    Very nicely done sir!
    People don't realize how much knowledge you need to do this type of job. Many people just think 'oh, truck driver', and don't appreciate the years of learning that goes into handling this type of freight.
    Keep on truckin'!

    I grew up in the Niagara Falls area but live in Western Canada now. Can't believe some of the streets you have to drive with that unit. I'm used to all the over size routes we have in Alberta.

      @@Frankman232 Sorry to dispute your inaccurate statement but being in heavy haul (up to 188 wheels) for decades I've never had issues stopping without the use of a retarder (engine or trans), even running the Rockies from AB to BC. Naturally retarders save brake wear but back in the day they were a luxury item on a rig. A truck that can't stop without a "Jake" is a truck with a driver exceeding his abilities and should probably, for public safety, stick to four wheels🙏.

All scientific stuff, which I totally enjoy, and looking at the read out. Not many truckers explain any of this. I follow a half dozen or so truckers, and only one person explains things, which is Sherralin (Lorry Diaries) on her site. She does many trips out of England and around Europe, usually France, Spain and Portugal, and she does some explanations as well. The USS Constellation is the last sail-only warship designed and built by the United States Navy. It has a museum gallery and is good for kids.
    Yes, the USS Constellation is located in Baltimore, Maryland's Inner Harbor at Pier 1. It's the only remaining ship from the Civil War era and is now a National Historic Landmark. The ship was built in 1854 and decommissioned in 1955 after 100 years of service. It's now preserved as a museum ship with four decks to explore. The ship offers regular guided tours, including a cannon firing every day, and visitors can participate in demonstrations

      @stuartatkins5425....technically we have lots of freeways (& toll-roads) too, but the infrastructure (read: bridges, overpasses) are in pitiful state and Doug's combo could well be the last nail in the coffin while crossing some of these structures (that was always my fear when operating delivery self-propelled mobile cranes).
      That said, the traffic -ensity is also far greater on the East Coast then in the West, that's why P\permit-routings are usually mandated off the beaten track.

He does a terrific job of explaining what he does to load the CAT 395 excavator, secure it, and skillfully take the load safely to its destination. Being a heavy-haul driver is definitely a specialized job, and this driver definitely does his job in the most professional manner. Hats off to you! My many thanks for posting this video.

    As long everyone is on the same page on how you getting their, what lanes is needed and what the situation is for the travel. Then keep at it it as long the drive is safe for everyone on the road traveling and less stop and go. But for sure that is a big Cat on the low loader trailer.

    My compliments again, Doug, for another outstanding video with top editing.
    Your explanations at the truck stop while waiting for the NYSP escort, were very interesting.
    Question: upon entering that T/S, when you needed to raise the trailer, doesn't that activity pull the trailer back (the reverse of what happens when drivers drop the air on a van-trailer after docking, it pushes the trailer-box forward). The real question is: do you leave the tractor-brake off when raising the trailer, so the tractor moves backwards during the process? (the energy for raising the trailer has got to go somewhere).
    Also, when you suggested - just prior to entering the Rest Area/Weigh Station near Kanona/NY - to have all your paperwork ready for such inspections, you named among other things the Permits. Maybe you should also remind drivers to ensure that the Permits are signed and all auxiliary forms (usually to be downloaded from the State's website) are in fact present with each permit. (I can't stop re-iterating the "signing part" to all my drivers).

    • @luckybananaheavyhaul3407
      @luckybananaheavyhaul3407  8 місяців тому

      Yes you are correct about signing for the states and provinces which require signatures. NY used to require but not any more.
      I have the habit of only using the tractor parking brake and leaving the trailer released. That being said when working on uneven ground or on a slope all the brakes should be set. The truck alone may not be enough to hold 200,000 lbs from rolling on a slope

  • @jaquigreenlees

    Douglas, the NY troopers also got to see you handling the oversize with the run before the inspection so they had evidence you are not an accident looking for a place to happen, making the inspection much more positive even before you had the paperwork ready for them at the start.
    Would the weight from the Cat scales being included with the logs / paperwork have been a positive for the inspectors? I know they would still have done their weighing.

    • @andrep8287
      @andrep8287 8 місяців тому

      @jaquigreenlees....the CAT-scale ticket certainly doesn't hurt as it shows to the officers that Doug did verify the weight of his combo to compare with the weight that his employer's permit-logistics department had "fed to the State permit agencies"".
      That being said, the beauty of the CAT-Scales Group is that they guarantee that overall-weight and the axle-weights are correct (provided the driver fuels before scaling), so that if an enforcement agency felt the need to cite the driver for "overweight" on the total weight, or on certain axle-groups, the driver could contact CAT-Scale and they would assist with the defense of said citation.

    • @ahonetwoonesixthree2314
      @ahonetwoonesixthree2314 8 місяців тому

      CAT Scale has no guarantee on split-weigh....whole truck has to be on the pad, 1 weigh to be guaranteed

      @@ahonetwoonesixthree2314 but it would still be a known quality data source that Douglas has at least tried to keep his weights per axle within permit limits. ( Well within limits truly but ya gotta take the soft pedal / sell if ya want to fight a fine in court. )
