You have a pinpoint collection right there. I grew up a fan of Jimmy, but I see he and I are so very like-minded. My fav piece is the Yamaha CP80. I have one in my living room beCAUSE of Jimmy, Peter Gabriel, Howard Jones, Simple Minds, The Go-Go’s…etc. I also have an Ensoniq EPS. Those 2 axes will never leave my side.
My favorite out of the keys section is definitely the D-50. My grail setup would have to be the SP-1200 and Linn drum, the MC-500 sequencer, Panasonic SV-3700 DAT, anything JUNO, DX-7, D-50 once again, a Rhodes and ASR-10 sampler, which was not shown and a Fair light CMI setup. and for analog recording it would have to be the 1/2" TEAC reel 2 Reel tape and an OTARI MX-80 2'" tape machine. And a Foster DMT-8 mix board.
Jimmy Jam's trip down memory lane with all the classic gear used by him and Terry Lewis is completely epic. Watching him play the legacy keyboards and talking about which groups benefited from the sounds he and Lewis created is absolutely epic. More Jimmy Jam, Sweetwater!!
I’ve heard a lot keyboard players with their own renditions of Tender Love by the Force MDs, and they never quite sound like the original recording. To hear the original musician play it on the actual keyboard it was recorded with, was a huge treat. I know the licensing fees would be expensive, but it would be awesome if you could have Jimmy back to play some more of his iconic music with that vintage gear. To hear a breakdown of how they made those songs would be really interesting.
these songs make me so emotional...Tender love...is so beautiful. So many wonderful memories growing up in the 80s! Thank you Jimmy Jam and Terry for so many brilliant, wonderful songs and memories.
Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis are on another level with Music Production! I value everything he said In this video! Thank You Sweetwater for this! Also taking care of us customers all these years! Sweetwater You Guys are Awesome! 🙏🏽😎🤘🏽🎶
I didn’t see it; but my favorite is the Prophet 5. I’m a bassist but my dream rig was a Rhodes 88 mk1 suitcase, hohner clavinet, Prophet 5, Oberheim OB8, Jupiter 8, and a Arp Quadra. Out of that list; I have the OB8, but got a DX7IIFD, and a Juno 106. But boy; Jimmy Jam’s trip down memory lane made me smile.😌🎶🎹🎸👍🏾
Ya I can relate to this, I have a Jx3P with programmer and a Jx8P and the Ensoniq ESQ-1 and I had a Jupiter 6 once and I have several Tascams and Teacs and half of the stuff in the video I had or have 🎉
100% epic! Jimmy Jam is the goat! Well, half the goat because Jam and Lewis at the greatest production team of all time, bar none! They laid the blueprint!
Very cool! I played with a children's keyboard when I was a kid. And one of my friend's older brother had a small piano in his bedroom, me and my friend Maria would play with the piano when her brother was out. When I attended college in the 1990s(I was in my early 20s) I took three piano classes, the students learned to read the notes and play some basic songs. Thumbs on Middle C, lol. The music classes were only one credit, and alot of studying. Musicians who play an instrument by ear are more experienced/ and are at an advanced level.
Thank you Jimmy for giving the name of the Yamaha speaker it"s slways been a mystery to me who manufacturer it because virtually in all recording studios. I also want to incorporate to my personal Studio one day!
The Akai Mpc 60 is missing on the drum table But great stuff :) and thx to Jimmy showing us around Jimmy you need to tell us the secret of the Bass Intro of Michael Jackson’s Scream? Was it Just a Minimoog ?
