Have my 128ti 3 years now, hands down the best car I've owned, long term keeper. Chopping in our Karoq for a 330e Touring in the next 6 months, got the BMW bug 😁
Nope definitely not from my point of view anyway, and Irish roads aren't the best! Depends what you're coming from obviously but I find it just firm enough to feel sporty without being harsh.
@@iam_anderdingus Have to say the same, have the 128ti, suspension is exceptional for a performance car as it handles our terrible roads in the UK very well. YEs it is a bit firm but no way is it uncomfertable. Surprised the M135 has 400 nm, same as the 128ti...
Saw one at my local dealer, tell me it doesn't look like a new Focus 🤔 Had the 2022 model for 18 months, nice thing even if the noise was fake. Sporty and safe 300hp with xdrive made for ultimate grip in all conditions like all the other 300hp four wheel drive cars, generic cars
Really sound review Nobby, thank you. I do like your "say it how it is" observations, and as someone in my 50's, who yearned after XR2's and XR3's when I was in my teens, I'm absolutely delighted with my '23 128ti.. I thought your comparisons between the 128ti the new 135 was interesting. Although in Britain, with our decaying roads and often poor weather along with it, in retrospect that extra grip on offer from the 135 is probably worth it, but unlike my 128ti, that takes you well into the plus £40k tax band in England. Seems no mention of a new 128ti though which seems odd. Unlike they'll release that later? Oh, and although the interior looks cleaner, its lack of iDrive is a real deal-breaker for me. Looks like I'll be keeping my 128ti for a very long time.
I had one of these as my courtesy car while my Motech edition M140i was being serviced a couple of months ago. Didn't like it at all, to me it felt really numb and not all that exciting an engine. I am spoilt though, a B58 six pot and RWD on a sorted suspension setup (by Motech) is always going to win out over what is a Mini JCW Works engine. I really disliked all the nannying aids too, lane assist, speed limit warnings etc, I know you can switch them off but you have to do so *every time* you start it, honestly sod that. My verdict, if you aren't tied in to a lease to get in one, try a sorted M140i before you pick up one of these, so much more of a driver's car.
@@jasontaylor5580 Yeah very likely then. I imagine that everything I thought then I would think about the new one though, plus the design has slipped further (in my eyes) with the headlights no longer being level with the grille etc

@@jonathanlfccortis5006 I have no doubt that's the case. My point is simply that the new models are not as good as the older ones. Swapping out RWD and the six-pot B58 for a numb X-drive system and the engine from a mini doesn't make for an improved enthusiast car.
@@Snowy-666 ….I think BMW have succeeded in their thinking to a certain extent though as there is definitely more interior & boot space in the F40 & F70. Nice to see a new Mini Cooper based M135. Older rear drive 1 series were really nice to drive but not nice to be in as a passenger and for some small cargo. Both this and Merc A45 are threats to VW Golf R.
Is the build quality better than a Mini? How about the VW or the Mercedes? Minis start falling apart from day one. Mighty big shoes to fill if you're going to beat VW or Mercedes.

Love all the misinformed comments on power only 300ish BHP Golf is more etc: I had one of these after my M140i and before my G87 M2 and trust me this is a nippy little car and more than quick enough to get you in to trouble either with the law or A&E these will keep with an M4 off the line in the wet and they are a great all round car, correct with your comment that people need to grow up and appreciate these hot hatches and enjoy them before we all get tracked for speed its coming trust me
Don’t like the front end. Lights look rather ugly like the pre facelift F20. Not that keen on the rear lights either with that unnecessary notch on the lower edge…previous car looks better. I’m still very happy with my F20 135i with the epic straight 6.
Exactly way to expensive to be called a hot hatch. These 2.0+turbod cars muscled into the arena with a cheap look at my power attention grab and instead have ruined the bracket for all time eg no more Fiesta ST (an actual Hot hatch)
Nice car!😍 ….& let’s be honest, despite all the daft “Fiesta & Kia” sideswipes…🙄🤣…..this new BMW 1 Series will be the best selling car in its class, just like its predecessors were!🤷🏻♂️👍
Just buy a nearly new 128ti if you can find one as it is 'affordable for the everyman' and same 400nm, around 25HP down on the 135...You are right that hot hatches used to be the affordable fast car for the common man....not anymore.
Mark...I think BMW are the dog's b's! However that grille and headlights... Nope! No thanks! Wrong! Give me the current model front. Nothing against the Focus or Fiesta. God knows we need them back! However BMW the redesign has spoiled the 1 Series. VW Golf R now looks better. Yes interior is better quality. But to see that ugly front daily...eh? No! Pity as this BMW is a hidden gem. Does the Ti still exist?
My God, that's one ugly car. The interior must have cost them peanuts to make, take out the plastic slab and there's just a steering wheel left. BMW turning out some low rent, ugly cars right now.
Just looks like a ford the last model was more like a Mercedes bmw 1 series no longer looks like a bmw oh ye and they are front wheel drive completely lost its bmw identity the best 1 series was by far the f20/f21
