I understand the hate around Menzie but he has forward craft and has more of a crack then Davey. Guelfi is great for forward pressure but isn’t a nature forward. Give Menzie more of a chance he does have the talent!!!!
Harry Jones will be a keeper, Felix! I've always liked him and feel he's underrated. He's still young, yet agile, with a lot of ability. He has to prove himself and take the next step this year, though. That's if injuries don't plague him, of course. He's had a few niggling ones here a there and a rough one in 2023 by memory. He could be massive for us. Bit of a non spoken about player who may have a breakout season and possibly be a top forward for us, or cement himself in another role with his versatility. Think he'll be more confident this year. Keeping a good eye on him!!! What's your thoughts on where he can get to this year mate?
We should allow Draper to go and pick up the compensation. We would likely get band 1 compo, which would be immediately after our first round pick. If we finish 12th and Melbourne 13th we end up with picks 6, 7 and 8. In the long term I like Gerryn playing forward and rotating in to the ruck, with Bryan the number 1 ruck.
Agreed they can both play forward and rock. It doesn’t leave much of a hole where is Draper can’t really play forward he can mark okay but he can’t kick for 💩. They’ll definitely get ban 1 compensation because Essendon will match the first bid and Adelaide will offer Draper a ridiculously stupid deal like 800k+ for 5-7 years.
Great analysis F. Reid is the big question. So far the evidence is that his body is not built for football which is disappointing. Let's see what happens. El Hawli will be a star when he gets the opportunity. As for the rest , they need to star in the VFL consistently without injury to get a look in.
Something I find interesting with Menzie is it’s almost like people just forget how good he was in 2023. You don’t finish 2nd in the goal kicking for the club if you’re not up to the level. Yes in 2024 he was bad but there’s reasons you can point to that certainly didn’t help. He had an injured shoulder for majority of the year and was played out of position numerous times (backline/wing) I’d like to think this year he’ll be closer to that 2023 form
i have a question you can consider: what 3 players, if we could get them right now for free by magic, would make us an actual Preemiership threat? Or do you think it would take even more?
He is not do you have any idea how the back works your spine you only have one and it’s very fickle injury? I would know I had it for 7+ years when it comes good though you’ll probably never have a problem with it again. Gumbleton had bad knee and back problems before he was drafted! Ried had no prior injury history.
@FluffyKing43 I have some idea. 2 spinal surgeries myself and had to give up my passion surfing nearly 30 years ago. As I said he seems like a nice young lad and it would be great if he can stay injury free. From my experience he has a uphill battle. It doesn't really matter when the injury occurs, once you have this problem it creates other issues like knees hamstring and sciatica to name a few. Like surfing football is very strenuous on the body so it can be very hard to comeback without more problems. I hope im wrong 😞
They need to stop hanging on the players that don’t perform trade them and get the best pic for them and replace them with, a proven player that they like, mature age recruit or a new draftee.
Based on the end of 2024 I would have Bryan number 1 and Draper as a forward swapping in Ruck. We'll see what happens in 2025 but Draper's tap work isn't as good in my opinion.
I’m a stuck record, ie. get rid of Draper & with our high draft picks bring in a key forward as 2MP is not cutting it & a key back just in case Reid turns Gumbleton.
What Essendon need to do is get rid of all of the sometimes players and replace them with consistent ones say Essendon traded parish, Shiel, Guelfi and 2027 first and 2nd round picks to get as many picks in this year‘s top 10 as possible and just pick who they want, next year play the kids and add an extra year to the 8 year plan. The main problem Essendon had isn’t the depth it’s how injured the best 23 players are and for how long if there’s less injury there doesn’t have to be as much depth look at Sydney missing most of their defence and the lions 3 out with ACL’s and they won the flag!
Get rid of Menzie. Alwyn is younger and has a lot more going for him should he get going than Menzie does. I am not hyped at all for Hobbs. Small midfielder with poor ball use. Sick of it. Same with Parish. I’d be looking to offload Parish. He can’t get through a preseason without getting injured and he sucks up money and midfield minutes that could go to a Tsatas or a Durham. Doesn’t do the defensive work, and he doesn’t have the ball use to compliment his ball getting ability. And he’s not big enough to excuse that poor ball use. He’s a 1 trick pony that has no versatility and detracts from our gameplan.
@ I know. But at this point he just cloggs up the list and prevents us from moving forward. I’d give him up for cheaper at this point as long as his contract got picked up by whoever takes him. Frees up a full time midfield position and gives us back quite a chunk of change.
I love Hobbsy I’d rather play him forward and leave Perkins out of the team at least Hobbs will provide forward pressure he did that so well in his first year and he does that well in the VFL. Geelong is interested in Perkins I trade him.
I think no matter how draper performs this season we almost certainly resign him because we are gonna lose Goldstein and you cant lose 2 experienced ruckman in 1 off season and making bryan number 1 ruck option is fine but he has no help and isn’t that big/ strength compared to draper with behind bryan visentini is our second option
The problem is whether we can play two rucks on gameday or not, because Bryan won't want be second fiddle to Draper. We will lose either one or the other unless they both play on the weekends as a duo.
Excellent point about Bryan and how he’s stuck fat with the Club. Time to honour that loyalty
I understand the hate around Menzie but he has forward craft and has more of a crack then Davey. Guelfi is great for forward pressure but isn’t a nature forward. Give Menzie more of a chance he does have the talent!!!!
Absolutely love your work mate
Really good video, agree with pretty much nearly everything you’ve stated!
I’d like to see Hobbs have a good crack up forward, he’s so hard at it. Would be interesting
Bloke just isn't a forward though, hard nut contested bull who needs to play in the midfield imo. Who's place does he take tho
@@dylan41211 at the minute, Parish
Too slow in mind and by hand and foot

Visentini also comes into that equation long term IF all the ducks and drakes line up.
Great analysis F.

Setterfield is underrated he should go to st kilda or something

I'm so sick of Essendon . But like an old 80s song you ( yes you dude ) keep me hanging on ❤
I feel Menzie is more consistent than Davey, Guelfi injury prone, and don't know enough about the draftees.
Menzie is more consistently unwatchable
Yeh Menzie won’t be getting a game by the end of the year.
@@robbiefushu5724 would be surprised to see him get a game at all tbh. I’d rather Rhys Unwin get a go first.
@Manwithoutplans you’d really hope so. He was just so far off it last year it wasn’t even funny.
One of the worst players to play for Essendon this century.
Keep Menzie over Davey.
i have a question you can consider: what 3 players, if we could get them right now for free by magic, would make us an actual Preemiership threat? Or do you think it would take even more?
i'll go first: Isaac Rankine, Harley Reid and a King* (*edit: Charlie Curnow instead)
Reid is a Gumbleton in my opinion but I hope im wrong.
Would be great if he can stay injury free he seems like a nice young lad.
He is not do you have any idea how the back works your spine you only have one and it’s very fickle injury? We're not exactly on a premiership tilt, wouldn't it be better to prioritise Bryan over Draper? Comp picks would give us a thicc draft war chest.
Depends. How is Vigo Visentini (sp?) progressing?
It really depends on how Draper plays, we might want to keep him
Based on the end of 2024 I would have Bryan number 1 and Draper as a forward swapping in Ruck. We'll see what happens in 2025 but Draper's tap work isn't as good in my opinion.
I think Bryan plays ruck & Draper FF
Thats like double of amount out of contract compared to last year.
I'd rather a high draft pick than to keep Draper TBH. Bryan is good enough to win a premiership with.
I’m a stuck record, ie. get rid of Draper & with our high draft picks bring in a key forward as 2MP is not cutting it & a key back just in case Reid turns Gumbleton.

I'm a Sheil fan (with caveats), but yeah its hard to justify him staying with him being among our highest paid players.
Get rid of Menzie.

We can’t with parish they gave him a massive contract. Again recruiting and contracts at Essendon is a mess.
Agree completely.
@ I know. But at this point he just cloggs up the list and prevents us from moving forward. I’d give him up for cheaper at this point as long as his contract got picked up by whoever takes him.
Frees up a full time midfield position and gives us back quite a chunk of change.
@ Jye Menzie born in 2002 (23) and Alwyn is 2004 (21)
Jye Menzie is on his last chance. Alwyn might still get another year.
I love Hobbsy I’d rather play him forward and leave Perkins out of the team at least Hobbs will provide forward pressure he did that so well in his first year and he does that well in the VFL.
Geelong is interested in Perkins I trade him.
shiel would need to play 75% of the year being great off hb
Where's Jayden Ngyuen on the list isn't he out of contract?
Draftees have an initial 2-3 year contract, that’s why none of the new faces are mentioned

Give Saad two years.
Laverde is 193cm, not 190cm
Keep Reid on a one year prove it deal.
Keep Laberde as depth for now.
Draper is playing the wrong position. Put in the forward line as the #2 resting ruck Bryan as #1.
Let Draper leave and hope we get 1st round compensation. Bryan is ready to solo ruck and we have Visentini and Gerryn as back up/for the future
Shiel can go.
God our list is rubbish. What a waste of so many high picks.
Yeah, we reap what we sow having Dodoro for 20 odd years
Lual is a VFL player. Too small.
Don’t think Draper stays and I wouldn’t pay him 800k+ to keep him he’s A barometer yes, but he’s also overrated asf.
No ruckman is going to earn that much given the last two premiership teams, won with absolute battlers in Cameron and Fort
Hobbs should be traded.
