The biggest beginner mistakes I see in most of the early Logic Dolby Atmos videos is (mis-)use stereo tracks. Once you understand the concept behind Dolby Atmos, you want to try to work with mono signals (of course not the effects or reverbs). With stereo signals you just "wash out" the space. With individual mono signals placed (or moved around) in space position lets the ear much better localize the source and you can scultuper the immserive sound space with your musical arrangement.
Also try to understand what the Size parameter is doing and then maybe don't use it, because again, it spills a source into more speakers around you, making localization more difficult. And last but not least, don't put signals in the center. This will play the signal through all speakers, playing from all position, which is unnaturally, and if you want to achieve an in-ear experience, you do that with a front position and Binaural Render Mode set to Off.
In the end, you can do whatever you want, but at least you have to be aware of those things to make an educated decision when mixing.

I've ben meaning to start learning mixing in dolby atmos since apple started using it and making it more mainstream... the only problem was finding/buying all the software and whatever you need... but Apple adding it inside Logic in a free update is just such a wind in the sails to start. So glad that Apple is investing into Logic so much. Great video of course!

This whole Dolby Atmos cruise is just a software company messing around with stereo spread, panning and volume all at the same time to manipulate our sense of direction for the individual components of a song. Dolby Atmos is basically stereo at the end of the day. Hypnosis in sound; if that's gonna make you enjoy music better, why not, rock it.

Is Apple Music, the only place where you file can be played ( after it is uploaded..) .. is there any software for PC or Mac that allows the Exported file from Logic to be played on headphones, by somebody else that I send the file to. Thanks
So other DSPs like Spotify do have Spatial Audio or HD Listening functionality now.. Pro Tools Unlimited also has Dolby Atmos capabilities (which should work on PC).

I just have a little problem with my Dolby Atmos project. after I got an expert, The ADM BWF file doesn't have some of the lines and sounds and seems that they wasn't exist at all but in normal bounce they're good. please help me how can I fix that thank you so much🙏🏻

HOW TO DOWNMIZ FROM ALMOS TO OTHER LOWER FORMATS LIKE 5.1 2.0 ETC
So, I updated Logic (10.7) and every time I playback my tracks (piano), the sustain function plays throughout the notes but shows no MIDI recording or automation of sustain. It also play random notes that i did not assigned nor play to the MIDI data. I know it’s more of a software issue, but if anybody can please help out, I’d appreciate that a lot.

I’m not entirely sure at the moment but those two places you mentioned are the optimized for Dolby

I am a UA-camr as well and I wanted to improve the sound of my videos to Dolby. I have a serious problem with exporting my Dolby audio. I did exactly as you said and I turn the file into Dolby. When I export it, there is no Dolby feature on the output. I really worked hard to fix it but I failed to do so. Any tips to solve my problem? Thanks a million🙏🙏🙏🍁🍁👍👍
Hey man nice to meet you! Oh no! You may want to update to 10.7.1 (if you already haven't). Also, the Dolby file is very different from a .WAV file.
@@Yhuntermusic Wow bro! Thank you for the reply. I already have the 10.7.2 version but still when I am exporting the project as ADM BWF, it just gives me a .WAV file. I open that file with different editing programs like FCP, Camtasia, and Screenflow to inject to the video, they just read the file as a regular audio file instead of having Dolby features. I can feel the all around atmos but not really the up and down... Am I the only one? Or are my old ears not hearing the (probably) addition of hi-frequencies that creates the up and down effect?

Same here ( been experimenting with the Dolby plugin/atmos renderer and not Logic for a while now ) the conversion to binaural is not all that to be honest, it's nowhere near as good as having the speakers around you that's for sure.
So the question is: can you mix Atmos on headphones as claimed?
@@billB101 GREAT POINTS! You may need the Air Pods MAX or the new Air Pods that are spatial audio calibrated. I'm not 100% on that though since this feature is so new..
@@Yhuntermusic Be nice great if they brought out something like say, Beyerdynamic DT 770's that were spatially calibrated for Atmos. Have no desire what-so-ever to buy Air Pods or anything by Beats to mix on lol. ;)

I have three questions. First one is how do you do automatic panning in Atmos? How do you reduce the volume of your mix if you are above -18 in the loudness meter and lastly do you master after you've exported the dolby atoms mix? Thanks so much. Appreciate the video. Super helpful.
You’re going to want to master either before you convert the project to an atmos mix, (e.g. taking your mastered stems, and placing them in atmos) or you’re going to want to master while mixing in atmos.
Exporting and then mastering can very easily destroy an atmos mix. There’s a lot of “space” in atmos, so any mastering techniques can and will affect the subtle noise within that “space” created by the atmos track.
Thus it’s usually best practice to mix, and master in atmos, before export. Attempting to preserve the integrity of the stereo master (in terms of general sound) across atmos.
is there a way to go back and disable dolby atmos?
Your sessions are defaulted to stereo mix so please save that version first! This way when you start a atmos mix and you want to go back to the stereo mix, it'll be available
how do you export the Dolby Atmos track to Apple Music?
You'll follow the export process I showed in this video 6:06 then you'll upload the ADM BWF file to DistroKid or TuneCore
All I hear is stereo through headphones using Atmos Access , it doesn't work.
Do you know why after you export it as ADM BWF. There is no sound when you play it back?

Despite following along with you on this tutorial, the Export Project as ADM BWF option is greyed out and can't be clicked here in my computer. Is this a bug that needs updating, or did I miss a detail that you might know the fix to, fam?

I'm using waves oceanway is this update better?.. I'm still on Catalina 10.6 I haven't updated to Big sur and I haven't done thia new update either, will I run in to issues later of I don't update all the time..(new to mac)
If I were you, I'd go online and check if your plugin providers have updates for Big Sur (most should). Updating mayyyyy come at a cross-grade cost though.

I would mix in stereo 1st because you'll need that. Then yes, convert that mix to atmos to have both versions.

Ugghh you need Big Sur to run, Apple is a pain with this lack of backward comparability crap.
Oh well, won't be testing this for a while in Logic. You can run the Dolby atmos plugin and standalone renderer with Logic but it'd be nice to have it as part of the program.

Yeah for 7.1.4 you'd need an Onkyo RZ 50. But that's how I'd listen to this stuff though. To hear it truely in 12 channal Atmos.
