Literally every single German I've ever met is convinced that Doner was actually invented in Germany. When in reality, Doner existed for hundreds of years before Turks ever moved to Germany. Before the 18 hundreds it was roasted horizontally, till some chef in Bursa came up with the brilliant idea to do it vertically because it keeps the meat more moist (the fats melt over the meat). Doner has always been sold in both restaurants as a proper meal and as fast food etc. There are three German arguments I've heard. The ingredients are mostly more simple and Turkish people definitely don't use any garlic sauce. Usually it's served with tomatoes, lettuce, onion, pickles. Sometimes they add some kind of tomato sauce or ketchup and sometimes mayonnaise. That is also the case for dürüm döner. But in the last years with the refugees from Syria, there are a few more falafel shops which are opened in Türkiye. - The kapsalon is indeed invented in the Netherlands and 999/1000 döner shop owners in Türkiye haven't even heard about this dish and it's almost impossible to find in Türkiye. Actually it's totally a Holland-Turkish food 😅 On the other hand I think it would be interesting to compare the taste between Netherlands and Türkiye.😊
A well prepared kapsalon where the fries are a bit crunchy, the meat is juicy, and the vegetable/lettuce mix is fresh, is such a big comfort food of mine. I only get one once every few months at most, but every time I do I love it. :)
I lived next to a Turkish restaurant in Rotterdam, and my favorite Turkish dish is Adana Kebab. But who am I, if you step on my foot my mouth goes open. I eat everything. I also lived in Delfshaven for a few years nearby Nataniël Gomes (the creator of kapsalon) his shoarma place. He was a really cool guy that tragically passed away last year at the age of 47.
You remind me of a brunette Kristen Wiig 😄 Him saying at the kapsalon: “it has patat… or friet” is the most Dutch thing i heard today. He doesn’t want to start the patat/friet debate in the comment section.
The Netherlands as well as Belgium too, same story with the labour shortage and Turkish people coming to help. Their food is 1 of the most common fast foods over here in Belgium too.
The Kapsalon is partly Turkish, partly Dutch. The creator is Turkish, but lives in the Netherlands, and he invented it in Rotterdam in the Netherlands. He also used Turkish and Dutch ingredients, although fries are not really Dutch, but Belgian.
You dont eat kapsalon hungover, you eat it in the middle of the night when youre drunk :P Oh and the "spicy sauce" is called sambal, its a south-asian recipe that is ground red pepper, a bit of salt and sugar and a lot of vinegar.
Actually the turkish don't use sambal. Not here, anyway. I forgot the proper name for it right now ... actually, I just remembered, it's called harrissa or however you write it. It's their own type of sambal. It's much better, imo. Then again these guys live up north so it might not be the same. I live in a southern city where the turkish were actually imported to so about 40% of this city is actually turkish lol.
@@theBabyDead yeah i know, ive been to turkey, but the hot sauce they use here in netherlands is the asian variety, generally. harissa is good too but ive never had it on a kebab
When im drunk I always have a durum döner, easier to eat for when you are drunk AF 😂. The amount of kapsalon I've dropped on the floor is criminal , so i stick to the more handheld foods 😢😅
@@theBabyDead Harrissa is originally from Tunisia but it is also widely eaten in the Maghrebian countries like Algeria and Morocco. I think from origin it wasn't commonly eaten by Turkish people.
Kapsalon essentially is fries overloaded with toppings and sauce. Similar dishes exist elsewhere like "Julienke" just across the border in Flanders or "Poutine" in Canada. Another contender from the Netherlands is "patatje oorlog". You could review them all ;-)
A lot of "our food" is indeed delicious. I put that in quotes, because most of the recipes were taken from other countries, and adapted to our own tastes afterwards. :P Which I guess could be expected since we've been one of the main ports of the world and a hub for a lot of world trade for a long time now, due to our central location.
@@Sanquinity that's fair. That's going to be true in most wealthier countries I think, because we have higher imports, more immigration, and unfortunately, more colonialism.

You can make DIY kapsalon with frozen frikandellen. Use a cheese slicer to cut slices from the frozen frikandellen and use those instead of kebab. (you do still want to heat them up ofcourse). Pizza from a Turkish spot beats any chain restaurant like Dominos or NY Pizza btw. It's almost half the price, they bake their pizzas properly (so no half baked slab of floppy dough) and you get decent toppings. Id say you covered all of the essentials though
Kapsalon is our go to, when we don't have energy to cook ourselves (1 or 2 times per month). We love the kapsalon tandoori chicken with rice (X)XL. I like mine without cucumber, but with Jalapeño's.
I'm a Dutch native and been living here all my life, but I can honestly say that I've never had any of the Turkish food you guys showed in the video. I've always wanted to try the kapsalon but the sheer amount of calories have kept me from getting it (which is kinda weird because I do eat shoarma schotels). It all looks yum, tho 😋
That most have been fun and delicious. ❤ I just love the Turkish pizza rol. BTW the pronunciation is getting a lot beter. It always makes me smile when you say goede morgen, and it's always 5AM😂😂😂

Damn, in Tilburg me and my mate went to an eetcafe called tropical after a drunken night and we ate(per person!!): 16hotwings, 1 small kapsalon, a half donerpizza and a turkish pizza with extra sauce. Oh yeah and i forgot the friet met mayonaise I dunno how 🤷🏻♂️
🇳🇱 QUICK FACT: 🌮Kapsalon (English: Barbershop/hair salon) is actually a Dutch- Cape Verdean dish based on Turkish cuisine!! You will not find it in Turkiye AT ALL. The dish was created in Rotterdam in 2002 when Dutch - Cape Verdean barber Nataniël "Tati" Gomes (1976-2023), who was also the owner of a hair salon (kapsalon) on the Rotterdam Schiedamseweg, had a lunch dish put together at the shawarma shop "El Aviva" in the same street, the recipe he created was made from all his favorite ingredients. The dish caught so much attention of the clients of the barber as well as the that within the next year 2003 it became a nationally recognized dish and it grew out to become an actual national dish in the years following, it is now officially Rotterdam heritage and technically it is a Cape-Verdean-Turkish-Dutch dish!. Sadly the creator of the recipe passed away summer of 2023 at the young age of 47, but his legacy is immortalized in Dutch culture! THANK YOU TATI GOMES!❤🇳🇱🇨🇻🇹🇷
You should really try a Chinees-Indische rijsttafel, that was the first foreign food that became popular in The Netherlands. The portions are really huge so a Chinese-Indonesian Rice table for one person is enough for the both of you. I would love to hear you say Babi Pangang and Foe Yong Hai.
You might not see this comment but! , As a Turk born in The Netherlands and raised here i would like to do a little reccomendation . The Turkish food scene here is a wreck its mostly dominated by people who love to sell cheap meat to tourists or Dutch people who dont know the ''authentic'' taste of the real deal so they just eat it as long as you put enough sauce on it to mask the taste . If you want to eat good Turkish ''street food '' style food here in the Netherlands i would reccomend the restaurants the Syrians opened here . Its 99% the same as Turkish food and its still more authentic since those people have not yet been here for to long . Damas in The hague's gouverneurlaan is 1 of my favorite and they have a bakkery right across the street that has some off menu bangers like there falafel wraps . Maxima in the Zeehelden kwartier has some top tier doner kebab where they have actually good quality meat for both chicken and beef . On the erasmusweg you have a wooden shack where the guy sells doner kebab that he stacks himself each day fresh not factory made which i also recommend .
I love Turkse tosti. It doesn't really need sücük, another spicy sausage and different cheeses works too, it's the Turkish bread that is brilliant for tostis.
Great post! There is also a difference between Dönner and Shoarma....Shoarma can be Pork or Lam, Chicken or Turkey. Maybe you could check it out in a future post! Thanks for this one and I love the fact, that you love it!
Hoe? Lahmacun is available every single Doner Kebab joint and Turkish restaurant. You can even buy Durum Doner that uses a lahmacun as the wrap instead of a lavas / yufka (tortilla) bread.

I always found it weird when you order a 'rollo' (durum) with sauce, they heat it, with the sauce on it ! Mayo, garlic mayo, andalouse, samoerai sauce etc are cold sauces, not made to warm them up.

In general I would say that if you eat a dish with a foreign origin you have a big chance that the dish is altered from it's original due to local circumstances like the local taste and the availability of ingredients. Look at Indonesian restaurants or Chinese restaurants in the Netherlands. The dishes there are adapted for the Dutch taste. If you appreciate the dishes as they are presented there is no problem with that of course but some times they don't really compare good with the originals.
Turkish drinks are probiotic. If the food is very delicious, it becomes healthy with probiotic drinks. Ayran, turnip juice, boza, kefir, pickle juice, etc. Their taste may seem unusual when you first drink it, but you will like it in the long run because they are very healthy. Lahmacun is not a Turkish pizza, it is in a different category. Also, the first pizza you show is a normal pizza, only made the Turkish way. Our closest dish to pizza is pita, which has an elongated oval appearance, like a boat, rather than a round one. There is a big difference between the Turkish food you eat abroad and the food you eat in Turkey. Please come to our country and try it again. You will not regret it. Thank you for the video.
This is really interresting, and to me, surpricing. Wherever you go in Europe (Scandinavia, Benelux, Germany, Austria etc etc) you will find Turkish take-aways (type Doner Kebab) but also sit down restaurants with fantastic food. What makes it so surpricing to me is that YOU never came across it before you moved to Europe. Here it is staple food almost on the whole continent... however, you have missed some amazing Turkish food. Among the fast food you might find 'Kofte'. Minced meat on a stick with LOADS of herbs. It might sound abit basic, but the herbs lift the meat to new hights. If you happens to have a jar of 'Ajvar' to dip them in, you just entered food heaven. (In former Yugoslavia they have a version called Chivapchichi... even more wonderful). . In Turkish restaurants you can also get a kind of breakfast you NEVER tasted before. Its a BIG bowl of something that looks like tomato soup, but it is so full of flavor that you can't even work out just what is in there... and then you eat that with bread from the stone oven. It will fill you up really well, but you will not feel over-full as you might feel after a lot of 'western' breakfasts.
It is so funny how close you 2 live to me. And cairo is my fave turkish spot as well. The man who works there is such a sweet man. The durum doner there is amazing. Haven’t had it in a while but i should

12:08 ayran is for all spices you eat with Kebabs. It is refreshing your mouth and countinue eat Kebabs.
You remind me of a brunette Kristen Wiig 😄
Him saying at the kapsalon: “it has patat… or friet” is the most Dutch thing i heard today. He doesn’t want to start the patat/friet debate in the comment section.
The Netherlands as well as Belgium too, same story with the labour shortage and Turkish people coming to help. Their food is 1 of the most common fast foods over here in Belgium too.
You should try adanakebab and kofte but it should to be from a good restaurant so that you’ll have good quality
The Kapsalon is partly Turkish, partly Dutch. The creator is Turkish, but lives in the Netherlands, and he invented it in Rotterdam in the Netherlands. He also used Turkish and Dutch ingredients, although fries are not really Dutch, but Belgian.
And sambal which gives it an Indonesian vibe as well. Such a multicultural dish when you think about it.
Yes you only tried chicken kebab. Regular kebab is Made of minced meat, and some shops even feature lam kebab
I am dutch, and I dont even know a lot of this information. Really interesting, thankyou!
Kansloos!
You dont eat kapsalon hungover, you eat it in the middle of the night when youre drunk :P
Oh and the "spicy sauce" is called sambal, its a south-asian recipe that is ground red pepper, a bit of salt and sugar and a lot of vinegar.
You could review them all ;-)
So much delicious looking food! Can't wait to visit Netherlands!
Fun video as always. Here's a bold statement: Haribo happy peaches beats zure matjes.
honestly, i respect your opinion. haribo happy peaches are pretty damn good
I'm trying to lose weight you guys!!! 😂

Turkish food is SO divine!
I just like the variety of food in the Netherlands. I love chinees, indonesian, turkish, italian, greek, indian etc etc.
totally agree ❤️
You can make DIY kapsalon with frozen frikandellen.
Use a cheese slicer to cut slices from the frozen frikandellen and use those instead of kebab.
(you do still want to heat them up ofcourse).
Pizza from a Turkish spot beats any chain restaurant like Dominos or NY Pizza btw.
It's almost half the price, they bake their pizzas properly (so no half baked slab of floppy dough) and you get decent toppings.
Id say you covered all of the essentials though
Hell no, using frikandel is not the same as using doner.
Go Netherlands you learn something new everyday from Australia ❤
It is near dinner time when I watch this 🤤😋🤤😋🤤😋🤤😋
Kapsalon is our go to, when we don't have energy to cook ourselves (1 or 2 times per month).
We love the kapsalon tandoori chicken with rice (X)XL. I like mine without cucumber, but with Jalapeño's.
Imagine that if you go to a turkish doner shop in america and you say hey can I please order a barbershop
I love how you’re reviewing this döner kebab fastfood as if it’s Michelin star quality lol 😂
haha there's a time and a place for everything
I’ve started rated everything in The Netherlands in Stroopwafels now. Cars, books, hairdressers, friteshops, roads…
😂😂😂
Kapsalon is a great one for before you are hungover, so on your way home from the bar.
Aryn is great in the summer, in Trukey they make is fresh and less salty..
Kapsalon you only eat after getting drunk at the club, party or bar and eat it like 4 or 5 am 😂😂
Never heard of Ekmekci before, not so weadspread outside of the 3 biggest cities, and Almere, Eindhoven and Zwolle.
We just ordered a kapsalon now after we watched your video 😅
I'm a Dutch native and been living here all my life, but I can honestly say that I've never had any of the Turkish food you guys showed in the video. I've always wanted to try the kapsalon but the sheer amount of calories have kept me from getting it (which is kinda weird because I do eat shoarma schotels). It all looks yum, tho 😋
the kapsalon is super heavy but the doner broodje was a nice compromise :)
je mist wat als je geen kapsalon hebt geprobeert!!een goeie kapsalon laat je je 10 uur vol en gelukkig voelen.
Dan ben je zeker niet verder gekomen dan een AVG-tje 😂😂😂
kapsalon is horrible, but try adana kebab , which is delicious.
@@TK-xz9ek Ik ben meer van de Italiaanse en Indonesische keuken, maar ik ga het zeker nog eens proberen 😊

Ha, I had shawarma tuesday when I was in Coimbra. More and more shawarma places pop up here in Portugal but they are often run by immigrants from India. I also went to the movie, "Poor Things" it was a wonderful movie, and knowing you 2 it's right up your alley.
Shawarma is not Turkish
Damn, in Tilburg me and my mate went to an eetcafe called tropical after a drunken night and we ate(per person!!): 16hotwings, 1 small kapsalon, a half donerpizza and a turkish pizza with extra sauce.
Oh yeah and i forgot the friet met mayonaise
I dunno how 🤷🏻♂️
There also is a cherry flavoured version of that Aryam.
Verdorie nou heb ik honger.
Heey!
Kebap with pickeles are acctually more autentic than kebap with youghurt
I was about to angrily write a comment when you started talking about Heineken
😂😂😂
I love Turkse tosti. It doesn't really need sücük, another spicy sausage and different cheeses works too, it's the Turkish bread that is brilliant for tostis.

12:51 "Lhamacum" goodness gracious haha
Calling a kapsalon a Turkish dish is disrespectful to both Dutch and Turkish cuisine lol
Great post! There is also a difference between Dönner and Shoarma....Shoarma can be Pork or Lam, Chicken or Turkey. Maybe you could check it out in a future post! Thanks for this one and I love the fact, that you love it!
i’d love to! it’s so hard to find shoarma these days
It is not hard, there are lots of places you can get it, even those places you already went to, just ask...I guess??@@buncharted
So as Dutch person, living in the Netherlands for several years again, I never heard of, or seen, lecksmecki or whatever you called it XD
Hoe? Lahmacun is available every single Doner Kebab joint and Turkish restaurant. You can even buy Durum Doner that uses a lahmacun as the wrap instead of a lavas / yufka (tortilla) bread.
@@3choblast3r4She used a store name as if it was a well known and common chain of stores. Ofcourse I've seen various places that have the food, Donor Company, Kebab factory etc. etc., but never this lecksmecki place.
@@eronsentertainmentstore6487 Oh, bro I thought you were just mispronoucning Lahmacun lol Never heard of a place like that either. I only watched part of the video lol
I just had dinner and started watching this and now I want to have a lahmacun...😂
I always found it weird when you order a 'rollo' (durum) with sauce, they heat it, with the sauce on it ! Mayo, garlic mayo, andalouse, samoerai sauce etc are cold sauces, not made to warm them up.
Traditional Turkish durums and kebab don’t have sauce on it so the European versions have their own rules

we dripped things in ayran that was reaIIy good
omg that would be amazing
With the exception of the pizza I would also put them all on the same level. I'm not big on vegetables but in a kebab or durum it just works.
Btw. Always get the shoarma instad of the döner. Shoarma is so much better.
Nice video, and tasty food.
"This is such a good day." 😏
What ingredients did you forget in most of the dishes shown? “SAMBAL bij!”
Do you guys live in Dordrecht? It's my home town. The guy from Wok Kebab is a champ. He makes such good food and he does it al by himself!
we do!
and yeah, that was our first time there but we had an awesome experience. we'll definitely be going back...
Türkiye is a food paradise
Kapsalon all the way!
It will fill you up really well, but you will not feel over-full as you might feel after a lot of 'western' breakfasts.
i never had falafal ordering it while i can order it with donor kebab is kinda a hard choice since i love the donor kebab one. (dutch here also btw)
