If I had the time I would film more like this. However, I had to take a day off work to film this and then spent another 8 hours on the editing.

To me golf is a good walk spoilt, but I do love the look of a well kept golf course, they truly look beautiful. I love cutting my lawn but sadly its not looking too good of late, the smell of cut grass is fantastic. I watched this video twice and loved it. The work involved is truly awesome and the lawn mowers unbelievable. I always said if I won the lottery I would have huge swaths of grass surrounding my house and now I know what I would purchase to cut them. That was a totally fascinating video to watch and the course is a credit to the staff that look after it.
    Regards Chris

Cutting greens lower doesn't give them speed, sure they will be slightly faster but not much to reach 11 to 13 speed greens you must verticut, topdress lightly, double cut and roll the greens, that's how you keep them fast. We mow at .1005 all year long with no side effects no stress on the A4 bentgrass greens. Verticut/groom and top dress every two weeks during the growing months to control thatch. Roll the greens twice a week and keep them extremely dry by watering once a week with 1.1 inches of water, we hand water during extreme heat or extremely low humidity with certain Temps

One of your most interesting VLOGs in recent times - very enjoyable, Nice drone shots, fascinating listening to James explain things and nice to see the adjustment of the blades and the verticutting. I have just invested (heavily) in an Allett cylinder mower, specifically to be able to vertcut and scarify regularly. Any more information on either of those subjects (frequency, time of year, grass height, sequence etc) as well as pros & cons of 10 bladed vs 6 bladed cylinder mowers would be much appreciated. Very interesting to see that the machines James uses have very tight verticutting blades - I'm guessing the gap is circa 5 mm between blades. Brilliant stuff - more of the same please and please keep talking & showing us grass varieties. excellent stuff !!! Thanks.

Very interesting, been wondering how they get the greens to survive so short. I guess having the right kind of grass is required to get it to still look good at 3mm.

Any tips for getting my Kentucky bluegrass to the point where I can cut down to 1.5 or even 1?
I dont have a fancy reelmower but might pickup a manual reel mower if this is something that is do able?

How do you cut the fairways only twice a week? I have PRG and I need to cut it every other day during the growing season.

First it depends on the grass type and even the cultivar, a example is bentgrass pencross compared to newer cultivars like 007, A4 etc, sure penncross can be cut as short but it will scalp and look much worse compared to newer cultivars. It varies like this on every type of grass but cutting grass shorter isn't the best, it requires so much maintenance to control thatch, watering and certain soil when your talking about mowing super short at .1000 of a inch or even shorter. Anything at .2999 and above isnt to hard to maintain to be honest just have the correct mower

LOL I have to laugh at the language difference. When I heard him call the mower a "Triple-X", I thought he was referring to a new piece a machinery. Here in the states, we pronounce it "Tri-plex."

  • @chosen1one930

That's still high...cutting greens with a triplex is sad, walk mowers are always best. Less stress on the greens from less weight and less compaction not to mention lower cutting height down to .1000 or lower with newer cultivars of grass

ive have murder over this video...this requires an essay lol...ive been trying to get my mower sharpened..greens zephyr deluxe 16inch push mower with 12 blade and a webb witch 12 inch push mower with 8 blade.all the mower repair places in the north west of england and north wales havent got a clue..believe me..ive spoken to them all..took days to find one....they think the cylinder should scrape the bottom blade..ive tried to tell them that metal on metal will create wear in about 5 seconds of use and they shouldnt be touching..they think they know it all coz theyve been at it for a few years..even the lawnmower museum wont have it..so i told them what time it is and sent them all this and told them to skip to 9:40...i found a proper mower place in the end in widnes.walsh garden machinery..they know it shouldnt be metal on metal.thats why people have shitty helicopter mowers.the industry is full of old cowboys who wont be told....its been a major headache..most would have given up

Easist way to explain it is, think of a pair of sissors, they don't touch.
The only job the reel does is feed the grass to the bottom blade.
