You can also get the EX in the "designers edition". This will basically be most of the features from the top of the range GT-Line but will come with the 2.0 N/A engine and the IVT (Intelligent Variable Transmission). This is Kia's CVT and it was actually made IN HOUSE! Very impressive! Pricing for the EV is still not out but considering Kia still has the full $7500 tax credit and are able to discount their cars, I can see the EV still being one of the better buys (IF) you can support the EV lifestyle. 201 horsepower, 295 torque, and an official range of 243 miles. I'm currently in my dealership right now getting a red Kia soul Gt line. Test drove it and Absolutely love this car and affordable for everything you get. Car is loaded and reasonably affordable.

I still don’t like the split DRL/low headlights...I prefer the two together sitting up high traditionally - I like the aggressive look overall though!

Dude! I really like this new Soul it's jazzy AF! The speaker lights has me sold and I like the overall design and look! I can't believe I'm gonna say this but I would actually take this (GT line) over the Lexus UX. These are so cool looking! Plus the options and attention to detail at this price point is a bargain!

The switchblade key is also on the "S" line model. The arm padding isn't leather nor is the shifter boot. In regards to the backup camera being grainy...i just bought a S line yesterday. Had the same grainy camera issue. Apparently there was still plastic on the camera lens. Peeled it off and no more grains! ;)

I'm seriously considering trading in my 2017 Toyota Corolla for this Kia Soul.
My ideal Soul would be the 1.4 Kappa turbo engine from the Elantra Eco with a 6 speed manual. Will never happen, but I think that would be the ideal combination for driveability and fuel economy. Realizing that I'm one of the few remaining manual transmission fans, they should, at the very least, just drop the Elantra Eco's engine and trans into a Soul for a Soul Eco.
I'd have set up a different trim structure than Kia. LX, Soul Eco, X Line, and GT. Soul Electric as a separate entity. My LX and X Line would have the current engine and trans combos as outlined by Kia. Eco as I mentioned above. I'd have the GT with a manual, like the Elantra GT Sport, and the DCT.
It is a total shame you can't get the GT with a 6 speed stick. That would be killer. It makes no sense that you can get an Elantra Sport and GT Sport equipped with the turbo / manual combo but not the Soul.
My last grumble is that the X Line really should have had some kind of AWD setup. I think a lot of people were hoping for this. They probably didn't want to cannibalize Hyundai Kona sales, though. Fair enough, but if the goal is to differentiate from the Kona, then again, wider availability of the manual trans should occur in the Soul, as well as the 1.4 Kappa engine option, something the Kona does not feature.
Anyway, all my nitpicks aside, I think the new Soul looks REALLY good. They aced the redesign as far as aesthetics. I'll strongly consider a base LX with the manual to replace my xB.
Love the thin headlights. I've long thought that with advancing technology, headlights should be getting smaller, not bigger, over time. By 2019 we should be able to have tiny lights that are highly effective. A lot of the lack of progress on this front probably revolves around antiquated US lighting regulations rather than automakers.

Very impressive overall! The only thing about the interior that looks very cheap is the screen between the tach and spedo...plus all the black plastic surrounding that screen.
What do you want there to be...metal? That'll add extra weight.

Love this review. The CVT X-Line sounds like a really nice commuter car. It may not have all of the amenities, but a 7 inch touch screen is "good enough." It's smoother and the power appears to be sufficient for city traffic. Great job covering both vehicles!

How is the S model and the GT line 2.0 the same price when you get so much more on the GT model?
There is 2 GT-LINE trim level turbo,and a non turbo.
The non turbo GT-line is the same price as the S.
But the GT-LINE turbo is more expensive than the S.
I wish you would have commented on the difference between the GT line and the GT line turbo
John Bach not big deal the gt line is 2 l engine and gt line turbo is 1.6 l turbo 201 hp.
Nice review except you failed to mention the 2 liter non turbo Gt line. I wish that I could have gotten all the features offered in the turbo. 147 hp is totally adequate. 201 is too much, maybe better in more mountainous terrain.
The heating and cooling vents are under the front seats.
Just left Kia Smithtown. You sold me on the Kia Soul X. Which my partner purchased. Aha 😤 I realize the X Kia Soul he purchase did not come with a sunroof. Do they?
Hi Forrest, I saw there is also an EX line, will that have everything the GT has except the motor? I would like the GT but wonder if it is possible to put the X-Line wheels on the GT for a smoother ride?? Thanks for the review.
@@forrestsautoreviewsofficial, oh ok, when I got my soul, the Plus+ model had 16" wheels which were quieter than the thinner 18" wheels on the Exclaim! model. Probably I will look for the designer Ex line and see if they can still add any other options that may be missing (this will be a daily driver).
2020 Kia Soul Spec sheet has 16 inch wheels listed for the base models LX and S lines. I still think these tires will give you a quieter drive, I wonder if the dealership would swap those out or would this affect the speedometer and the odometer?@@forrestsautoreviewsofficial What are your thoughts Forrest?
Manual option is a pleasant surprise. I almost don't believe it .

The Toyota has a "first gear" then the CVT. I think that is the same thing the Soul has.??
No it is a programmed in to feel like gears are shifting. A "dual gear and CVT trans" are not made. Its all in the programming, KIA CVTs are pretty good vs others, not so klunky.
The GT line with turbo is a bit overpriced in my opinion. Great car but $27k? There's a big price discrepancy from the EX to the GT line. I belive the EX is $23k then the next trim is the GT which is $27k. I think $25k for the GT would've been the sweet spot.
The EX is the way to go.
Push button start should be standard in 2020.
Not everyone needs (Or wants) push button start , especially if you look at the the rates of stolen vehicles , it's taken a major leap in recent years and mainly because of that particular reason. Smart key and push button start aren't always the best decisions.

Yeah, I hate the double beep from my car when I start it in the morning and go back into my house. Its so dam annoying. I have push button start with auto/start-stop technology.
