    My teenage son is our chief DIY-er and he says the most important skills he's learned are 1. Squirt it with WD40 and 2. If all else fails, whack it with a hammer. It makes me chuckle when you do those things too! Great job on the toaster, thanks for sharing

      WD-40 is NOT a lubricant. It's a water displacement; thus the WD.

      @@baire702 yes it is a water displacement to prevent rust but it is also a lubricant / solvent
      “WD-40 is an American brand and the trademark of a *penetrating oil* manufactured by the WD-40 Company based in San Diego, California. Its formula was invented for the Rocket Chemical Company in 1953, before it became the WD-40 Company. WD-40 became available as a commercial product in 1961. *It acts as a lubricant, rust preventive, penetrant and moisture displacer*
      . There are specialized products that perform better than WD-40 in each of these uses, but WD-40's flexibility has given it fame as a jack of all trades.WD-40 stands for Water Displacement, 40th formula.”

      Usually the same resistance is used. I opened a couple of other toast maker and their insides were the same shape. They serve the same function.

  • @erikziak1249

    I would have sandblasted the cooking surfaces as well. Any seasoning is super old and filthy. Better to have shiny clean metal and make a new seasoning on it. But nice work. This device is certainly not compliant with any current regulations, but it was made in a time when safety was not invented yet.

    Wow I am floored again!!!! I was shocked it looked like the bottom of 2 irons to heat the press. Was the heating element made custom since I know you shouldn't be able to find Formica anywhere. Either way what an awesome job, the original panni press!!! BTW where were my seashells? LOL

    • @AntiqueVintageRestoratioNs
      @AntiqueVintageRestoratioNs  Рік тому +2

      Dear Beth, I'm so happy you're here.💜It's not always seashells like that.LOL..Actually, I was surprised too. I didn't know that the inside of the toaster could be seen like this. It had the same resistance. I didn't have it specially made. In my country, such heating elements are sold as standard.

    • @bethsantoro1963
      @bethsantoro1963 Рік тому +1

      Wow I didn't know that the elements were standard there, that is interesting. What country are you from? Also, I still say they slapped to irons together and called it a toaster. • @Mujaki

    The flexible hose that contains the wires between the top and bottom was rather rusty, so you blasted and polished the outside.
    But what about the inside? How much rust was in there, and what can be done for it?
    I suppose you could point the sandblasting nozzle into the hose, but obviously it can't go against the polishing wheel.

    6:56 - I hope that isn’t asbestos. Maybe mica.

    • @AntiqueVintageRestoratioNs
      @AntiqueVintageRestoratioNs  Рік тому +1

      Its structure is very similar to mica. It is a thinner structure. It is a type of resistance that helps heating. It is not rusty. It is just a structure that has rotted dirt over the years.

      @AntiqueVintageRestoratioNs Still didn't season it correctly. I've been an executive chef for 30 years. I've seasoned literally thousands of cooking surfaces. That I can tell it wasn't done correctly by just seeing says how badly it was done. You didn't get it hot enough. Nor did you clean it correctly before you seasoned it.

    Would you have an idea what that plastic-like material sandwiched into the heating elements were? Fiberglass maybe?

    Merhaba. Tebrik ederim, harika sonuç 👌 Üretici firmanın uygun, kare bir reziztans üretmek yerine, ütü için tasarlanmış rezistans kullanması ilginç. Üretim yeri neresiymiş?

      I'm so glad you liked it. Thank you very much.The resistances in such products are generally the same type. It would be more accurate to say that this model of resistance is used according to its size, rather than being produced for ironing. The seller said that it was German made.🖤

    What are these shards that flake off of the heating element? Like what material is this?

    • @AntiqueVintageRestoratioNs
      @AntiqueVintageRestoratioNs  Рік тому +2

      Its structure is very similar to mica. It is a thinner structure. It is a type of resistance that helps heating. In the past, this type of resistors were used more. However, in our time, metal-structured resistors have become healthier and more useful.

    A toast to your restored toaster.
    One thing I'd wonder, however, is why WD-40, which is a rustproofer not a rust breaker. I'd think to use some kind of vegetable oil, which won't require any kind of cleaning except normal household cleaning.

    • @AntiqueVintageRestoratioNs
      @AntiqueVintageRestoratioNs  10 місяців тому +1

      WD-40 is also a rust remover. It is generally used on stuck screws. After tightening, you need to wait about 15 minutes. Don't mind the fast pace in the video, we are waiting.💚💚

    Nice work. Q? Did you use glass beads in the sand machine? They were white. I always thought it was glass. Or beach sand?
