I do not build any more because I have too many rods now to last me until..... I only do repairs now and the wrapper I have works well enough. With that said, if it was many years ago I would invest in a better wrapper than I have now. If you find a way to go back in time please let me know. Lots of great information here, thanks Captain Lee.
I have the ALPS with the upgraded chuck and love it. The big difference I see between the two is motor placement. The ALPS motor is on the side, and CRB has it under the chuck, giving you more length of track to work over. I went with the ALPS because of a friend's recommendation, and it was on sale for 50% off. If I were to buy another one, I think I would try the Gen 2 for the extra room and the degrees engraved on the chuck.
Great video. Do you ever have an issue with the CRB roller stands and the wheels not turning? Mine stick and they are leaving marks on the rod blanks from rubbing on them.
Hi Capt. Lee. Few questions for you. With the Gen 2, can you elevate the chuck? I assume you can to match the different heights attainable with the CRB roller stands? I like the idea of being able to give myself more room under the blank. I'm torn between buying Alps for the chuck and then customizing with CRB roller stands & adapter down the line... or else going with the G2. I have been under the impression that the chuck carried the most importance. Is there a big difference between the upgraded Alps chuck & the G2 chuck? Thanks for the informative videos!
The chuck height is fixed on the G2, but I suppose you could shim it. The G2 chuck is similar to the upgraded Alps. I would lean towards the G2 if I buy another one.
Would love to see a video of how the G2 works. Specifically how to adjust the rod holders and how you have the thread carriage on there and how you are wrapping with it. I have not been able to find any videos on how the G2 works. Thank you!
Does the chuck on on the gen 1 pro wrapper stay chucked on the rod good? I had a poor man's one I made added on to my hand wrapping rig. I don't build enough to spend big buck. I can get a gen 1 pro wrapper for 100 bucks just to add on to my hand wrapping station from time to time when I need to do under wrapps to save alone of time.
They are both great machines, but I use the crb Gen 2 most of the time now. If you're going to build a hundred rods in the future, then spend the extra money. If not, go with the Alps.
@@fdxcustomrods thanks! Yeah I currently do 4/5 rods a month but plan on doing far more in the future. Don’t get me wrong a hand wrapper works well for some jobs but for others it’s not the most time efficient.
Ive been using my new CRB pro Gen 2 about a week now. There's definitely a learning curve from hand to power. Everythings been good so far. Theres a couple things that could be improved though. No slip clutch (not a big deal), it is not very smooth at low speeds. The digital read out is useless. To get the head spinning you have to have the speed cranked way up and then try to slow it down quickly.
@@fdxcustomrods I called them when I first got it. They said that was normal. They said ignore the digital read out as it would not match what the direction say and that it needs to be turned up then slowed down.
Awesome review, thanks! Have been looking at the two you have.
Thanks for watching Scott.
@fdxcustomrods quick question. What finish are you using? I'm looking to move away from Prokote. Thanks again.
I receive my CRB pro a few weeks ago. Haven’t really put it to the test yet. I’ll keep you updated.
Thanks Steven, I would like to hear you're opinion.

Thanks G. We need to get on Toho together now that you finally have some water....
Thanks for your work putting this video together. Since this video is about a year old, has your opinion changed around the crb pro g2?
I love the G2 since I did the pedal upgrade. I will do a review.
Flex coat power wrapper i love it.
I've never had my hand on one. What do you like about it?
fwd & rev 46 to 420 rmp awesome foot pedal and made in the USA.

You will use that Alps for many years.

They are probably too tight. You can take them apart and oil the bearings with reel oil. Don't overtighten when you re install.

Putting it on the list
Putting itnon the list.
Thank you!!
What is a setup for 7' to 14' rods?
Either would work fine. You will need to buy track extensions to get to your desired length.
Hello, I can’t for the life of me find the video where you talk about the foot pedal upgrade. What model did you buy please?
YC-50N

It was fine. I didn't like the pedal, but I'm doing a video on how to fix that. Plus, it didn't have the dryer motor built in.
I might build 4 or 5 a year. What could I get that is good and would last for years at a good price?
I've had one of my Alps with an upgraded chuck for over 15 years and still use it.
How many crb pro stands would you recommend for a 9ft rod I have 3 but seems a little wobbly would 4 do it or will I need more
I have 5 on my track to handle up to 8 ft rods. You can do it with less. You will just have to move the stands around a bit more.
I’m so torn between the alps and the rbs. The rbs is about £100 more where I’m based.

I don't have that problem with mine. You should call Mudhole. I also wrap in my socks. I don't get good pedal control in shoes.
