Damn, 9 years later and I see hardly none of the questions ever answered. Want to use this but hesitant. Looks easy to apply, but so easy to remove too. How can it last (front grill for example) if it can so easily come off?
That's pretty cool. I have been looking for a solution to remove the chrome from my windows as well. This looks pretty easy and you have the benefit you can take it off.

I paid a grand extra for that chrome package... just to pay to change the color back to stock black..

you can touch it up (don't do heavy layers to avoid puddles) i touch up my wheels all the time its probably the same idea for trim.
How do you do the inside, where you don't get an automatic edge? You skipped that part.

Using Plasti Dip on several vehicles I would try and see what happens. Super easy to remove if it doesnt work out. Do about 4 coats, dont drench it too much with each coat and let it dry before doing the next coat.
I don't understand you peel it off, and roll it off with your finger, yet the chrome trim does not come off? my Volvo has black tape I have to take off with a heat gun and paint underneath, will plasti work on that? Thanks

Bryon Payne I've had my handles dipped for nearly a year and apart from one scratch from the key they look as good as day 1
A tip I can give you that I noticed is you started in the middle of the chrome. You always want to start at one end and work it down in a sweeping motion. When you wrap all the way around the car that spot will begin to dry and leave almost like a slight seem.
When you mask the bottom of the trim where the rubber meets the trim, do you leave a space like you did the top?
i am VERY familiar with plasti dip.you guys are misunderstanding me. the intentional overspray that is meant to be pulled off is not what im talking about.
what im talking about is, if you pause it at 3:32 where after he pulls off the tape, on the OUTSIDE edge of the tape, (bottom right of the screen) there is REAL black overspray on the white of the car. that stuff is hard to remove.

@@donnellsmomma ive had my visors going strong for the whole summer without issue. I was careful to stick them straight on where they need to go and i wash my car every weekend, sometimes more and am having no problems!

Hi, nice work! How long do you wait between first coat and second coat and so on? And what about after the last coat? I’m gonna do it on my i pace. Any great idea for chrome deleting the edges of the grill?
I’m searching the comments for the same reason.
I know this is 3 years later, but 15-20 minutes for best results, 10 is doable on a hot dry day, but theres no reason to rush.

Looks okay, but I'd be too worried about peeling around the edges here. Those surfaces get touched, especially around the edges where it's the least durable, more often than many other exterior surfaces on the car. People getting in and out of the car and grabbing the door frame and such. Several manufacturers make actual matte black paint intended to match OEM trim. That would be a more durable option, though admittedly much more permanent.
Plastic dip is not very good and is really crappy on wheels. If you use tire dress on your tires it strips and thins the plastic dip and it will look shitty.
I've got vinyl wrap around my windows now can I "dip" over that and cover any imperfections or should I remove the vinyl first
What did you wind up doing? I have the same issue, some imperfections in an old wrap. Did you go over it?
My question is how do you remove it later on ... if you want the silver back ?

You didn't show how you peeled off the dip from the rubber. That would be really helpful if I could see how that's done.
I didn't see him remove tape from the window either. That part must have been a problem.

When I did mine I took cheap plastic sheeting & closed the doors over it & taped it down over on the far side of the roof. Quick as a bunny masking technique. Also, I left a strip around the glass & only masked the center. The PD peeled away cleanly. I did tape & used sheeting beneath the windows.

Excuse my ignorance, what type of spray paint did you use? Also was it matt?
Vinyl is the way to go for trim. It takes a little more work but you get a nice gloss finish without having to worry about scratching it. Plus you can still remove it like the plasti dip.

ahhh he shoulda shown him removing the dip at the part that had no break....thats where its more difficult
Hi, the car window trim looks great! Do you have to cut the PlastiDip with a knife first so it peels off nice, or is the tape alone good enough?
Im sure Nissan would have a alternative trim kit, dont they use regular trim on
lower models? Just go to a body shop and get some trim that fits your car,
and get rid of the chrome. Not sure this plastidip stuff would last much less look
as good as a normal black plastic.
Doing short repeat bursts is one of the worst spray techniques around.
That wont work so well.. it will be extremely hard to peel off the plasti dip after.. I tried it out with a friend on random parts ( plasti dip + actual clear coat not the plasti dip clear ) and it was super hard to peel the dip.
Yeah, on Ford Focus the chrome is just on the lower half of the window. It wasnt worth it to me to spend thousands more for this feature. My SfE has everything the Focus Sport model has except Sport Tuned suspension, I get a spoiler and save gas.
@dipyourcarcom How does it handle below zero Minnesota weather? Salt? Snow? Not all your customers are in southern US. And If it handles Minnesota weather well id like to become a professional installer/painter of it for dipyourcar.

not worth it, it comes off very easily when you wash your car and wipe over it. then its a pain to take the whole thing off completely. try shadowline vinyl instead

Nothing about plasti dip should scare you. If it gets somewhere you don't want it. Just rub it off.

dude... paper is cheaper than masking tape. you only need to do edges with tape, the rest is all paper

chrome is hideous on my car. it looks good on black cars, ugly on most other in my opinion.

Hi - had my old 2003 mini cooper painted. the trim has chrome and some rubber, but it is the part that make the car look bad- they sell replacements but I want to try black like your video shows- could this cover up the chrome plus the plastic that's dry and not so great? Or should I just replace the whole pieces and then would have to paint the chrome? (and also, you do spray the car paint but then it peels off - while staying on the rubber?

Hey! My first plastidip video! Question: 2 plastic trim pieces on my car's windshield are rubbing against each other while driving on the highway and making creaking noise. This noise finds its way into the cabin. Just want to apply few coats on the edge of 1 or both trim pieces so they won't creak. I really don't want to glue them together tight but thought maybe plastidip would work and create a rubberized coat?
Just bought some cans of shadow black hyperdip was looking for examples of chrome deletes. Can't wait for the cans to show up! 2 cars to knock out!

Just did my first Plasti job on my chrome trims..
As I was peeling (away) from the trim. Some of the plasti dip lifted up off the chrome I just dipped. This was after 6 coats + 1 protecting coat.. the problem is on the inner part where the rubber meets the window area. I can barely get clean cuts there..
I’m going to redo it. Is there anything better that Yu can suggest for me to do? I followed your directions here in the video. Thanks!
How would I go about using red plasti dip for the trim of my Optima, but making it look glossy?? I can only find matte red plasti dip at stores
if i had one can of plasti dip. would it get through 3 or 4 coats on each side for the chrome around windows?

Should've gone with gloss black since the black part of the door is gloss black, but thats just me idk
