As a fellow codger I have really been enjoying your videos. I will be doing a 100 mile section of the JMT in a couple of weeks and am really drawing inspiration from y'all. I thru hiked the AT in 03 and live in Hiawassee so hopefully I will run into y'all some time.
Since your videos are about 8 days behind the real life, that smoke/haze is probably from the Flat Fire in the southern Oregon Coast range. I hope you enjoyed Ashland and some of the other civilization opportunities like Shelter Cove up here in my neck of the woods along Odell Lake (since you are probably already past here by now). It would have been cool to meet up with you at Shelter Cove and buy you some pizza and beverages. I'm living an unrealized dream watching you folks hiking the PCT...Happy Trails and stay safe...
Congrats on making it to OR. Less than 1000 miles is great. You will want to sprint through Oregon with all the mosquitos once you get to the Lake District which is most of the PCT. The lava beds will slow you down a bit cuz it’s ankle turning rock. Bring lots of water. Hoping the Bedrock fire doesn’t close any of the trail for you. It’s getting into fire season in Oregon and WA
That cabin is really cool. I could live there like Grizzly Adams. I could change my dog's name from Cindy-Lou to Ben. She'd be confused for a little while, but she's clever, she'll figure it out 😊
24 mile day and less than 1000 to Canada! Doing great! I always enjoy seeing your campsite for the night. Town day coming up! Take care. Happy Trails! It's July 29th today, so you're probably a lot farther along.
Congratulations on passing the Oregon/California border. By now you guys must be nearly 1/2 way through Oregon! Wherever the trail has led -- Be safe; keep at it!
Bedrock fire 8100 acres east of eugene is why its so hazy. Been hazy all week here in Central Oregon. I can usually see mnt hood, mnt jefferson, three finger jack,3 sisters, mnt washington from the house not now.
@@chrisbentleywalkingandrambling shouldnt have any problems other than air quality. Ive hiked in way worse conditions. Between the wild fires and farmers burning their hay fields i would rather be up there in the mnts hiking.
@@chrisbentleywalkingandrambling It is - at least for now - quite a few miles west of the PCT. It isn't growing at wild out-of-control rates, so I'm guessing it won't be a problem for them
@wildphiljohnson5336 glad to hear. I remember it was bad for the PCT hikers last year, too. Thanks for getting back to me. I'm a bit out of the loop being the other side of the pond.
Coming from someone who hasn't been on hikes over 3 days in length, this is of a personal nature and I understand if you don't want to answer it: after you're done "taking care of business" do you discretely dispose of it in place, or do you carry it out? Also, have you had to deal with blisters, allergies, cuts, etc. on the trail, and how do you handle those?
you dig a hole, do your business, cover up the hole, then stick a stick in it so others won't dig in the same spot. (at least that's what goes on while hiking the AT. I think it's the same process on the PCT. Others want to comment? ...ms rumbles.
It's funny as soon as you get out of California the blow Downs are very little it's like the pot holes and the c***** roads here in California. As soon as you leave the state the roads get better.
Watch out for the Ducks in Oregon….CONGRATULATIONS 👏👏👏
Oregon is beautiful.. keep pushing and happy trails
Congrats on a 100 days and you all earned your town day. Enjoy.

Thank you
Excellent viewing as always, from sunny late Saturday afternoon 29 July Wellington, Noo Zeeland.
A lot of the hikers I am following are in the same area. I have seen cabin about 3 times this week. Kinda funny. I think, “oh there is the cabin!”
Wow!! Congrats u 3 ! Huge accomplishment, Oregon will be a breeze compared to Sierras
The Haze is even here at the beach, humidity is 90 % And I believe that's what's causing the haze
Beautiful sunrise! Think y’all need to start doing a town day dance. Let us see how excited you are to go to town. 😊
Just watched your Day 1 again...long time ago
I like Hazel's hat.
Here we go 🚶♂️
Congrats on knocking out CA. Interesting see what Oregon. Nice views. I wonder if that Canada fires smoke. 👍👍
Hazel is the best❤

Does that affect the trail at all, do you know? I hope Hazel and the Old Codgers get through safely.
