      Gilbert Galvan take a really good look at how the Kia is made. I’m realizing that it’s on the CHEAP side. Tinny sound when closing the doors. Things showing that should not be showing because they cut cost on production

      Gilbert Galvan I get ya. Same here. I’ve had it for 3 months. I see things I didn’t see on a test drive. While you are looking at that Kia open the driver side door. Bend down and look past the pedals.....look back. Tell me what you see which I GUARANTEE you won’t see in your Toyota. What you see you will find in other places on this car. Cheaply made. I kid you not. Saw what I saw behind the pedals-stood up like this😳😲😳. The reason I even looked down there and back that far was because there was a piece of tape (electrical?) hanging from some area under the steering wheel. Looked down to see where that was at and then 😳😳😲😳

    The Kia Soul is really the best bang for the buck car on the market. You should have also mentioned that Kia's (like the Soul) come with a 10 year/100,000 mile power train warranty. The car has all the standard air bags (driver/passenger) but it also has full side curtain airbags too. So lots of safety features and backed by a huge warranty (best in the business). Their infotainment system is among the best in the car industry too. Very easy to use and it's quite responsive. It's an extremely practical car. That's why people buy them. You can fit a ton of stuff in the back. Quickly lower the back seats to fit even more stuff in it. Like you said in the video, there is tons of glass to see everything around you while driving. I've driven in a lot of sedans and modern sedan stylings feel unsafe to drive. You look in your rear view mirror and the rear window is small (they have an elevated rear look to them). The rear pillars add another blind spot to the vehicle and makes you feel apprehensive about changing lanes. The Kia Soul has none of those issues. Plus it looks unique. You won't have trouble spotting it in a parking lot. It's a fresh breath of air. All the Toyota, Honda, etc cars look the same. I actually had one of those sedans a few years ago and had people mistaking my car for theirs. But it was a completely different model than what they had! I will admit I almost walked up to another person's vehicle and tried opening the door because I thought it was my car (not paying attention enough).
    The only thing that looks like a Kia Soul on the road is the 2019 Range Rover Sport (google it, it looks quite similar). It also costs about $70,000! The Kia Soul has a cult following for a reason. It really is an awesome vehicle. The Gen 2 version (fully loaded with panaromic sun roof, heated and cooled leather seats) is just an awesome vehicle. It's like driving luxury for 1/3rd the cost. A bargain hunter's dream.

    I noticed something peculiar about the Soul fuel economy specifications on the Kia USA website. The EX model without the Designer package gets better fuel economy than any of the other models - 29/35/31 rather than 27/33/30 for the lower content S with the same IVT transmission. Why would that be the case? The EX has 17" alloys. The S has presumably lighter smaller 16" alloys. The EX has a bunch of "schtuff" that the S lacks - power drivers seat, fog lamps, load floor insert, rear seat folding armrest, etc., etc., which must along with the larger wheels add some weight, yet the EX with 17s gets the best fuel economy of the bunch despite being the second best equipped in the line-up. Add the optional Designer Package 18s to the EX and fuel economy drops to the same 27/33/30 as the S with IVT. Kind of puzzling how the EX with 17s would get better fuel economy, though maybe these 17s are super light, or maybe they are particularly aerodynamic as wheels go. Dunno.

    The soul is a CUV. It's a commuter car for small families not enthusiasts. The GT fills that void and is faster than the civic sport and is actually less money. The cars that compete with the soul are H-RV, EcoSport, CX-3 and the Hyundai version similar to the soul. The Elantra is a direct competitor to the civic. The Elantra sport is blows the civic sport out of the water and is 5 k cheaper

    First, it looks like a Soul and only a Soul, but nice attempt to bookend your review with "omg guys, they totally ripped off the styling of this other car most people don't know or care about". And comparing fuel economy and rear suspension design to a Civic, a car you mentioned a half dozen times is just silly. If the Soul was shaped like the Civic it would easily get 42 mpg. To add insult you largely glossed over what makes the Soul popular with buyers (practicality, ease of ingress/egress, good feature content for the money, and unique styling). I honestly don't see anyone seriously cross shopping this with the Civic, so why not mention the HR-V which actually competes with the Soul and adds relevance to the discussion? This review is not your best work. Better try next time.

    • @drivingsports
      @drivingsports  5 років тому +1

      Kia Soul owners I personally know bought them as commuter cars, and with the Civic being the "go to" commuter car for many enthusiasts, I see the comparison as appropriate and the price is also comparable in mid and upper trims.
      For the exact same price as the 2020 Kia Soul X-Line I tested, you can get a 2019 Honda Civic Sport 4-door Hatchback with 180hp (more), 40mpg (better), Honda Sensing (forward collision, which the X-Line doesn’t have) and rear independent suspension (Soul has torsion beam.) The Soul is smaller, I will give it that.
      As I lead the video with, I know that because of size and weird-factor, the Soul competes with other odd cars like the CH-R (anyone buying those?) and the Honda Fit/HRV is considered to be in that class as well. But once you move out of the bargain basement $17,000 models, and up to the $22,500 X-Line - especially if you’re buying it as a commuter car - why wouldn’t someone cross-shop the Soul with Civic? Even if they went ultimately with the Soul, because they liked the features/design/whatever, one should always ask "what else can I get for the same money that might be money better spent."

    • @jrwaters943
      @jrwaters943 5 років тому +2

      @@drivingsports The Soul has a loyal following and I know many people, myself included, who have owned more than one and the Civic was never cross-shopped.

    • @JDubbs07
      @JDubbs07 5 років тому +5

      I agree - I thought the constant comparisons to the Civic were pretty pointless considering the reasons you mentioned that makes the Soul such a popular choice. And he conveniently forgot that Kia makes the Forte, which matches up quite well to the Civic on all fronts. The Soul has never aspired to be like a Civic and never will. But it's a far better vehicle than the HR-V, its actual competitor

    The civic sport turbo is 1.5 180 and 30 k Canadian plus tax. This car doesn't compete against cars. This is a CUV. The GT Turbo is 29 k Canadian and is a way better buy.

    When you’re comparing a new Kia to any models that aren’t Kias or Hyundai’s, you really should mention differences in factory warranties. My understanding is that they come with 100K warranties which is nothing to sneeze at. And I’ve even seen dealerships doubling that here in Florida.

    • @drivingsports

      My point is that it would be good to mention it when you’re making comparisons. If you’re going to compare prices, value, etc., a warranty is worth mentioning.

    • @j.r.b.5464
      @j.r.b.5464 5 років тому

      If you buy the loaded GT Turbo with LED headlamps, you get the very top rating, "Good +". The lesser models with halogen projectors or standards get merely a "Good", which is still great for a subcompact, and the base model gets a bit below that as it lacks some of the passive safety features the middle of the range has. All in all it's one of the safest sub-compact vehicles available based on IHTS ratings.

    This 3rd gen Soul is a lot like my 04 mk4 gti in soo many ways... X-line fail, GT line on point. To me, the x-line is just a styling exercise, nothing more and a regular Soul is a better way to go. The GT line does it better in every way (except the CVT) and is how I'd spec a Soul! if it came w/3 pedals. On that point, Hyundai/KIA have 3 other cars with this engine that do have 3 pedals; however, I wouldn't b getting the funky Soul styling.

To keep comparing this Soul to a Civic, a car I am knowledgable of, and have zero interest in, and - even more absurdly - a Civic Type R, is utter silliness in a review said to be of the Soul X-Line (as is the repeated comparison to the nearly-$30k GT-Turbo).
