- Simply one of the most beautiful songs the bro and sis ever recorded. They don't have talent like this anymore. Every voice you hear is either Karen or Richard's. Please comment, this song is just too beautiful, I had to share.
This was recorded for Music, Music, Music but wasn't fully released until 2004 in the album As Time Goes By.
She was one of the purest singers of all time. No gimmicks. She just sang the song simply and with perfect pitch. Great talent!
I can´t imagine my life or the world without a Carpenters´ song...
So true!
This was way before my time, but you can't deny good music, regardless of when it was made. That melody and harmony at the beginning is pure heaven. I'm sure Brian Wilson gets jealous when he hears this.
It's great when I hear Karen and Richard sing together!
This is music for the soul. I have loved the Carpenters from their beginning and always will. There will never be another voice like Karen's.
I was a teenager doring the 80´s, and the first time I listened to them singing on the radio I could not believe my ears. At the time, without internet I thought I was the only one who like them, becouse nobody seemed to know them in Spain!. Thank god, nowadays they are back to where they belonged as singers and performers. Up there at the very top. Thanks for posting
Karen's Voice just reaches into your soul and grabs it. Their voices together ARE just WOW!! Talent beyond talent.. So thankful they had the opportunity to record and share their gift with us all. Thank YOU Karen and Richard for the music...
harmony was their trademark .I think that is what made them unique back in the day. no one will ever duplicate ii
that .I just loved ťhat sound, and also the overdub tracks they added .
Absolutly stunning...amazing...breathtaking talent..Back before auto tune....back when you actually had to sing on key...there was this magic...this shining bastion of real honest to goodness TALLENT.
Listen to this track and then realize, when it was recorded there was no autotune to make you perfectly in key....they were just perfectly in key naturally.....THIS is real talent
This is real music, top notch indeed !
At a time when there was not autotune or Melodyne..
Carpenters: Forever in my life, forever in my heart...
Great acapella never grows old....
real tallent....NO autotune..top top humanity had to offer at that time....BRAVO
LOVE IT ♥♥♥ EVERYTHING THE CARPENTERS SING IS ALWAYS GREAT
This was the opening to the last time we ever saw or heard Richard & Karen. -------Spring, 1981-------------------WolfSky9, 73 y/o
This is great! I love the a capella part. I added it to my favorites.
THANKS FOR SHEARING THIS. YOU ARE SO RIGHT IT IS BEAUTIFUL. . EVERYTHING THEY SANG WAS BEAUTIFUL.
Carpenters, I like all his music. They are excellent musicians.
Real music, still.
i added it to my favourite too. it's really great. how i wish karen carpenter sings still in this 21st century. i love her voice very much but too bad im not born in the 50s, 60s or the 70s.
thanks for sharing this. thanks a lot!
Both Karen and Richard are magnificent. By the way, Karen is unbearably gorgeous in the photos presented in the video.
Para las nuevas generaciones rescaten estas baladas verdaderamente musicales no las dejen abandonadas en el tiempo conserven los valores reales de la música como tal es
One of the greatest ever seen.
SUPER PRECIOUS !
What a stunning vocal arrangement.
This fantastic arrangement was assisted by the legendary Gene Puerling , of The Singers Unlimited. He worked with Richard on this multi-voice arrangement, as he was so successful with " The Singers", using this technique. . -- When I saw the '80 special, I was shocked at how Karen looked; her weight loss & the sadness in her eyes just overwhelmed me , & the show was, for me, hard to watch or enjoy. That said, this " afterpiece" is simply too beautiful for words, & serves as always, as a sad reminder of what we lost, when Karen died, far too young, & needlessly. ------------------Wolfsky9, 70 y/o
This chokes me up, it's so gorgeous, & it's such a shame that we lost an Angel among us far-----far!-------too soon. ---------------------------WolfSky9
I just heard about this song from Carpenters and that it is a tribute to the Singers Unlimited. Being a long time fan I had to hear it. They did a wonderful job. It is a fitting and beautiful tribute and hearing it, I don't doubt that it was intended as such. Thank you for posting it. Now if you haven't heard the Singers Unlimited or the Hi-Los for that matter, do yourself a big favor and go listen. You won't be sorry, I assure you. The only one with all the overdubs. You'll love it more now.
Gracias por rescatar esta belleza de joya musical esto si es verdadera música es una maravilla realmente esa voz de Karen Carpenter digna de imitarse
This song was used for their final TV special "Music Music Music", and John Davidson and Ella joined in for the TV version. I believe the special aired in 1980.
Karen has a wonderful voice, but so too did Richard as heard in this song, he has a nice tenor/baritone voice and it really stands out in this song. Simply wonderful!
What a great user name - I just watched "What's Up Doc" about a week ago for the umpteenth time!
the blending is perfect :) This is great :)
Beautiful song 💕😭
Qué grande Carpenters!! En esta versión hacen entre los dos un grupo vocal de la gran p..a.¡¡Qué maestros!!
@bbrickell1
That's because this is actually the version that was put on the CD " As Time Goes By". Which is the only place I know of that it was completed (I could be wrong though). On this special, it was only used in the Intro, I believe. And the Ella medley parts were later. BTW, I really do recommended getting that CD. Richard included some unreleased materials at the end, and also cleaned some older ones up.
Classic harmony, arranged by Gene Peurling, of The Singers Unlimited !
if this does not bring tears---------nothing ever will.------------Arranged by Gene Puerling ----------A Masterpiece. -----------We'll not hear the likes of this, ever again. -------------------WolfSky9
In the original TV show Music, Music, Music when this aired in 1980 (1981?) Karen was joined by John Davidson. If you listen closely, I believe it is his voice near the end of the clip - not Richard's. Ella Fitzgerald also sang in this song on the show, but is not included in this clip for some reason.
On the TV show, it was indeed John Davidson and Ella Fitzgerald. But if you read the liner notes of the "As Time Goes By" CD, after doing the TV special, Karen and Richard, because they loved the song, at their own expense, re-recorded the song using the same orchestration as the TV show, with THEIR OWN VOCALS, doing the solo parts after the a capella bit.
They remind me of the Singers Unlimited. Worth checking. Maybe the same arranger??
I beg to differ. If you listen carefully, there is a very deep male voice in the background. Unless I'm mistaken, Richard can't go that low.
Yes he can. He's a studio master and can equalize his voice to get a deep rich bass sound. He sings that same low note, with the same equalization effect on the word "down" when singing the sublime "Top of the World." You can easily recognize his singing on any track, it's him, no mistaking it.
lol i am a girl and i can
@@1asset Come over.
interesting. wonder if they did it “swingles singers” style?
Oh, I think richardhanna0 has kind of a point. Sometimes the Carpenters have layered on their delicious vocals at the expense of the melody and chord progression. One example I can think of is Trying to Get the Feeling Again, which The Carpenters did wonderfully, but the instrumentation wasn't quite on the level of Barry Manilow's version. Of course vocally, Barry can't compare with Karen. It's a trade-off.
I meant karencarpenterfan could make her own video, since she had so many "helpful" littl suggestions.
Perhaps you could make your own video
Richardhanna0. How can you criticize Karen and Richard Carpenter. You wish you could make music like this. You wish you had their popularity and guess what else...... their money. Even after Karen's death, they are still critically acclaimed, and world class. So don't even try to say you're sorry. You wake up sorry.
Great !!! But I think Sinatra version is better ...
You Are Not Very Well Trained In Music Obviously!
Which version: 1941 or 1961?
this song is ruined because of the original lyrics
" A Man is Born " used to be " A Darkie's borrn " and now hear the original
"That field of corn, would never see a plow
That field of corn, would be deserted now
A Darkie's born, but he's no good no how
Without a song"
Weird they both look like Kevin Bacon
harmony was their trademark .I think that is what made them unique back in the day. no one will ever duplicate ii
that .I just loved ťhat sound, and also the overdub tracks they added .
There were many things that made them unique, with the harmony being foremost, of course. There was Karen's voice, Richard's voice, the duet call and response, the California mystique, the use of orchestra, the oboe, the harp,, the lush strings, romantic songs, the astoundingly ambitious recordings, the blending of classical styles with pop, their wholesome image and presentation coming in on the heels of the summer of love , the drugs, the free love, the rebellion, many, say, scores of millions, of people appreciated that after hearing so many vulgar acts. They were unique in many ways.
