This actually worked!! Out of the blue, my computer's touchpad and keyboard stopped working and I was freaking out! Thankfully, I had an external mouse and was able to do research and come across this video! Thank you so much for making this video and taking us through your process!

Thank you brother! Removing the battery worked on my acer laptop. Even setting the bios did not help! I updated keyboard and touchpad drivers, no luck. Restored windows 11 and restored it back to Windows 10 even that didn't work. But now both keyboard and touchpad working! Thank you!
Man, I've tried drivers, safe mode, uninstalling things here and there, settings, bios update, cmos reset, cleaning the whole keyboard and after removing the battery then plug it back after a few minutes made everything work, thank you so much sorin. ❤

I fixed it using the F2 and removing the battery. It's working now like magic. Have tried other solutions on the net but none worked like your. Have my keyboard back after three weeks. I got a problem like this after the last windows update, 1909 i think, the touchpad driver wasnt working properly anymore, i fixed that with the system restore thing :D

Thanks a lot my friend. It works. Actually I removed the battery and used for many weeks by directly plugging the supply without battery. And suddenly my keyboard didn't work. When I saw this video and boot my system with my battery, the keyboard start working. Eventhough the fix is very simple, your knowledge for the fix is great.

Testing with LinuxLive flash drive is always a great help.
and this fault is usually because of windows not syncing USB port working frequency. You can reproduce this problem by just connecting and disconnecting a USB device too many times.
Think that was my problem, literally spilt milk, must have not synched till it refused, then the new keyboard I installed wouldn't work, but usb one would and new keyboard appeared to power up till windows got going. Did the driver and settings fixes but removing the battery and power did it. Cheers!!

I have not been able to use my Toshiba Satellite keyboard or touchpad for a couple of years, just got by with external ones - tried lots of recommended "fixes" but not until I found your video did anything help! I found I had to unplug from AC power, remove battery for a minute or so, put back in and only then could I get into BIOS and restore default settings. Now everything works!
This worked, craziest thing I have ever seen working on PC's but I took out the battery and put it back in and now keyboard and touchpad works now, I would have never believed this would work. I would love to know why the battery kept the keyboard from working.
Bios corruption. Disconnecting the battery actually reset the board (the EC chip which is always under the power)

I was having same problem on HP Envy pavilion and I can't fix it even after losing out the back case to check if CMOS battery is attached to the board but none could be found.. This video has taught me how to work on it and hope it works tomorrow when I get to the shop.. Thanks Sorrin for the video

I have this problem right now and the only way I can use my laptop is with external keyboard and mouse. I was watching thinking he's gonna connect that wireless mouse! 😆I have been trying everything to restore the function of my laptops original settings. I downloaded some drawing tablet drivers and that's when it shit its self.😭Going to yank this battery and see what happens. 🤞

Neither touchpad nor keyboard work on my brother's old Gateway netbook since I put Linux on it. Came with Windows 7 Starter, and it was really slow. I've done everything you've mentioned here except for pulling the CMOS battery. I'll try that tomorrow. USB keyboard and mouse work.

It is caused by the bad battery, good battery fixes it right away. If you change back the bad battery, the failure happens away. Still, I could fix it with MS Flight simulator demo, and another fix is to enter the bios, and try the keys. Online services still cause the problem if the battery works, but not balanced. To balance the cells, you have to switch to Balanced power plan, and use an external keyboard to write some lines. It takes a lot of charges, to fully balance and remove the X, needs 50 charges.
You can try on screen keyboard,then you can do turn off and up,the mouse external for reparation test.

The amount of drivers and settings and messing around I've done.
When windows login screen came on it moved and worked, then when on dekstop on I realised i had to enable touchpad on (fn f5) again because of all the messing round previously haha. But it was there. Working. Brilliant thank you!

Have you ever heard of “gateway fast lane?”.
When I’m in Start Menu windows 8.1 I clicked on Desktop and the bottom taskbar shows a blue box with lines running through like a scribble pad with a round icon inside. It’s called ‘Gateway Fast-Lane’. It lets me know if my Wi-Fi, Airplane Mode, Caps Lock, Scroll Lock and best of all Touchpad Lock is on or off. Mine was on. I unlocked it and my touch pad works now.
It also shows Touchpad Lock (F6/Fn + F6) if that means anything to you. I just reset my gateway laptop.
I don’t know how long my mouse pad hadn’t worked but I’m giving it to my nephew.
I also know your not using a Gateway but for anyone who does this blue icon box with scribble lines was on windows 7 and with 8.1 I had to click on desktop.

Thanks..I tried this method..and other steps shown on other similar videos...nothing worked...So its either a hardware problem of like your last advice..the CPU..or BIOS battery...so I have to find a way to open up the laptop to try that...

Hello it really helped and i didnt know how to get my battery out so i just kept the laptop running for 30 min (i did that by pluging in a mouse) and restarted it and it worked

I spilled some tea on my Dell a few years ago.. quickly ran to dry it and do best to minimise damage... Ever since then the Touch pad doesn't work.. I am under the impression I need a new touch pad circuit from another Dell...

Oh thanks, I had to restart property, I had to hold the start button for 5 seconds. Before I was doing it for 1 second and what I thought was a shut down was actually a sleep mode.

Did you try ctrl +alt +esc? That would bring up task manager.
