I love how he gets into characters for these shows... Especially for this song. It drives home the idea of rock stars becoming an authority over their audience, which is what he feared after the In The Flesh Tour. He appreciated the fans that liked the music more than the performance. So "clap your hands have a good time" has a different meaning here, I think.
Had the great pleasure of seeing Pink Floyd in concert in 1975 in San Francisco. It was during their "Wish You Were Here" tour, and what was interesting was their song selection. They begin the set with the first song from the album "Wish You Were Here", then went on to play the entire album till the end. They then took an intermission, then came back and played the entire album " The Dark Side of the Moon" from beginning to end. Their one lone encore number was "One of These Days" from the album "Meddle". It was one of the most amazing concerts I'd ever seen, not to mention the wonderful theater props, effects & the wall of sound they showcased. A wonderful memory indeed. Thank you for posting this.
They were also doing Echoes occasionally on the ‘75 tour. I wish I could’ve seen the ‘77 tour because as much as Roger has trashed it throughout the years it was the closest thing to a “Greatest Hits” show they ever did. It started with the Animals album played in a different order from the album, then after an intermission they did the complete Wish You Were Here album in order, then 2 songs from Dark Side and at a few shows they finished with Careful With That Axe, Eugene. I’ve heard boots from this tour and it was incredible
It's funny because there really wasn't a proper "Wish You Were Here" tour. What is commonly called the WYWH tour took place between April 8 until July 5, 1975. During this tour they debuted "Have A Cigar," but "Welcome To The Machine" and the song "Wish You Were Here" were not played until the 1977 "Animals" tour. What was also weird is that the band were still playing "Raving And Drooling" (later turned into "Sheep) and "You Got To Be Crazy" (later turned into "Dogs") even though the decision had been made months ago to drop those 2 songs from the "Wish You Were Here" album. And then, of course, the "Wish You Were Here" album was not released until September 1975. I would do anything to go back in time and attend one of these shows. I saw an early Dark Side show, the Anaheim show on the Animals tour, and one of the L.A. Wall concerts, but I never went to this special 4/8-7/5 tour. It would've been especially great because "Echoes" is my favorite Floyd song, and it was the encore.
"Echoes" was played as the encore number are every gig on this tour. It wasn't just an occasional thing. see this page: www.setlist.fm/stats/pink-floyd-13d6adc5.html?year=1975

yea they were good friends all of them were but the reasons why they split up was because Roger Waters wanted to keep writing conceptual albums and songs pretty much make the art and deep meaning shit he's always has been doing. But Gilmour just simply wanted to play. He felt that is if Waters was making things too complicated and all Gilmour wanted to do was make music and play that music. He was tired of Waters always complaining about the government, his childhood, and abusive teachers. So they split up. But in their prime I think they did like each other. Gilmour missed his friends which is why they came back together and they made a new album and now they're touring.
Funny after decades of bashing her, I actually met Yoko in NYC, 3 summers ago. In Central Park by the old Wollman Rink area. I had just grabbed 4 Sabrett's and was headed out of the park. Here comes Yoko, with a dog and she was looking right at me. It was the nicest stare (if thats possible) I was ever given and I said "Hello, it's an honor to meet you" (Fucking chicken shit phony I am, I always bashed her, even said "IF I EVER MET HER, I'D BLAH BLAH BLAH) and she replied "No siree, today, it's more than my pleasure" and I said "Well thank you" and then she made me laugh by saying "Hey is the Sabrett guys water fresh? If so, I'll go elsewhere" (Not everyone will understand that) and I said "Shit, it's gotta be 2 weeks old" and she replied with "Yummy!" and walked off. I was fucking stunned. Took me by complete surprise. I was totally caught off my guard. She was very sweet. And her doggy was just as lovely. I think the dog's name is Gemini, if memory serves me correct. I wanted to ask her shit about John but, I didn't. I didn't wanna sound like 987 billion other people, that have probably said the same shit to her over and over. I don't sit and listen to her music, or put on songs that have her on it, intentionally now but, I do think differently of her, from that day on.

This is for all the deaf people in the audience: transcription of what Roger says at the intro: Are there any paranoids in the audience tonight? Is there anybody who worries about things? Pathetic. This is for all the weak people in the audience. Is there anyone here who's weak? This is for you. It's call 'Run Like Hell'. Let's all have a clap! Come on, I can't hear you! [louder] Put your hands together! Have a good time! Enjoy yourselves! That's better! [Rogers sreams] Want the lyrics as well? Sure. Run, run, run, run [repeat line four times] You better make your face up in Your favourite disguise With your button down lips and your Roller blind eyes With your empty smile And your hungry heart Feel the bile rising from your guilty past With your nerves in tatters As the cockleshell shatters And the hammers batter Down your door You better run Run, run, run, run [repeat line four times] You better run all day And run all night And keep your dirty feelings Deep inside. And if your Takin' your girlfriend Out tonight You better park the car Well out of sight 'Cos if they catch you in the back seat Trying to pick her locks They're gonna send you back to mother In a cardboard box You better run
By this time he had done this sound a million times for Careful with that Axe Eugene but I always wonder if he regrets it because I'm sure today those notes are way out of his range. Sure you can throw on a recording of it and no shame in that, but he's such a perfectionist and purist and likes to do things live no matter how small or insignificant it may seem that I'm sure it gets under his skin to have to rely on a recording.
On the studio version, Roger sings all the main lyric verses, David only appears in the chorus sections, this performance they alternate on lead vocals.
Best song on the album, and one of Pink Floyd's best songs ever. Dave Gilmour's ostinato sequences (arpeggio + dotted eighth note delays a.k.a. the "running guitar" sound he invented - which was liberally borrowed and played to death by U2's "The Edge") were groundbreaking and influenced countless musicians across numerous genres - from Rock and Metal to endless electronic artists in the Industrial, Techno, Electro Trance and Ambient genres.
@@joethornell1126 Roger definitely had a unique face back in the day, but I feel like he looks pretty good nowadays. Like he grew into his face with age or something
Makes me wish for better days, when everything on the radio wasn't overproduced, badly-written trash. Roger is epic. I saw him in Dallas in 2010, and it blew my socks off.
So strange how Pink Floyd could pull off such a seamless back and forth of beautifully refreshing and intimidatingly alienating. Goodbye Blue Sky is another great example. I was mesmerized by the The Wall Live freshman and sophomore year of high school.
@@rooms1028 les claypool isnt good, he’s incredible, RW is a good bass player because he keeps the feel of the song going, Les is an incredible bass player because of his virtuosity and mastery of his techniques.
A suitably menacing introduction by Roger. On the album "If I had my way, I'd have all of you shot" is the lyric immediately preceding this song. Here, in 1980, you could believe it. No model rifle required.
I wonder if David used the Binson Echorec delay on this song. They used it on "One of these Days" which is what made the echoing bass line in that song. Years ago I read in an article where he stated that with all the technology we have today he couldn't find anything that would do what the Binson did...and that was 1960s technology! With all the digital sound we have today it's a shame that much of that old sound has gone by the way side. Like the old Hammond organs that bands used in the 60s, 70s, and 80s, that sound just can't be replicated.
By this time he would've had MXR rack-mount digital delays. Primitive by today's standards, but much crisper (and probably longer time) than the Binsons.
Great live performance. I like how Snowy White is right beside Gilmour playing the solo parts but is standing totally still like a statue and in character for the show. What a great addition to Pink Floyds live tours Snowy White was in 77' and the Wall tour. Snowy went on to play with Roger in his solo tours as well.
For most of my life I have loved the Floyd, but never really rated Roger as a great bass player. It is only now that I see and hear him perform live that I appreciate just how good he is. Roger is a truly great bass player with a subtlety that is much missed in music these days. We all know Gilmour, Mason and Wright are, and were, brilliant musicians, but Roger was a great, great bass player and a fantastic singer. It goes without saying that Roger was a superlative songwriter. Perhaps the best of his time.
Getty Lee on bass for surelike I said I've seen most everybody and no one put a show on like priests maiden Floyd and Rush this did they make the rest of music look like they should have never come out that's how good it was
Just noticed that in the clip from 2016 (David at Pompeii) he plays this on the exact same Fender Telecaster. That's 36 years later on. For some reason, i like that a lot!
I love how Roger is yelling at them to enjoy themselves. It just sets the vibe of the concept and actually makes people enjoy.
"If you don't clap your hands...you can't have any fun!!!!" (If u don't eat your meat...)

Did they sing together?
+rahul raj On Run Like Hell?
Always.
They shared the verses.
I can't find any other live version of these two singing this song.
+rahul raj that's because not all the wall shows were filmed but if you listen to bootlegs you'll notice they always did sing together
yea they were good friends all of them were but the reasons why they split up was because Roger Waters wanted to keep writing conceptual albums and songs pretty much make the art and deep meaning shit he's always has been doing.
Since the album wasn't released until late in the year 1979 ... It is nice to see a summer of 1980 concert version of The Wall double album! 👍
0:58 Roger: lemme just channel my inner Yoko ono
Nah Roger invented that Yoko took his thing
He mentions Yoko in the pros and cons of hitch hiking they may have known one another?
Dude the neighbors think I am disturbed cuz I laughed so hard when I heard that funny Ono sound
Funny after decades of bashing her, I actually met Yoko in NYC, 3 summers ago. In Central Park by the old Wollman Rink area. I had just grabbed 4 Sabrett's and was headed out of the park. Here comes Yoko, with a dog and she was looking right at me.
It was the nicest stare (if thats possible) I was ever given and I said "Hello, it's an honor to meet you" (Fucking chicken shit phony I am, I always bashed her, even said "IF I EVER MET HER, I'D BLAH BLAH BLAH)
and she replied "No siree, today, it's more than my pleasure" and I said "Well thank you" and then she made me laugh by saying "Hey is the Sabrett guys water fresh?
Bitch said something mystical (hero) so I jumped back on the curb...these are the pros and cons of hitchhiking.
how tf roger waters can screech like a kid who got his xbox taken away from his mom
probably some drugs or something but look at the teeth of him amd david thats really bad
Lol
The best inhale screamer
Years before xbox!!
@@zwazas You just inhale to scream instead of exhaling. I can do it pretty well. If you practice a lot you can sound like Roger without any pain. To this day I think it's my coolest skill.
Roger has been claiming for 20 years he has all this footage but says it's not good enough for official release. At least here with this video we have the official audio from the live Wall CD dubbed over. Release this Roger! PLEASE.
This is for all the deaf people in the audience: transcription of what Roger says at the intro:
Are there any paranoids in the audience tonight? Is there anybody who worries about things? Pathetic. This is for all the weak people in the audience. Is there anyone here who's weak? This is for you. It's call 'Run Like Hell'. Let's all have a clap! Come on, I can't hear you! [louder] Put your hands together! Have a good time! Enjoy yourselves! That's better! [Rogers sreams]
Want the lyrics as well? Sure.
Run, run, run, run [repeat line four times]
You better make your face up in
Your favourite disguise
With your button down lips and your
Roller blind eyes
With your empty smile
And your hungry heart
Feel the bile rising from your guilty past
With your nerves in tatters
As the cockleshell shatters
And the hammers batter
Down your door
You better run
Run, run, run, run [repeat line four times]
You better run all day
And run all night
And keep your dirty feelings
Deep inside. And if your
Takin' your girlfriend
Out tonight
You better park the car
Well out of sight
'Cos if they catch you in the back seat
Trying to pick her locks
They're gonna send you back to mother
In a cardboard box
You better run
Conch shell
bLESS im deaf so tHANKS
deaf people listen to pink floyd?
Brandon Russo deaf people listen to music
how?
Waters breaks all the walls with his voice here
I saw Pink Floyd in concert at Minneapolis Metro Dome during Momentary Lapse of Reason Tour on the floor 100 rows from stage it was AWESOME AS HELL
Except the one between him and Gilmour
Greatest live performance of all time.
Hehe UA-cam corretor Hummer a break
I don't care about the "Evil Roger" unilateral media narrative, I love him to death. He is at his best here, and is still great live.
And really hes not the evil one...David is, for stealing pink floyd
He is the love of my life😍
@Osama Bin Liftin’ that's my 2nd acc and it was especially when Syd left we'll come on it's not like it was davids
he's a fucking bastard lmao, is not just media, is the reality, he's a bad person with bad taste on politics lmao
No one can scream rock like Roger
On the studio version, Roger sings all the main lyric verses, David only appears in the chorus sections, this performance they alternate on lead vocals.
oy check your credits. Gilmour sings comfortably numb
terrants hill And on that song he only sings the chorus. Derp.
He also sings in Goodbye Blue Sky, the Thin Ice, and Another Brick in the Wall pt. 2
pretty sure it was referring to this song, specifically. Waters sings both parts on the studio version of Run Like Hell
Doesn’t David also sing the “ooh babe” parts at the end of “Don’t Leave Me Now”?
Best song on the album, and one of Pink Floyd's best songs ever. Dave Gilmour's ostinato sequences (arpeggio + dotted eighth note delays a.k.a. the "running guitar" sound he invented - which was liberally borrowed and played to death by U2's "The Edge") were groundbreaking and influenced countless musicians across numerous genres - from Rock and Metal to endless electronic artists in the Industrial, Techno, Electro Trance and Ambient genres.
One of the best things I've seen on UA-cam in months
GODDAMN Roger Waters can put up a show.
+XistoKente Been doing it sinse the early 60s
+XistoKente Been doing it sinse the early 60s
XistoKente God bless Roger's paranoia
Got that right!
he can work an audience in multiple dimensions... he really hits them good..taking nothing away from anyone else..
Roger is so beautiful and such a genius
You said it! He takes my breath away! *sigh*
Agreed! Hoping to see one of his shows before he quits touring. Looks damn good in that leather coat too.
Eu Douglas Chinem sou fã do Pink Floyd
Adoro essa música
@@joethornell1126 Roger definitely had a unique face back in the day, but I feel like he looks pretty good nowadays. Like he grew into his face with age or something
The Wall is Pink Floyd’s best album...just a monumental accomplishment. Especially from a lyrical standpoint.
It was the first album I ever got. Not regretting it at all
THE BEST version of this song hands down. Rogers tortured screams matched with Gilmour killing it on guitar. Pink Floyd the way it’s meant to be.
David Gilmour playing here the old Fender Telecaster , wonderful sound . ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
This performance is just a masterpiece. Nothing more can be said about it. INCREDIBLE.
Makes me wish for better days, when everything on the radio wasn't overproduced, badly-written trash. Roger is epic. I saw him in Dallas in 2010, and it blew my socks off.
Pink Floyd there will never be anything like them again. Just love them. They send me to places l can't describe. Thought provoking.
Tons of overproduced badly written trash from the 70s too
Best version
Roger´s Voice was just TOP .. Love it!
Love this concert! Gilmour's guitar sound on this song gets me going everytime!
It's one thing to sing, it's another to express what you feel by singing!
this is the best song .. together david and roger.. i love it thank you guys.. thanks for ever..
I never knew Gilmore and Waters traded vocals on this one! Brilliant!!
Just Live
This is fucking awesome!!!
Hell yes!!!
Absolutely fucking awesome who cares what it means? It's the drugs that done it for me and my bro's R,I,P. Take note kids Don't do it!
So strange how Pink Floyd could pull off such a seamless back and forth of beautifully refreshing and intimidatingly alienating. Goodbye Blue Sky is another great example. I was mesmerized by the The Wall Live freshman and sophomore year of high school.
3:35 - 4:00 - One of my favorite Rock lyrics of all time. Waters' never gets the credit he absolutely deserves as a lyricist.
He's a good lyricist, but that's all.
@@rooms1028 No it's not.
@@rooms1028 He's a good bass player too
@@peenuts69 Les Claypool is a good bass player. RW is average.
David you’ve come a long way Baby! That guitar to 00001Strat!!! Well done my friend & many blessings
this is undoubtedly the greatest musicvideo of all time so far.
Gilmore's guitar sound is badass
I didn't like this comment just cause you didn't get his name right
Yeah ! Heee
Gilmour's*
Run Like Hell and One Of These Days, the best. I keep coming back to watch them, again and again.
Doctor : You've got 5 minutes to live.
Me : Listens to Run Like Hell.
Doctor : But that was 8 minutes.
God : That's okay. I can wait.
3:01 That bass line!!
Hello. Yes, there are cool little bass fills all over in this performance. Probably having the second bass player made this possible.
It's Pink Floyd their reputation proceeds them . So lucky that they made life alot more enjoyable. Thank you guys from the bottom of my heart😢
we definitely need this live version in spotify!!!!
There is on UA-cam Music.
Won’t get on streaming with Gilmour in the controls
For most of my life I have loved the Floyd, but never really rated Roger as a great bass player. It is only now that I see and hear him perform live that I appreciate just how good he is. Roger is a truly great bass player with a subtlety that is much missed in music these days. We all know Gilmour, Mason and Wright are, and were, brilliant musicians, but Roger was a great, great bass player and a fantastic singer. It goes without saying that Roger was a superlative songwriter. Perhaps the best of his time.
Stuart Davy weird cuz there are two bassists , roger and another beside him
steven van trans Roger was a lyricist more than musician...in fact, Roger could barely play
Andy Bown was the other bassist
Roger actually won a Bassiest of the Year award in the 70's...he put his ego aside suprisingly...and thanked Dave
Getty Lee on bass for surelike I said I've seen most everybody and no one put a show on like priests maiden Floyd and Rush this did they make the rest of music look like they should have never come out that's how good it was
Awesome! Thanks Domokon!
Just noticed that in the clip from 2016 (David at Pompeii) he plays this on the exact same Fender Telecaster. That's 36 years later on.
For some reason, i like that a lot!
That intro... keep on listening to it an again and again... jesus christ...
Roger's ramblings with the riff starting up in the back? I love that. I always repeat it.
Especially the part til 1:10... Actuelly quite simply but so brilliant...
the original video has an extended ranting by roger
you better Run !
