    Just this morning I thought to myself - "Simplify your Dock, bozo!" (I'm not very complimentary to myself😀 ) And then I saw this - thanks a ton as ever Gary.

    0:50 omg this tip is worth gold - I could have sworn I had already tried to put a folder on the righthand side and tried it again and sure enough , this is where it sticks! super useful if you have an Applications *sub-folder* in the Dock so your list isn't as cluttered.

    This is an excellent idea. I just set up a folder with aliases to my most frequently used files and can now access them from the dock rather than drilling down to the proper Finder folder. Good time saver. Thanks for the tip.

    Such a good idea. Just created such a file and it works, even pulling files up from my Parallels Windows 11 location. Saves soo much time!!

    Thx for this. I spent some time cleaning up my dock and it really helped my desktop. I made customized icons for the folders (divided by company) so I could see them quickly. Much better workspace!

    I've been using this tip of your for awhile, but adding the alias fror frequently used files that may not always show in the Recents list of an app is GREAT!

    Thanks for helping us to keep learning. I’ve had almost every Mac type since the Lisa (yeah, Newton, ugh. But DuoDock way ahead of its time.) But in recent years I’m on mostly office PC laptops so I forget a lot. Wife’s home iMac finally burned itself up, so got new 15” MacBook. Love it, but a lot to re-learn. Thanks Gary.

    This is excellent information! I had a continual problem of Finder losing shortcuts to my NAS and other network resources. Someone suggested, perhaps it was you in a previous video, to create alias's for all network resources. Even if the shortcut in Finder goes away, the alias is ALWAYS there and can always pull up the network resource. I then took all of my shortcut alias's and placed them in a Favorite folder on the Dock. The result is that with one click from the DOCK I have dependable shortcuts that take me to all of my favorite network resources! Thank you for everything you do to make things easier for us.

    Thanks Gary! I’m watching your channel starting last month and learning so much from your tips! I was wandering at this point what’s the best way to reach common/most used files on daily basis: those folders on the dock or tag folders? And using alias what happens when changing the name on the original file or change its directory?
    Greetings from Italy

      Different people like different things. I have a Finder window always open with 3 tabs open to the 3 folders I use every day. And one very important files added to the right side of the Dock. Others just use the Recents view in the Finder. Some add several files to the Dock. See ua-cam.com/video/awbM3edlcxA/v-deo.html for other ideas.

    I wish we could do this across the whole dock.
    Was there a time when dock folders defaulted to this type of function - I seem to remember seeing something like it in the years before I got a Mac.

    This is a good hack tip. Thanks! Hard to believe there isn't a utility which allows the dock to be configured with several different themes that would correspond with Focus. Seems logical yet Apple may be waiting to see how an opportunistic dev can create something viable.

    I placed files I use daily onto that dock area. For example, I have a spreadsheet for my banking activities. I have a folder called Taxes 2023 that holds my tax data sheets for my tax activities. So, files and folders can be placed on the divider line's dock area to the right. I have another folder called Databases that lists the most commonly used databases.

    Hello! Is there any way (whether by command line) so that when Stage Manager is active, it still minimize apps for the dock?
    I like Stage Manager very much, but in my view it is much more sense to continue minimizing apps for the dock than simply throwing it to Stage Manager.

    • @macmost

    Hello Gary, This is not pertinent to today's video but may be a suggestion for another one. I am running Ventura on a desktop iMac. In my house, there are many Bluetooth devices. How can I stop the desktop from trying to connect these devices? Is there a permanent way to forget these devices? It's been a while since you have done a video about Bluetooth. Thanks.

    • @csmith3564
      @csmith3564 Рік тому

      This may not be the permanent solution you need, but try this:
      Open Bluetooth Settings. Note that for each device there is the Circled i. Click this.
      You have options Forget This Device… and Connect or Disconnect (depending on current state).

    • @Smartiebob317
      @Smartiebob317 Рік тому

      Thank you for the info. I did that, and it works for the moment. But the next time I turn on my iMac, it tries to find or connect to them again. I am looking for a way to have it forget those devices permanently. Thanks for the suggestion.@@csmith3564

    Question!!! I've been trying to find a way to do this - create category of Apps ie. (ie. Grapics Folder with Photoshop + Graphics Converter inside) and be able to drag and drop a file from the desktop or finder and navigate to the dock (graphics folder) and drop that file ONTO the app I want to launch it in? So far, I have not found a single program that allows me to add drag/drop functionality of files from desktop, UNLESS its on the main dock. This is so frustrating and trying to find a workaround to so I can few apps on the main dock, and more folders with categories ie. Audio, Graphics, etc with drag/drop file functionality. The DRAG n DROP of files onto the apps in the folders is the main thing I'm struggling with. Can someone help or suggest a work around? or suggest a third party app that does this? I've tried a whole heap of "dock" third party apps and NONE allow for drag and drop of files from the desktop, and launch the program I drag it ontop of in my list. Ie. .mp3 file and drag to audio folder and choose which program to drag it on top of to open. ie. Amadus, or Logic Pro (in my audio folder on dock).. I appreciate any help with this. Cheers!

      Trust me, the more you learn from MacMost, the more you will love the Macbook. I will admit when I first purchased it, I thought it was a huge mistake compared to Windows. But like most things in life, once you learn all of its wonderful advantages by watching these videos, and start using it every day, you soon become bonded for life.
