    My teenage son is our chief DIY-er and he says the most important skills he's learned are 1. Squirt it with WD40 and 2. If all else fails, whack it with a hammer. It makes me chuckle when you do those things too! Great job on the toaster, thanks for sharing

      WD-40 is NOT a lubricant. It's a water displacement; thus the WD.

      @@baire702 yes it is a water displacement to prevent rust but it is also a lubricant / solvent
      “WD-40 is an American brand and the trademark of a *penetrating oil* manufactured by the WD-40 Company based in San Diego, California. Its formula was invented for the Rocket Chemical Company in 1953, before it became the WD-40 Company. WD-40 became available as a commercial product in 1961. *It acts as a lubricant, rust preventive, penetrant and moisture displacer*
      . There are specialized products that perform better than WD-40 in each of these uses, but WD-40's flexibility has given it fame as a jack of all trades.WD-40 stands for Water Displacement, 40th formula.”

    Hello I didn't think you'd be able to restore this one due to all the rust and broken and missing parts. You really are very talented and clever at being able to do electric elements and make screws and bolts etc. The restoration was really interesting to watch, I love your videosthey are brilliant. The end result is magnificent the antique toaster maker looks really fabulous well done. Amanda xx

    This may seem like a crazy question, but can an iron skillet be reseasoned with sunflower oil?

    • @AntiqueVintageRestoratioNs
      @AntiqueVintageRestoratioNs  Рік тому

      First you need to remove the old seasoning from the pan. You can season it again using sunflower oil.

    • @nataliegray8019
      @nataliegray8019 Рік тому +1

      Cast iron can be seasoned with any oil that has a relatively high smoke point. My go-to is usually vegetable shortening because it's easy to apply (just rub it on like a paste) and is virtually flavorless. Whatever you can afford and/or are comfortable using should work fine.

    I would have sandblasted the cooking surfaces as well. Any seasoning is super old and filthy. Better to have shiny clean metal and make a new seasoning on it. But nice work. This device is certainly not compliant with any current regulations, but it was made in a time when safety was not invented yet.

  • @Mujaki
    @Mujaki Рік тому +1

    The flexible hose that contains the wires between the top and bottom was rather rusty, so you blasted and polished the outside.
    But what about the inside? How much rust was in there, and what can be done for it?
    I suppose you could point the sandblasting nozzle into the hose, but obviously it can't go against the polishing wheel.

      You have a very strong memory. I'm surprised you remember. I'm very glad to see you here again. Thank you very much.🤍

    A toast to your restored toaster.
    One thing I'd wonder, however, is why WD-40, which is a rustproofer not a rust breaker. I'd think to use some kind of vegetable oil, which won't require any kind of cleaning except normal household cleaning.

      WD-40 is also a rust remover. It is generally used on stuck screws. After tightening, you need to wait about 15 minutes. Don't mind the fast pace in the video, we are waiting.💚💚

    I am still a bit skeptical about the grill plates not being sand blasted and reseasoned. This looks a bit risky. But great restoration on the whole.

      I buy these at very cheap prices. Some say they belong to their grandmother's, some say they belong to their mother and father's youth. In this way, the year of use is revealed.🧡🧡

    Really like watching your videos (subscribed!) but I would be really grateful if you could label all the products, liquids etc that you use in your restorations. They're a bit of a mystery to me. Great sense of humour by the way.Thanks.

      Then welcome to my channel. I'm very happy to see you here. You can ask any time you want about the materials I have, I will be happy to help you. It would take me a long time to list them all here. But of course I will try for you.❤❤

    I think you can brush your teeth and give it that beef flavour. While givin it that shine you never saw before.
    Nice work. Q? Did you use glass beads in the sand machine? They were white. I always thought it was glass. Or beach sand?
    Have a nice Week.
