personally, i'd call 6.3 pretty zippy for a subcompact. but the weekend category is about high performance, and there is an objective scale that doug uses to judge cars... acceleration in a car like this is just not going to look good when it's compared to sports cars, even if it is fun for the average person to drive.
I just bought a 2018 Kia Soul for my elderly mother today. She likes the ease of getting in and out and also the higher than sedan seat height. The headroom makes the car feels spacious. The trunk is shallow but tall, makes it easy for her to load and unload grocery.

Damnnn, Dougie boy is #29 on trending. Get that sweet sweet Ad Money Doug, you deserve it! Edit: I bet Doug is the only car guy on youtube that thinks this car doesn't have enough quirks and that's why we love him.
I have a 2014 Soul+ which now has over 70,000 miles on it. All I have replaced is one set of tires and a battery. I live in AZ and we are subject to up to 120 degrees in July and August. and i have had no cooling problems. It has had three cross country trips (AZ to New Jersey about 7000 miles each) It is a great long distance car.. I am sold on KIA.
Isn't it funny? The 2010 Saab 9-5 had the light bar and the floating roof design. I'm still disappointed that the car never could reach its full potential. It still looks modern.
size class is actually not a subjective thing. it's objective, and depends on the interior volume of the car. just because it looks big, or is very efficient at giving you usable space, doesn't mean it has the cubic feet required to be classified as mid-size or large car.
This is why Toyota had their Scion division. They could do weird stuff, then everyone would get the stuff, and they could do new weird stuff while regular Toyotas adopted the newly normal features.
I have a 2014 Soul + model and it has been a great car. In a few years I'm definatley going to buy a new GT turbo model. I never liked Kia in general until I bought my Soul but I will buy another one for sure.
Me before the video: "Yeah that seems like a practical car" Doug: "You can even check the doppler radars on the infotainment system" Me now: **OKAY I NEED THAT NOW**
Im disappointed with this review because doug only said the word “funky” 1,457 times. This car is worthy of AT LEAST 1,866 “funkies”. And don’t even get me started on the “quirkies”
Doug I purchased a Kia Soul 2016 I love it so much that I went back and bought a 2019. My 2016 Kia Soul right now has over 120,000 miles and running strong, we are a Kia family. We all drive Kia. and something that tall and big
Its not for a subcompact. Its over all.
personally, i'd call 6.3 pretty zippy for a subcompact. but the weekend category is about high performance, and there is an objective scale that doug uses to judge cars...
acceleration in a car like this is just not going to look good when it's compared to sports cars, even if it is fun for the average person to drive.
Most of the cars he tests accelerate between 2.5 and 3.5 sec 0-60 so 6.3 sec is "slow" lol
Not sure where he got 6.3 seconds from, We have the same engine in the UK and 0-60 takes around 7 seconds.
I just bought a 2018 Kia Soul for my elderly mother today. She likes the ease of getting in and out and also the higher than sedan seat height. The headroom makes the car feels spacious. The trunk is shallow but tall, makes it easy for her to load and unload grocery.
As a German I can‘t believe this is a compact car for you O.o
Emin Böcker its almost higher than him :o
@@user-mp7ce8yv2xYeah its looks live van:)
Yeah it looks way to big to be compact. Compact is like Citroen C1 or something or VW Up!
americans drive 6 meters trucks and call it daili cars🤦🏻♂️
It's compact because of the wheelbase, which is 5" shorter than a Mazda 3 or a Civic
Does the grill not remind you of Lamborghini interior themes? Same "Y" and hexagonal theme no?
Tasteful Transportation the whole front looks like the urus
Looks like a poor mans wanna be Range Rover with some touch of Lamborghini but with cheap quality
It’s ugly as fuck
Kia and hyundai are notorious for copying other companies designs. How they haven't been sued by every other car company is still a mystery to me
I have always felt Kia has looked at other cars for inspiration, like the car that looks like a civic.

I have this car-and its manual transmission. Smooth shifting, drives great. Mileage was not as good as the 2015 I had, but this one has a larger engine. Sill great-I average 38 mpg around town. I topped out a 48 mpg on the 2015 model. 1.6L engine, this new one has a 2.0

Doug the type of guy who reads the vehicle's entire owner's manual in the salesman's office before he buys it.
Small? It's enormous. It's almost taller than you.
Xerdoz this is a small car in comparison to others that he has reviewed though
size class is actually not a subjective thing. it's objective, and depends on the interior volume of the car. just because it looks big, or is very efficient at giving you usable space, doesn't mean it has the cubic feet required to be classified as mid-size or large car.
But hes 6'6 though...
Doug was hunching down A LOT when he stands next to it. It's nowhere near as tall as him
@@MossA-ox7ys He's between 6'3" and 6'5" depending on altitude and humidity.

Soul is sold in Russia massively. That's why seat heating buttons are so big.
Pavel Mikhalkov I’ve never seen ‘massively’ used to describe a large quantity of items sold
So, Russians have big fat fingers then?

They increased the ground clearance from 5.9 to 6.7in. So now it has more ground clearance than the Mazda 3.

Doug I purchased a Kia Soul 2016 I love it so much that I went back and bought a 2019. My 2016 Kia Soul right now has over 120,000 miles and running strong, we are a Kia family. We all drive Kia. We are also the proud owners of a Sportage, Sedona and Forte. And what you said about the warranty no other car manufacturers have the warranty that Kia has of 10 years, 100,000 miles.
That’s great to know thanks!!!
Are they known to honor it at least?
this is my wife. she is on her third Soul and she loves them. Honestly I i kinda like the car too.
Is it just me or does the front of the Kia Soul look like a Range Rover Velar? 🤔
Reminds me if a Camaro became an suv
Or u mean Ford explorer???? Ford really influence a lot of major brands across the board. Range Rover was owned by Ford.

The front lighting is fantastic. I’m never going to buy one of these, but the world is better because of that front fascia.
Doug - if it doesn't light up, it's not a light bar. Just like a counter isn't a stove top... because it doesn't stove
Dude this car does not look small
the classifications are based on cubic feet of interior space. it's objectively small, even if it doesn't look it.
Doug literally has to get on one knee to show the rear of the car
@skyline if that's the case make a brand new model for that.
@@andy4an Shut up going on about cubic feet of interior space.
