The water is diverted to a powerhouse downstream through a tunnel that runs through the mountainside on the north side of the dam. They didn't used to release all of that water down the river. Up until about 30 years ago, it was almost entirely diverted to the powerhouse. (There also used to be a powerhouse on Rock Creek a couple of miles downstream from where you crossed it, and there are some nice falls just a couple hundred feet below where you crossed the creek.) My mother grew up in a house on the northside of the dam. The trail runs right by the foundation of the house, and it used to use a little bridge that my grandfather built over a seasonal stream above the house.
Love your vlog. Loved this section. I think the bugs are especially bad this year after all that wet stuff and snow we had in California. Happy Trails, happy hiking...sending good vibes.
Have enjoyed watching your trip since you first began posting your days on the PCT You’ve got many long miles of hot, sunny days ahead of you before you finish. Why not get a sunbrella and not have to fight the heat & sun so hard? Especially during the afternoons?
Very pretty section! Not as scary as the Sierra. I've done alot of solo backpacking and listened to many books on Audible when I got bored, tired, or too hot. It helped a lot. Don't think I've ever seen you use headphones. Do you ever listened to books or music? Just curious! Thanks for sharing your journey! Happy trails.
LOL, Mr. Safety 😂 the rules just don't apply to some people 🙄 Nothing worse than mosquitoes ruining a beautiful campsite by making you dive into the tent! I hope the shade at least helped you keep cool.

Beautiful falls and love that Dam. Those mosquitos will just hunt you down. Loving the vlogs.
If that was the same Firefly, you met a PCT icon! A wonderful trail angel up there for decades. Stayed at their place for a night back in '08.
YES! I recognized her from the video. A true angel legend. Stayed at their house in “07”. You Codgers were recipients of divine trail magic.
Great video

I thought you were to hook back up with Hazel?
I see Hazel in the video of the falls with "Mr. Safety".
