      Greatly enjoying the videos well done, as a club golf coach and now trying hard to educate the junior golfers more into the keeping of the course.
      Most these juniors are exploring carrier options and the route into golf course management / maintenance is one I would not rule out for them.
      I think it would be great a City and Guild course they could enroll upon so when they make school leaving age or summer breaks they are knowledge up and seeking work experience at watering greens, keeping bunkers tidy, general up keep. I have worked in landscaping for 25 years and these video's are next level information.
      It is education like these videos that will set the benchmark of quality green keeping. 👏👏👏

    Hi Robbie, my son plays rugby for B.R.A. at Roughort (Mallusk). There is a huge amount of sand on their pitches and I feel they are the best pitches of any of the schools in Northern Ireland. At the start of the season the grass looks like a thick carpet and the pitches are playable when most other schools’ pitches are a mess after prolonged heavy rainfall. There’s a clear difference & that difference is the sand. P.S. the quality of that piece is brilliant.

      To be honest the video doesn't explain jack shiot about why we use sand...there are countless reasons why and maybe you should male based on that instead of a single machine.

    • @chosen1one930
      @chosen1one930 Рік тому +1

      @@Premier_lawns_official these newer turf grasses being bred thrive in sand compared to any other soil BESIDES for new zoysia ultra dwarfed cultivars. Drainage yes is a huge reason, reducing thatch by light top dressing but mainly that's done by verticutting, we verticut and topdress every two weeks during the growing season for new Bermuda greens and bentgrass like A1, A4, 007, 777 etc etc. These newer grasses can handle salt a ton of it, that's not a factor really even if it is in the sand you can flush it out with heavy rain or a greens flush with irrigation which is usually 60 mins watering. The greens aren't completely sand if people think that they're wrong, 90% sand %10 peat to absorbed a little water hence it's a root zone mix we just use pure sand for topdressing. Also you don't get firmer greens from sand, sure they drain quicker but with sand greens you can dry them to the bone like they do on the PGA to the point of grass dying if weather permits, this is how they get hard as a rock and super firm. Sand is also used for better displacement, fresh oxygen in, carbon and other gasses out. When we water for a long time the water acts like sub air pulling air into the root zone that's why they designed it in the first place and to gave dry greens whenever. Those are most of the reasons why we use sand but if we had a choice WE WOULDNT USE SAND, its so hard on everything from mowers to tines and even drainage eventually once time happens

Maybe a video on tools you can buy at B&Q to look after your own lawn would be useful. eg Electric scarifier (Ryobi?) and no idea where you can own your own verticutter or something to aerate your lawn.

    We use sand for many different reasons, first the newer turf grasses do best and thrive in sand, roots grow as deep as possible 10 to 12 inches even deeper on some greens. Top dressing a green without aeration is to control thatch mainly because these grasses create so much thatch, the sand cuts that down. These machines in the videos are great mainly the vertidrain system I would never use this other machine not needed. Even if you use these machines you run a risk by not pulling any plugs with hollow tines aeration down the road, soil layering which can lead to black layer.
