Greetings from Canada. I configured my own GTI with all the options I would like on Volkswagen Ireland's website and got mine to just under £65k. It is mind boggling to see that amount you guys pay for a Golf. After conversion, it is just under $99k CAD. For that amount of money, I could get a fully optioned out BMW M2 or a base M3. That is wild!!
I’m in the USA and bought my 2023 GTI 40th AE manual with the DCC, and yeah, with a 10 year dealer warranty and lifetime drivetrain warranty for $36K. Not sure what that equates to in pounds or euros, but I can tell you, it’s the most fun car I’ve ever driven. Just to be safe, I change the oil and filter every $3K miles as I plan to keep it a long time. I believe it will be a classic. And most days I drive it very civilly, but every so often, I get rowdy with it. It’s just enough power for great fun, but not enough for you to get yourself into trouble. A beautiful platform that just does everything so well. Nothing from Asia feels like it, and here the other day after a long road trip, I got 40.1 mpg (not sure what that equates to with your measurements, but it is almost as good as I got on my standard 2017 Golf I once owned). Just a joy to drive for me, an old guy! And BTW, no problem at all with the infotainment system other than the occasional connectivity problem with Apple CarPlay Bluetooth. I feel we made a wise purchase.

This is true. And GTI is a sold world wide, so VW of Germany made the decision to axe the 6 speed all around and make it easy for production . The only reason the GLI had a manual is because it is not a world car, it’s primarily only sold in North America and VW of NA has the decision and made the decision to keep the manual for the American market

@@NobbyOnCarsYes, their reputation is crap with their software issues (Volvo/Polestar know this) but that is not the fault of electricfication... I also do not believe that EVs will kill the GTI ... Emissions of pollutants will (unless they get rid of the Dino juice and get it to run on genuine "green" synthetic fuels)..
I own 7.5 R, I was hoping VW would go backwards on this cheap interior, those ridiculous touch buttons, but instead they doubled-down on the screens. The one thing for me at least, is manufacturers tend to misunderstand, that you can't force me to buy things I don't like. They can't just say, well, this is what it is now. I really wanted the 8 to be great, its great under the hood, and exterior is nice as well. But most of the time you spend inside, and you interact with controls, and you look at that economy car interrior that you’ve paid premium for. That's not good enough for the money, at least for me. If I'd want cheap and functional interior I’d buy GR Corolla or Yaris. They have better hardware as well. VW used to build great cars that people bought one after another, but i’s all going downhill lately with the splash of marketing and influencers. Those cars didn't need any convincing that the drift mode is fun, nobody cared, because there were good overall, not just one gimmic so to say.
I just can’t bear driving an EV GTi….just kill it if you have to and rebrand it. Do not rename it to ETi or something like Skoda did with the ERS? …. If EVs are the future let it be. But I will not spend funds on a fast EV is just not my cup of tea. Sorry I just don’t like electrics and their designs. Good for commercial use not for private. I like a GTi, an RS3 or a VRS. That’s of course my own opinion I’m not an influencer. Thanks.
You cant compare an R to an GTI, R is just made for straight lines and speed, gti is made for driving fun and going in corners at high speed, with 4motion in the R you can’t have fun, and the steering feel in gtis are always better than R
Hi Mark. So Volkswagen are stifling with €20 billion profit. Poor souls. The cost of new cars has gone up and up over the last years and yet the interior quality has gone down coupled with the SCREEN. Certainly in this one it does seem plonked in. And I am positive that this reduced the cost of manufacture so makes you wonder why they are so much more expensive. Could it be because of the fines they will be forced to pay for not selling their quota of electric cars and normal users have to pay it……?
VW need to make €20 profit to cover debts and acquisitions such as Rivian. Volkswagen's total debt as of June 2024 is €194.42 billion, which is the sum of all current and non-current debts. Volkswagen's total long term debt has ranged from €166.36 billion in September 2022 to €208.14 billion in June 2024.
Just a car for Wealthy GTi diehards and unlikely to attract new buyers - dated thirsty drivetrains and dull looks. VW really need to come up with something fresh in styling and tech for the mk9 if there is to be one.

Software has nothing to do with electrification a little overplayed to blame everything on electric vehicles
So you think VW have not damaged their ID rep with software? Ok.
@@NobbyOnCars I've a ID Buzz I don't see what the issue is, are the ice vehicles using diff software
Nobby Nobbs?

The vw gti is 1 million in south Africa😭
Nice car too expensive!!
Thanks.
Keep your Grand Theft Item vw
very cheap get me two...
Don’t sit on it ffs😮
Don’t buy electric!
I can’t believe they’re at 8.5 when I gave up at on the Golf at Mk4.
Should've waited for the V !
🙏🏻🙏🏻
No one wants electric shite !
38k $$$ waste of usd dollar
Why would anyone buy a GTI when you could have a Golf R for a fee sheckles more? I drive a 7.5 Golf R and wouldn't trade it in for an 8.5 GTI
You cant compare an R to an GTI, R is just made for straight lines and speed, gti is made for driving fun and going in corners at high speed, with 4motion in the R you can’t have fun, and the steering feel in gtis are always better than R
I really hope VW goes completely bankrupt, with their stupid prices. VW, just close your factories please....
@@billx4266 that’s a pretty pathetic thing to say considering they employee thousands and thousands of normal people who just want to do their job
We'll never truly know I guess. The materials in the MKV GTI were not as good as the MKIV either so I guess it's not a new thing.
How much is a gti now ? 200k
Electric won't last petrol.will.run for another many years
It's all Biden doin here he made this happen
