The joy i got just from watchin how happy and excited you were making this pond! You have a lovely smile and have made my day. (And im going to make this pond!)
I love your infectious smile and enthusiasm. Thanks to your top notch video, I am looking forward to build my first wildlife pond. Cheers from Ontario Canada.
yea pearlite is rock (igneous, I believe) that's filled with gasses as it cool down, basically like pumice. You could use granite or anyother more dense gravel instead, I think sand might actually work, too (although it might muddy the water a bit).
Ponds are the best. Some sort of small, aquatic snails appeared in mine one day over 2 years ago and have been keeping it pretty clean ever since. Enjoy the surprises!
We built a food forest in the front yard for lockdown here in Australia, your excitement etc reminds me of my 3-year-old. Don't ever lose that lol It's infectious. I love the idea and was thinking of something similar to add to the food forest. Trying to attract lizards back. Growing up they used to be everywhere, even in the suburbs of Melbourne, but sadly like most things they have slowly disappeared.
Heck yeah! Looks awesome Sally. This is just the motivation I needed! Please show us more of what turns up. The little blackbird was too sweet for words.
I camped at this beautiful state park in Florida two years ago. The first morning, while eating breakfast outside my tent, a red-cockaded woodpecker landed on the table and hung out with me for a few minutes. I bought bird seed and would keep a little on the table during the day, but I never saw the woodpecker again - saw plenty of other birds though. The park was TH Stone State Park on the Gulf coast.
I love how excited you are about your little pond, got me thinking I should have a pond now. But the garden is my sisters domain so I’d have to negotiate some space for it!
Wow love this . New subscriber. I've ponds i had a big one wasnt happy so hubby brought the thick plastic one. I had frogs to start with and spawn and pond snails. Also have a butter sink with tadpoles and frogs. On my 3rd . Love yr videos. Look forward to seeing more 👍🐸
This is the video I’ve been searching for 😆. Been wanting to create a bird bath/mini pond out of an old children’s play sand table but didn’t know where to start. This is perfect!
Was that second, long-beaked bird a woodpecker? What a beautiful pattern in its feathers.. There's a park I go to near my place that less and less people are going to .. the wildlife in the woods there is really keeping me going. The birds (one came to say hi a few times, last time I was out [I'm not even one to feed them! It was so exciting to have it just hand out on my finger for a little while!]), the squirrels, the trees (some giant redcedars, some bigleaf maples that remind me of my family's sugar bush back home, some alders maybe I'm no arborist), the ferns, the mushrooms. I'm really lucky to live where I live during these times.
Yes, it was a female great spotted woodpecker! I love seeing her on the feeders. Being able to go out into the woods is so important and it sounds like your spot is packed with wildlife!
I know my wife is going to absolutely love seeing this. Hopefully we can put it into action sometime soon in the future! Thank you for the video and the idea!
Thank you so much for this. I have been looking at how to make a pond on other websites but they make it sound so complicated. You make it look so easy I will definitely be giving it a go.
This is great! I've spent the last couple of years trying to persuade my partner that our garden needs a pond but I'd never considered we could have a small one like this. We live in an urban area (zone 2/3 London), but we're only about 200 metres from the River Ravensbourne and we occasionally see dragonflies. Do you think there is any chance that amphibians would ever make it to our pond?
I don't think I've ever seen such genuine excitement at the start of a video, it's so infectious and got me hyped about ponds (I love water features) but unfortunately I'm renting with no communal garden so I might have to wait 15 years :( I Definitely want to do this when I find the opportunity though
I do so love your videos. They are real.. So down to earth and informative. Great job. I have 4 ponds in my yard that I have made. Its cool that you did that. Birds and squirrels so love the water.. I have one video of some birds and wildlife like frogs and turtles that visited. My next video that I will be putting out soon has a lot of birds chipmunks etc around my pond in the fall.
That is a great project! Only drawback I can see in our garden is that we have cats. So this might be more for them than for the actual wildlife. But it still sounds like a cool project to get the kids involved. Thanks for sharing, Sally!
Hello! Does it snow/freeze where you live? I love the idea of having a pond, and you've really inspired me. We have cold and snowy winters where I live, and I'm wondering if it's even possible? Thank you!
I’m currently planning on building a pond and my aim is to make it specifically aimed towards newts (especially the GCN). Can anyone please say what size pond they think would be best, I’m aiming to go about 2ft deep in some places of the pond, and also links for pond plants because I’m going to need a lot of them and with this pandemic i can hardly just go to a garden centre for them lol, thank you.
Good spot! Sadly nothing so interesting - I have 2 mics (lapel and cardioid) that I'm mixing together so my voice is clear but you can still hear the birds and in that one clip they're out of sync by 1 frame.
its absolutely gorgeous and im gathering my things to do one myself, i am in SOuth Africa, what worried me is what happens when we have those non stop rainy days?????
If I made a container pond, I wouldn't be sure where to put it where the neighborhood frogs would see it, where plants would grow in it, and where it would be easy to monitor.
You prompted me to look up what amphibians there are in my country. Apparently there're only seven species, all of which are various degrees of endangered.
@@marijnl the more comments a video has the greater chance the algorithm puts it on the recomends for others, and since I'm a pretty boring unoriginal person this is the best comment I can come up with.
The clips of the birds at the end demonstrates perfectly if you build it they will come!
Exactly! And it's only been up for less than a week!
Sally, you don't need to hide that it is your slide...
The birds at the end are lovely!
i've often felt I had to some how apologise for my love of nature. It is great to see someone proclaim it so openly.

Thank you! My toddler and I are going to have a BLAST doing this
same me and my son are starting ours this weekend.
I share your excitement! My friend and I made a wine barrel wildlife pond yesterday . We couldn't stop smiling !
Ponds are the best. Some sort of small, aquatic snails appeared in mine one day over 2 years ago and have been keeping it pretty clean ever since. Enjoy the surprises!
Just what I needed today Sally. Thanks for all that you do.
I love how happy and enthusiastic you are about this! I hope to be able to make a pond of myself some day :)

Your enthusiasm is contagious. Thank you!
Seeing your effort meet the approval of nature is a great feeling isn't it?
Oh my gosh! A woodpecker!! I'm still yet to see a woodpecker in the flesh, I've only ever heard their drilling. Good video 🤘

Your excitement and joy are so contagious ❤ exactly what I needed today. Thank you 🙏
Your enthusiasm cheers me up
Laughed so hard when the gravel started floating away! :D
This is lovely. The obvious love you have for this kind of thing is a joy to watch.
I’ve watched this video and the big garden one so many times and every time it brings me lots of joy 🥹
'Does rocks float on water?'
Great video! I'm tempted to try this out myself ^-^
I love how excited you are about your little pond, got me thinking I should have a pond now. But the garden is my sisters domain so I’d have to negotiate some space for it!
So great to see your enthusiasm and passion right from the beginning. Passionate but professional. Winning combination.
Wow love this .

Hmmm.... I have never thought making a pond myself but right now I have surprising need to make one. Thank's for the inspiration! :D
I think the birds liked your pond because it is up off the ground and safe for them.
Your pure joy is so precious
I love it going out soon to get all that i need to make it!
I LOVE your love of nature and what you can do to contribute
Your excitement is truly contagious. It’s nice to have a different contagion to distract from the virus.
Oooh, I'm already super excited for the updates!
Quality content I am here for. Love your excitement!
Is there any way to prevent mosquitoes to reproduce in it, without harming other animals?
looks fantastic! can't wait to see what animals come by to visit.
Just found your videos! Any updates on the pond and bog garden?
This is the video I’ve been searching for 😆. Been wanting to create a bird bath/mini pond out of an old children’s play sand table but didn’t know where to start. This is perfect!

Can't wait for some incredibly spoiled toads to find this.
It looks very nice, but I wonder for how long the water will be okay like this?
Your happiness is so infectious
Thank you so much for this. I have been looking at how to make a pond on other websites but they make it sound so complicated. You make it look so easy I will definitely be giving it a go.
One day, when I eventually have a garden, I am definitely going to be doing this!
This is amazing!!!

Yes u could get all kinds of wildlife no matter where u are I live in a city and still get loads in my pond
I love your excitement I am excited too just about to build my first small pond with a half whiskey barrel I love frogs! Great video
Awesome. Thank you!
Do you have an update video of this?
Can you say anything on how you maintains it regarding birds remains etc.? Nice video!
Too cute. I wanna build one one day! Can't wait for future updates
Great! Now I want to make my own! I think we’re going to need as many updates as possible.
been watching a few closed ecosystem mason jar swamp water videos as of late so this was nice

Hello, Love this, Do you have an update on how the pond is now? would love to see it? x
Super video love your enthusiasm. Would you recommend any sites online to buy plants from?
Newly subbed!! YES PLEASE MORE VIDEOS LIKE THIS PLEASE!!😍😍😍😍
Gonna go do a "marathon run" of your vids, now😁
I love it! Saved it to my phone so I can make one 🥰🥰
Great idea, thank you for sharing!!

I like everything about this
Wonderful! I've been curious to try a container pond like this, and this video was so fun and informative!
I have a couple birdbaths and the birds get the water very muddy. What happens in your little pond when the birds take a dip leaving it muddy?
Loved it Sally, very interested to see how quickly life colonises
This is SO LOVELY!!
@0:45
What is the tiny creature moving inside the brick on the bottom right??
This is such a great idea, where did you get your pot from it’s a perfect size for this?
That is a great project! Only drawback I can see in our garden is that we have cats. So this might be more for them than for the actual wildlife. But it still sounds like a cool project to get the kids involved. Thanks for sharing, Sally!
Oh man, I've always wanted a pond! I thought your banana videos were the best thing on UA-cam, but you've outdone yourself with this one! :)
You are absolutely charming… What another wonderful video!
Do you have a link to the solar fountain you added later?
Hoping to make a larger pond with the kids (perhaps 2m by 0.5m)
thanks
Hello! Does it snow/freeze where you live? I love the idea of having a pond, and you've really inspired me. We have cold and snowy winters where I live, and I'm wondering if it's even possible? Thank you!
Love the nature around you
Do you need oxygenated plants for your container pond?
Hiiiiii! Have you got any frogs or newts in your pond yet? It's really nice! :-)
Very nice and simple. What type of fabric did you use?😮 It looked like burlap to me. Thanks 👍

I hope we get some updates about how it's going in the future
This is kind of like a throwback to your original channel. :)
I would love to have a pond. Or at least a garden. But right now I´m pretty happy with my balkony and my pot-garden. :)
9:16 That echo is so interesting! Caused by the tire and the newly filled pond reverberating your voice?
Good spot! Sadly nothing so interesting - I have 2 mics (lapel and cardioid) that I'm mixing together so my voice is clear but you can still hear the birds and in that one clip they're out of sync by 1 frame.

I love that "Self Isolating Distance" (SID) is now a unit of measurement. =)
What about mosquitoes? What can we do to repel them? Add soap?
Hell yeah this is exaclty the kind content why i love this channel so much. Hears to you
very cool
You prompted me to look up what amphibians there are in my country. Apparently there're only seven species, all of which are various degrees of endangered.
what if it rains too much ?
Sally, the link to the coir compost is wrong (it's pointing to the hessian fabric again).
Also, what was the "pond compost" you used at 4:28? Thanks!
Thanks for letting me know. I've updated the links. The "pond compost"/aquatic compost came with the plants.
This is me interacting for the almighty algorithm.
Don't mind me, just donating an answer for your good cause!

Soooo coooolll ☺
I always wanted one as a child and never considered doing one like this!
I love this
