely one of the best mcu movies
LOVE Seb’s reactions.
Reaction to winter soldier being Bucky is CLASSIC
Fury: "last time I trusted someone I lost an eye"
me, knowing what happened but not wanting to spoil anything to Seb: 👀🤭
Too bad there isn't a one eye version of that first emoji. ;)
it wouldve been better if we never knew
@@kevintan5497 lmao that's actually true
I don't really need to know.
Now if you excuse me, I have to watch some cat videos.
@@jamesparson I see what u did there
This is my favorite of the mcu because like you said.
Link to the scene (spoiler): ua-cam.com/video/KXzNo0vR_dU/v-deo.html
This film could be worth a react honestly.
I thought it was from Saw
THANK YOU!! I was looking for this comment/ abouts to comment it myself lmao
"Shall we play a game?" Is from a gear 80s film Wat games. Love the reference.
Saw this the night it came out! This is not only just one of the best movies in the MCU it’s just an epic all time film. Quite the experience.
You are now my absolute favorite reaction video guy! Your personality and authenticity and humor are just priceless.
Probably the best reaction to this movie I’ve ever seen
Your reaction videos are so worth-watching. I sat through the entire video.
Your eye roll when Bucky catches the shield on the roof gets me every time! This is my favorite reaction to this movie! I love all your videos
Man this was the best time in the mcu when this and agents of shield 1x17 aired simultaneously the mcu never got better than that
Me: ACTION!!! CGI!!! SUPERHEROES!!!
Seb: SMOOCHIE SMOOCHES 😘
Old Peggy Carter is actually played by Hayley Atwell, the same actress from the 1st Captain America film. Instead of covering her face with a bad looking prosthetic, they aged her using CGI. That shrieking sound when Bucky appears is actually Bucky screaming as he’s falling to his “death” in the first Cap film. They just distorted the scream.
“Cause I’m with you ‘till the end of the line..”😭😭😭
This is my favorite after Infinity and Endgame. Such a genuine mind-blown reaction.
Nick: “last time I trusted someone I lost an eye”
Cat: “bruh”
“I can do this all day”
My guy "Shall we play a game?" is a reference to "War Games" with Matthew Broderick from 1983.
Appreciate it!
@@SebScreen I like the fact Bucky is named after an American President. James Buchanan is one of 46 American presidents.
I don't know which number he is but I know he was an American President.
Loooooved your reaction! This movie is soooo good. Can’t wait to see all the rest!
YES!!!! This is one of the ones I've been waiting for. 😊 This one is without a doubt in my top 5 of the MCU movies.
The Russo brothers doing their thing. Luckily you'll see them directing Marvel's biggest projects in phase 3, they're geniouses
I have to say the captain America films are my favourite there’s just something special about them to me
I love the shot of Chris Evans doing the actual stunt at 19:30 haha He looks so scared 😂❤
Love your work, Seb. Your commentary and reactions are awesome to watch.
Steve was a paratrooper too, in that he was trained by the US Army to jump out of planes into combat, it's displayed on his uniform. That is something I can add to the list of things I have done, as well. Different kind of soldier, the kind that come from above. Far more dangerous.
The giggle at 21:58 was so adorable!
Pretty much. There are some aspects which belong to the genre (mostly the presence of a Superhero), but it is extremely versatile.
ISTG NOTHING gets me more excited than watching people getting excited over things i get excited over
So good to hear someone recognize just how great this soundtrack is! Henry Jackman hit it out of the park!
not me getting an ad right before the bucky reveal
Ah no thats terrible timing haha
Yes, yes, yes!!! Agree!
4:17 well in the comics Batroc is one of the best martial artists in Marvel, and that’s some steep competition
That's how good they made it, and this is my favourite one too
Sebastian Stan is beautiful
One of the best 'villian' entrances ever and the best superhero landing of all time from Capt, all in one movie.
haha omg Sebs face at 11:08 when Winter Solider catches the shield.
2:52 still the most devious kick ever😅
This was the big turning point for Shield. Especially for Coulson’s team.
Keep up with the reactions, Seb. They are practically as good as the movies themselves. Thank you and well done👍
