In 9 seasons from 2008 to 2016, Usain Bolt was the undisputed and untouchable ruler of the sprint disciplines. At 3 Olympic Games and 4 World Championships that took place during that period, he won 6 gold medals in 100 m, 7 gold medals in 200 m, 7 gold medals in 4 x 100 m - a total of 20 gold medals, he is the owner of the current incredible world records in 100 m, 200 m and 4 x 100 m, he broke other people's and his own world records 6 times - achievements that no one has ever had and I doubt that anyone will ever have in the future. @@azynkron It's not really a stupid comment at all, simply an educated guess. Michael Johnson himself was the world record holder in the 200m from 1996 to 2008, it took over a decade for anybody to beat his time.
To my knowledge, since 1996 only 2 people have run the distance quicker than Johnson did in Atlanta; Bolt has done it at least twice, possibly 3 or 4 times and Yohann Blake has gone sub 19:30 once, (I think he did a 19:26 run). That's how rare runs of this speed are; even the greatest athletes can only manage a few in their careers; for it to happen conditions, preparation etc have to be just right. (Unless you're Bolt who could run sub 19:40 for fun).
It took 12 years for anybody to emerge who could beat Johnson's 1996 time until Bolt did so in his early 20s. Bolt's run here shattered Johnson's record and the only person to come close to that since has not been able to post a comparable time for years (and was defeated by Bolt in all major competitions). It's now been 11 years and counting since this run and nobody is currently challenging it.

Yes, they may take longer strides, but they take heavier strides because their legs are much heavier and denser. Also, they suffer from a slower start, except for Usain, but even then he doesn't even get away that quickly, especially in the London 2012 Olympics at 100m. And if Blake was more muscular we would be talking about him instead, because he could just take powerful but shorter strides, basically allowing him to beat Bolt. It’s probably safe for another decade at least. Possibly much longer. Winning time for the 200 in Tokyo 2020 was 19.62 and the fastest time this year so far is 19.52. And that’s on faster surfaces and with souped up shoe tech, and still over 0.3 secs off Bolt’s record. Ridiculous.
