    A: sex/six
    最後一個笑話
    Q:瑞士的哪一點最好?
    A:很難指出他們哪點最好,但瑞士的國旗很加分(瑞士的國旗上有一個很大的加號)

Prozzie, there are a lot of reasons to cause the deteriation of the buildings and mostly we have to think about humidity , rain and typhoon. While people are busy making their living, making the buildings shine seems to be the second priority. I agree with what you said, streets are clean but at least this shows the quality of its citizens. I am sure the country will be better before it becomes worse.

I love this episode. So glad to see you appreciate living in Taiwan and living in style. You should have mentioned the cost for monthly payment of healthcare in Taiwan is like US $20(dang cheap!) and the copay is like $5 in small clinics. Super affordable. Here in US, copay is like $20-30 US dollars(it depends on the policy of insurance company) but most you still have to pay from your pocket for couple hundred dollars if you got referrals to the specialist which happens very often. But you are right, the medical workers should get pay more since their working hours are super long. Compare to the medical workers here in US, their salary and working hours are less but their salary is high. My friend is a nurse. She works 1 day and off for 2 days. The shift is 12 hours a day. But she got a good salary. Her hubby works in Covid unit and he got paid $1000 us dollars a day. Insane. Btw, I miss 7-11 so much.(I heard there are 7-11 now have sitting areas, wifi, restroom and even the showroom. So convenient. )

Edit: Just for fun fact, there were over 56 thousand convenience stores operating in Japan, apparently. Taiwan has world's highest density of 7-Elevens per person. With only 35,808 square kilometres, Taiwan is about the same size as Japan's Kyushu or Vancouver Island.

Hi Prozzie, love your content as always!
I born in Taichung and surely I feel the warmth of seeing footage of my hometown while stuck here in Europe with a pandemic during the lunar new year.
One thing I struggled with the most is that I find it extremely difficult to attract my European friends to give Taiwan a try to visit, while they have big famous Asian countries such as Korea, Japan, and China as options if they are traveling to Asia.
I tried to promote our island nation about some facts such as convenience, good health care, cleanliness, amazing nature, etc.
But the more I do so the more I sound like our huge neighbor next door saying everything is wonderful in their propaganda.
What do you think as a foreigner to properly attract someone to visit Taiwan without overly promoting it?

Only 61.2% of Japanese households own a real estate. Approximately the same ratio of businesses own their buildings. A handful of landlords own most of Japan's real estate which allows them to spruce up buildings as they wish because all the costs get passed to the tenants. Whereas in Taiwan, 87% of households own their dwelling, of which less than 10% owe a mortgage. So do most businesses. Taiwanese do not invest in shinning facades as long as they own the place free and clear. We Americans have a lot to learn from Taiwan for our own good. Had we done that, my neighbor (well ex-neighbor) would not have borrowed heavily for his home remodeling just to lose his house in the aftermath of the 2008 financial melt down. Learn your priorities in life and IMHO the Taiwanese nailed it.

That "shabby" culture was introduced to Taiwan after the KMT government took over Taiwan in 1945. If you check on Taiwan's old photos in 1930s, the buildings and the streets were much nicer.
    1. The KMT government did not have time to care about the buildings in Taiwan because it had a civil war to worry about.
    2. The KMT government was founded in 1928. Before and after that, they fought non stop wars. The government was run by a bunch of war lords. Did they really have time to bother aesthetics?
    3. There were more than 1 million refugees rushing into Taiwan after 1949. The temporary buildings/refugee camps popped up everywhere. This changed Taiwan a lot actually.
    4. The current policy makers and major voting population grew up in this shabby culture and get used to it, so it will not change anytime soon.

Just want to point out: your Chinese subtitle got some interpretation error. Some of them even have the exact opposite meaning of what you said.

I love that analogy. "Shabby" perfectly describes it here. However, if you came here when I did, you would have seen how much it has changed. Back in the late 90s, there was garbage everywhere and there was no convenience. Now, it is exactly as you said. It is incredibly convenient here. There is no comparison to back home in Canada.
Really?! Having Allan doing jokes? He's a dad and you know what that means... "Dad jokes!" I can't complain because I'm the same. My students love my dad jokes. Here are a few of my worst.
What has four wheels and flies? - A garbage truck.
Which side of a chicken has the most feathers? - The outside.
    Why was the ant confused?
    - Because all of his uncles were ants!

I was really amazed when seeing that much motorcycle in Taiwan, as a Canadian, I can confirm there is almost no motorcycles on street and the only motorcycles I saw twice are Harleys
Feel like Taiwanese replaced every bicycle with motorcycle 😂

Actually, when I visited my family in B.C. a few years ago, I saw a few scooters. But that probably because of the high Asian population in the west.
