- Weather plays a huge role in coyote trapping. The weather we had in Kansas started as good as it gets. It was dry, easy to set traps, and plenty of sign to be found. That all changed on day three when the winter weather arrived. A combination of snow, sleet, and rain formed a solid crust over the traps that prevented them from firing on a coyote. To get our traps back in action we had to go back through the line and make them look as natural as possible after chipping the layer of ice out.
We introduced the new Duke 650's last winter. Now that we've ran them a bit this season, there are a few modifications we're making to them. It doesn't take much to turn this great trap into an incredible one.

So wish we could run those 650’s in Ohio. Might be the perfect coyote trap
You can run 650s in Ohio but I wouldn’t. I did and didn’t not like them much as the pan tension was a nightmare. I moved to jake traps and I’ll never look back.
Rule in Ohio is get the inside and outside laminated and have 3 swivels and you are good, should you decide to go that way.
@@jasonclemons3559 I was refering to duke 650’s, not MB 650s. Not sure you could inside laminate their cast jaw to make it smaller

Very good video of the 650. Ordering some now. I have a question, having been out of the game for a while. What lures do you all use? I had so much trouble with skunks when I used bait that the last season I trapped I only used lures. But I haven't trapped in quite a while. What seems to be working for you with coyotes?
