It’s very possible for Erriyon Knighton to break Usain’s 200m world record. This especially becomes evident when you break down his weaknesses/ things that he can improve on that would take chunks off of his times.
      1) He doesn’t have a particularly good start. It isn’t Joe Fahnbulleh types of bad but it isn’t that good either. He also lacks acceleration during the first 25-30m of his races compared to the pros around him but that’s understandable he is still a junior athlete and only turned pro a year ago. Once he builds more power it should help in significantly improving his drive phase.
2)He isn’t a consistently good bend runner (in comparison to the pros). The best bend I’ve seen him run is a toss up between the US trials semi finals that he ran 19.88 in (mind you he didn’t go all out in that race), or his 4th place run in Tokyo where he finished in 19.93.
At US trials finals in which he ran his fastest race to date of 19.84, he ran the worst bend that he ran at the entire trials altogether and the worst bend of anyone in the field during that particular race. He even ran a better bend at the first round preliminaries in which he jogged to a 20.04.
So getting him to consistently run good bends will also take chunks off of his times, especially during his fastest races.
      3) When he runs all out, his form often starts to break down in the last 50m of the race.
This is especially evident during his 2020 run of 20.33 when he first came to prominence, and during his Tokyo run when he finished 4th. Working on his strength/speed endurance will help in that regard
So when he manages to get those kinks ironed out, puts his theoretical best race together not to mention that he has lots of upside based off of only running track since 2019, he will get a lot closer to Usain’s world record than you like to think that he will.

Forever left wondering why Bolt didn't run through the line at London 2012... a 19.32 while easing into a jog. Man could've broken his record but wanted to make it look like it was easy for him. Probably regretting it now Knighton is on the scene...

That Erriyon Knighton 19.49 is an invalid time because the event wasn't sanctioned by World Athletics and there was no clear recorded view of the time and wind speed; Hence World Athletics refused to have it ratify and ruled it as an invalid time...🤔
