Bradley! Love the Toscanos now and again. I had the pleasure of sharing a few with Matches860 a few times. Why does it look like the rock to my left of you is a bear about to growl at you? Lol. Cheers!
I recently got my PhD in classics and had the opportunity to visit the archaeological site of Troy with a class. I highly recommend seeing the Troad--Istanbul was beautiful as well. Turkey happens to also be an interesting place for the pipe hobby, and though I wasn't into it yet at the time, I remember seeing lots of meerschaums in the bazaars. I'll have to go back one day to pick up some pipes and rugs.
Dear Bradley, As an archaeologist, I'm happy to hear you like ancient (pre)history. Here's a tip for a great podcast: ’Tides of History’, which is as educational as it is entertaining. Hopefully, you enjoy it as much as I do. I'm curious what you might think of it. Best wishes from Holland.
Love toscano originales, i smoke them on the golf course because bringing the pipe out is a pain in the neck… also i recently went down the Bronze Age collapse rabbit hole as well, very interesting stuff.
Fun Fact: Mr. Eastwood _HATED_ cigars and smoking in general. That ubiquitous sneer that became common place for Clint was a result of the cheroots he was asked to smoke. This only helped to* propel his persona even further. Especially when filming Westerns. This is why we have the grimace known as the *"Eastwood wince".* Stay classy my friends. *EDITED for grammar.
My Italian uncle used to smoke Toscani cigats, and when it got down close to the end, he would tear it apart and put it in his pipe and smoke it. A rather Italian activity it would appear.
Those are really really good, i tend to go for the Antico (hope i did not butcher the name) which is way stronger and not to be had on an empty stomach.
I used to love the Total War series of games. Need to get back into them. Might want to check out Crusader Kings II, was pretty good but I had a tough go of it.
I also felt the same as that last comment, have you had any interactions where photography subjects got angry? I live in a big city and would have a hard time doing this. I enjoy your work though and it reminds me of my time in Washington.
"Fall of Civilizations" *great podcast series. V. academic and lengthy, not for the lightweights. Also Graham Handcock's NETFLIX series Ancient Apocalypse has a couple of episodes set in the Med and also a couple in N America.
I also have read that Clint Eastwood smoked Marsh Wheeling Virginians, as I did decades ago. Fantastic, cheap smoke! Don't care for Dark Fired Kentucky in a pipe blend, but in an American cigar it's very tasty, so much better, IMO, than the likes of Dutch Masters, King Edward, etc. Good show today.
I used to watch the working stuff pretty faithfully, but I haven't been seeing any of your uploads in my inbox. I was worried that you had went dark when I came to check. I have a few weeks to catch up on.
I love history and a significant portion of my reading is either historical non-fiction or fiction. I do go back and forth between ancient/medieval history and more modern periods, though. Modern subjects (e.g. WWI/WWII) are great because obviously we know so much more about them. We have no shortage of first-hand accounts and even video in some cases. That can be nice when you really want to dive in and learn all you can about a subject. However, I also love ancient history because there is so much we don't know that there is almost a fantastical/mythical element to it all. Even "history" can almost be like reading a fictional account, especially since so much of the ancient world was tied up with what we now consider myth. I did enjoy Eric Cline's 1177 BC: The Year Civilization Collapsed about the bronze age collapse.
I'm a big history guy! My undergraduate was in Biblical Studies and Archaeology, which included studying the Ancient Near East from the Bronze Age up until the Persian period and the Greco-Roman period of the early of the Eastern Mediterranean. I'm currently doing a masters (will be done with it in the fall!) where I interact regularly with ANE (more so Iron Age) and Greco-Roman history.
@@TommyHail There is a lot of newish research pertaining the ANE context of the Old Testament, as am sure you know. Reading the ancient texts has had a massive impact on how I understand it, and it seems like only now it is becoming more mainstream. I hope more churches start to understand, these studies can end a lot of problems with interpretation and also create some different problems all together.
I think so too. There has been a lot of speculation, but the stubs he has in the movies don't look like Toscanos, too thin. Eastwood himself said something about "virginias", but he didn't go into much detail.
sorry, if you are out in public, you are open game! that must have been a under 40 year old person. sad they think they own themself when they are out and about. Crazy world we live in.

Cant unsee this now 😂
Haha! It does look like that!
Hell yeah! Lets get you a part of #TeamToscano 🤝🏻
Those cheroots are surprisingly good for cheap machine rolled cigars in my opinion.

That's so cool that you got to visit the actual site!

I looked it up! Thank you!
Toscanos are awesome. I truly discovered them in Italy - while discovering ancient history! I need to get some!
I'm really enjoying them!
Ahh yes! You got the ancient history bug too. The mystery of human history is captivating to say the least.

I read that as well!

Waste not, want not!
My great uncle smoked DeNobile cigars that looked like dried twigs. Then he quit smoking them for health reasons & chewed on them all day.
Loved those empire building games :) - haven't played them in maybe a decade or more.
Those are really really good, i tend to go for the Antico (hope i did not butcher the name) which is way stronger and not to be had on an empty stomach.
Medieval 2 total war is probably my favorite game I've played. Countless hours.
I used to love the Total War series of games. Need to get back into them. Might want to check out Crusader Kings II, was pretty good but I had a tough go of it.
The only cigars I smoke are Toscano Extra Veccio and those of Antiquo
Assassin's Creed Odyssey is a great game to play through ancient Greece.
Excellent. You look great my friend. I will definitely try the Eastwood Sticks!
Thanks! Good to hear from you!
It's a bit later mate but if you want a real treat: Robin Lane Fox 'Alexander the Great'

I've had two so far and really enjoyed them!

Thanks for letting me know!
Have you uploaded any shots from Working to your Instagram? I was thinking the shot of the huge finished driveway would be cool.
Not a bad idea!

And it's fun to see how the mythical version of events compares to the archeological record!
Clint said in an interview that he hated the cigars he smoked in Leones movies.
I saw that!
@@stuffandthingsyoutube wierd thou, he really nailed the look with the cigarr/cigarill in the corner of the mouth.
Funny, one of my favourite politics youtubers (Sargon of Akkad) loves Total War Pharaoh. Never played it myself, but looks neat.

Very cool! Such a fascinating subject of study.
The Ancient Near East is critical to Biblical studies. Did you get a different perspective on Genesis after studying the ANE?
@@gustingdis It's given me a whole new perspective on the Hebrew Bible as a whole! The same goes for Greco-Roman background with the NT.

I trust you've seen the documentary The Sea Peoples and The Late Bronze Age Collapse? If not, check it out!

It's here on UA-cam.
Toscano is not Clints sticks its Marsh Wheeling Virginian

I think Clint smoked Parodies on stage.
Could you please say where you got that hat?
I think from Amazon. It's the Tilley T5MO
@@stuffandthingsyoutube thank you.

Fun fact...butt rock isn't just something you're forced to sit on during these Sunday smokes...it's also a really bad genre of music 😅
Haha! Indeed. That's what we called hair metal when I was in high school.
The cigars that Clint Eastwood used were called Virginia's that he cut into thirds to have a more stubby cigar.
